VLC completely freezes the Ubuntu OS dead if the mouse cursor hovers above the progress bar for even a microsecond.
Is there a good media player that can do all those VLC things like variable speed playback and playlists?

Use strace to see what's going on and/or install smplayer.
smplayer sucks
For you.
Step 1: get rid of ubuntu
Step 2: install fedora, million times more stable, updates much smoother
Step 3: use mplayer. Playlists should be a shell script.
mpv
it's broken in Ubuntu
>install fedora
Fedora uses Wayland by default and has the worst installer in history.
Kys.
???
Kys
Fedora sucks too.
this
literally breaks shit in the efi/grub space
I still haven't figured out how to fix it, other installers can't wipe it
>youbun2
mpv
does it even have a gui?
kaffeine works but it doesn't have a speed selector
is there a working alternative with a speed selector?
At this point people will point at you and laugh.
I wont because a media played in 2017 that doesnt have a gui is just retarded.
reset your bios with reset switch or battery takeout
>had the same problem
mpv
For playlists, but file paths or URLs in a .m3u file and open it in mpv.
It has playback info in the player itself. No need to launch it without a file playing.
mpv
mpv
I disagree.
Would rather chase down menus than search configuration files
t. brainlet in denial
mpv people always resort to calling names.
I don't know why that is.
MPV for video, Clementine for music
>Clementine for music
Did you mean cmus?
>he fell for linux meme
Gnome-mpv has basic gui controls and keyboard shortcut page so you dont need to touch any configs
I would rather do neither which is why I use MPV.
Linux is a kernel.
Exactly, they want a media player for it

This.

I don't like Fedora myself.
>Step 3: use mplayer. Playlists should be a shell script.
He can use ranger also but yes, mplayer rocks.
>mplayer rocks.
can you easily tell it to play at 1.5x speed?
...
kek
something like that, but the whole system freezes, can't get another terminal to kill it or anything
The only thing that works at all is Kaffeine but it's a piece of shit that can't change speed.
2017 Linux is a mess.
MPV is the gui for ffplay, user.
Never done it myself but yeah.
