Why searx isn't popular on Sup Forums? It's an actually privacy-oriented (meta)search engine, any user can run their own instance of searx. Why shilling ddg and sp when this beautiful open source project exists?
Searx.me
Other urls found in this thread:
startpage.com
github.com
searx.info
twitter.com
its a good search engine, i approve
I use it, but how is running your own instance a good thing? Then anything your search for will run through your own connection anyway, which defeats the purpose.
results are not as good as duckduckgo or startpage.
Running your own instance doesn't mean you absolutely have to use it, main purpose is decentralizing. Other users can use your instance, you can use instances of other people.
If you use startpage, you basically use google results. Same thing can be done through searx if you choose google as the only source for your searches, You also can use both ddg and sp through searx.
This, or you could use a server and even make it public for other people. I did this with a $2.50 server from Vultr but Google blocked my IP now I just use one of the other public instances because the main searx.me instance is too slow.
or i could just use startpage or duckduckgo. stop pushing your obscure shit on us; this thing reeks of NSA honeypot
Maybe because YaCy exists. But the thing is most people don't want to run search engines, they just want google or something almost as good that makes them feel like they got more privacy (which may or may not end up being the case).
I don't like searx. It's too slow and the search results are not so good.
I use DDG for regular searches and searx for images only.
> NSA honeypot
Why do they need a honeypot? They probably have their data taps on the fat internet lines most to all your traffic goes through.
Chill out brainlet, i'm not pushing anything on you. I'm pretty sure an open source project which you can fork is NSA honeypot and DDG (which uses amazon servers) is not :^)
to defeat end to end encryption
nsa loves anything node based.
How is this different than startpage?
Its slow new Python. YaCy isn't perfect either, but much better.
But you don't have to run your own instance of searx in order to use it for searching. Why even compare it to yacy?
It's free as in freedom.
You don't have to for yacy either. Its a web interface, you can search on any reachable instance. Use your friend's if you prefer.
AFAIK nobody currently hosts one with an internet's worth of search traffic, but that somewhat tends to happen when you don't want to figure out how to deal with the cost and load.
It's slow as balls.
Every fucking time i try to use other search engine i always think that i could get better/more/more accurate information if i search in google.
You can use google through searx.me, user. What's the problem?
Try one of the Searx instances: github.com
Is there any search engine that supports filtering by topics/tags? I'm tired of looking for some obscure windows structures and getting results like grandpas asking what the THREAD_TERMINATE_HELD_MUTEX means on their BSOD on yahoo answers, or something like that.
I still think you can't compare YaCy to searx. I guess Seeks was pretty similar to YaCy but it's dead.
Searx features tabs to search within specific domains including IT-related stuff. In this case it searches through arch linux wiki, gitlub, github, bitbucket etc.
what's a good instance for it?
searx.info
thanks mate
run it on spare servers put it up on the list. let other cunts use it
or share it with your family and friends and use it yourself & say you've never used it when the narks ask
>someone starts a simple discussion thread about a free (as in freedom), decentralized search engine that respects your privacy
>WAHHH YOU'RE PUSHING THINGS ON ME! GO AWAY!
Why are you even on Sup Forums?
