I have an SSD thats duct taped to the inside of my case. I bought a mounting bracket but i never got around to actually installing it.

The front pannel of my case doesn't work. Everything is connected correctly but the audio pins crash my computer when anything is plugged in.

My usb wifi adapter occasionally crashes my PC, but atm im on ethernet so its all good?

I used to have a NVidia GPU but I have an AMD one now. It used to BSOD randomly until I ended up uninstalling the old NVidia drivers.

I migrated my main HDD to an SSD but i havent gotten around to deleting the old OS off the HDD. Should i just reformat it?

Im still using the stock cooler for my CPU. 2 of the mounting pins diagonal from each other are broken.

Trying to learn Linux C++ to expand my job opportunities. Being doing C++ and C# on Windows desktops and servers for years. So far, working my way around the OS isn't so bad. Growing up on DOS means working a command isn't terrible. Doing any kind of software development on it feels wonky as shit.

I occasionally have a mental lapse where I refer to GNU plus Linux as simply "Linux".

I lurk on Sup Forums but I can't program, can't touch type, couldn't assemble a computer with a gun put to my head. No experience in anything really technical, closest I've come is installing Ubuntu on my laptop

I'm in physics grad school, and I don't know if I really want to go on. I studied physics in undergrad partly because of parental pressure, but in hindsight would rather have studied CS.

I keep finding myself procrastinating from physics in order to program. But I'm 25 and I probably have too much sunk costs to go back and do another undergrad degree. I managed to publish some papers in undergrad and I'm sitting at a bit over 30 citations, some of them from famous people. I'm doing terribly in my courses right now though, because I frankly stopped caring.

Research is fun because you get to tinker with ideas, and I'm sitting on a few really powerful mathematical methods that nobody else has access to, which gives me a huge advantage because it allows me to easily find correct results, though communicating them to others takes more work. Classes and teaching feel like an endless grind and I can never seem to catch up to everything I need to do.

I don't know what to do when the professor I TA for figures out that I'm only halfway done grading all the assignments for the entire semester. Afaik, he's supervising 20-something TA's and seems to be too overworked for nay kind of micromanagement. I have a stack of two hundred ungraded lab reports. The students still seem to like me for some reason I frankly can't understand, and some of the female ones have asked me what classes I'll TA the next semester.

I don't care. I'm not even sure if I want to keep living. I just maintain a facade of apparent cheerfulness in order to not alarm others. I have easy access to Helium. What should I do?

Part of the reason I shill Jai so hard is because I've never felt a connection to a language outside of it, but I know I'm going to be forced to use C++ once I get a job

I hate C++ because I can't ever get shit done in it as fast as I can in other languages like Java and Python.

A bit of everything. With a >60-70 hour workweek there's not much that I can get done, so my projects tend to stay fairly small.

Anything from implementing my own data structures and coming up with my own efficient algorithms to do operations on them. I've also written compilers as a hobby.

The languages I use tend to not necessarily be the most widely used though. My favourites are Rust/Haskell/Julia and Mathematica.

I recently dropped my Libreboot T400 and it needs a new screen. I don't want to go without a laptop for a week or two while the new display ships so I went to my local computer shop and the cheapest ThinkPad they had for sale was an X201 for $150 that has 6GB of RAM and a 120GB SSD, so I got it. But it has an Intel i5 with the Botnet Engine and a non-free BIOS and wireless card. So I installed Coreboot with SeaBIOS and I used ME Cleaner to strip down the Intel ME firmware as much as possible, and added a wireless card with FOSS firmware. But instead of installing GNU+Linux I decided to try out Windows 10 LTSB. I wiped it off and installed Debian after only a couple of hours but I still feel so filthy, like the streets of India. It was dark and the UI had lots of sharp corners and blinding whites. The start menu was slow and there were two control panels. The loading screens for the setup were scary and somewhat threatening, telling me that it's almost done and not to turn off the computer. I'm so sorry.

Kind of funny how normies think touch-typing is a computer nerd thing. It's more of a "office worker who types 100 emails a day" thing. Not that a lot of us (myself included), can't do varying degrees of touch typing, but programming really fucks up your touch-typing stance and can mess with your English WPM with all its special characters and hotkey commands. Right now without even thinking about it I have my left hand on Shift, E, F, and G and my right hand on J, I, O, and +/=

If you don't mind learning finance, you can combine your physics studies with programming and become a "quantitative analyst/engineer." They're still popular and pays well if you can get in with a right company.
