Why would I want a tiny screen on an ESP8266

So basically it's just a cheap arduino clone? With builtin wifi and LED? It's definitely a good deal, but it still won't be good for anything besides IoT or "wearables" cancer

Apart from the actual useful bespoke automation projects you ignorant tumblbaby

>xe doesn't see the utility of this

Leave Sup Forums forever

Pretty neat

still too much

>automation
You mean "IoT cancer"

Apart from a good price, this has no additional utility over current hardware.

CAN EASY CONNECT
1. PS/2 KEYBOARD AN MOUSE - FREE
2. SD CARD READER AND REALTIME CLOCK - $2 FOR BOTH

On an ESP32, maybe

ESP8266's have been around for a while.

Still wouldn't want that. Especially not when it doubles the cost of the module alone.

Will this run a headless GNU/Linux distro?

No

No, but it will run a Lua or Python interpreter.

it's not retina

computer my ass its just a microcontroller

Ah, more like a domotica sensor/actuator, then.

...

Which is useful as fuck

What's a computer?

Name one useful thing where you can use that. And please no some pajeet IoT "learn code" DIY tutorial cancer.

IT CAN RUN TINYBASIC FOR ONBOARD DEVELOPMENT WITH KEYBOARD AND MOUSE!

>some pajeet IoT "learn code" DIY tutorial cancer.
Well fuck I wanted to get one to but on my refrigerator to show how many times I open it a day but I ques I won't then

>$15 - $30
You plebs complain to fucking much. Be greatful for these prices. You should all be transported to live in the era of $3000 20gb HDDs just to get a clear sense of how luckey you faggots are.

> how many times I open it a day
Literally who cares?
Programming that is just such a waste of time.

>8266
>Not 32
>Computer
>Fucking 2017
Please

Well I could also but it on my door and get the time when it opens so I would see when I came from partying.

Gotta admit, that's pretty cool

ordered small oled screen for muh development board, didn't know they were that cheap.

And what then?
How is this necessary?
>Oh, I cam home yesterday at 3am
and? Why would you care about that?
Its so useless...

Can I install Ubuntu on it?

no

>$15 - $30
An ESP8266 module is like $3 fuck you

Why the fuck should we spoonfeed you an alternative application other then the exact ones it is designed for?

this.

It's a fucking microcontroller with a wifi chip.

not, it wifi chip with microcontroller

No, it's an OLED display with wifi and a microcontroller.

Wrong its a PCB with a wifi-chip, a microcontroller and an OLED display.

>op discovered esp8266 3 years after its release
>$6
kek, that shit is less than 2 buck
>muh oled
get bent

I want to play Skyrim on it.

>Shipping: $2.06
>Delivery: 60 days

There could be a lot of implementation of this in industrial machines.

Is the screen text only or can I use bitmaps?

I always wanted to try an deauthentication attack with one of these. And from what I remember it is quite easy. Might buy some cheap chink electonics next month.

But does it respect my freedom?

$3 if you get one of the boards with a wifi antenna, serial to usb adapter and 5v to 3v3 transformer, like $2 without all that

Can this run mpv and decode video?

they work for the mercenary

No pwm, no analogue and only 3v3 out. Kinda fucking lame desu

no professional industry solution would use something like this.

esp32 has it all. Not even counting the IDF yet.

What's the cheapest, smallest thing that will?

name usefull shit you can do with it

meh, RISCshit. I want an affordable, single board x86.

you can do with a whiteboard marker tied to a shoelace

Nice, the cheapo 4$ arduino nanos from china on amazon are pretty great right now anyway. Wifi is dope tho.

RPI zero? $5 at my local store.

>on-time delivery
>60 days

Better, it reinspects them, actively.

Get the fuck out of here, Hou Lee

Can you attach a tiny screen like that to RPI?

It's like an iPad pro.

Fuck'n retarted

What's a good use for this?

>NOW WE HAVE
We've had them for over 5 years now.

He named one and you proceeded to bitch about it's usefulness. The device is seemingly more useful than your existence.

And I'm sure Bethesda wants to charge you for a new special edition Skyrim "micro edition" for it.

>charge you

eat a dick, faggot

but does the software work?
There are tons of boards that are cheap but their wifi shit doesn't even work. look at orange pi. the wifi adapter on the zero model LITERALLY DOESN'T WORK cuz there's no fucking linux driver for the piece of shit. and that is a way better board for the same price.

Small server for home automation.
Running displays without a full computer.

>too retarded to come up with his own ideas
there's your problem kiddo

Make one. GNU/Linux is open source kid

>orange pi zero
dont have display

>xe
I know you're ironic, but please fuck off. Fuck right off.

and...? nobody had a complaint with gnu/linux, dumbass
the hardware isn't open source.

Drivers are software. As long as the WiFi module is wired correctly to the microcontroller, which it is, it is your fault if you cant get it to work

Single 4 wire SPI ssa1306 Oled is 2 bucks. Nodemcu esp32s is 5. SD card reader and RTC is 1 each.

Bluetooth keyboard for input.

Yes, you can. But the RPi uses a lot more energy.

Right now, if you want a capable microcontroller, get the esp32, 1 low energy core, 2 high speed cores, freertos, arduino ide support, idf ide, micropython, lua, BLE, BT 4.2, wifi b g n and 4mb rom.

Enough to blow any Arduino board out of orbit.

Armbian says that the wifi adapter has issues, but doesn't say that it completely doesn't work.

Drivers are here.

Feel free to grow up and learn to code.

BUY MY GAME

So I could make my diary entries more accurate.

>ESP32 DEVKIT V1
is this one fine? i kinda want an ethernet port though

Just bitbang ethernet m8.

id just use this one if i had to do that

HanSan ethernet module costs 2 bucks and can be attached easily. But it costs energy mate.

NodeMCU ESP32s os good, get it at Ebay or Aliexpress. Avoid the Mini, it has a port and charging for a 3.7v lio cell, but doesn't expose all GPIOs.

Wemos Lolin32 is what you want if you need lio cell charging and port AND all GPIOs.

dis 1 good? pic related

Wouldn't, it's a lot of effort on the code side. Saw the code where one did SCSI with a RPi3. T'was the day mi eyes developed cancer. Much effort. MUCH!

Nope, get a NodeMCU ESP32. Yours will not leave exposed pins left and right when connected to a breadboard. It will be a pain. Also the NodeMCU has a LED on pin 2 or so, which you can use for simple status (on if ethernet is on or something).

which one is the real nodemcu esp32? i have no idea there are so many copies
also what do you mean by exposed pins?

wait did you actually meant the board is too wide and will cover all the holes? because this particular one doesnt cover the whole breadboard

The one which has NodeMCU printed on its belly. There are no clones.

I stand corrected.

the one that leave two holes exposed on both sides?

One row is enough tho. I just have good experience with the NodeMCU boards, they are fully documented and open.

Well, buy whatever i guess.

i was about to buy it and see its like 20 usd

this one is 9 usd

wew that will keep your fat arse in check

>implying arduino boards have any form of originality
not a fucking arduino clone you numbnut
if you literally cant comprehend the purpose of a single board device capable of using wifi as a client and a server witha core clock of 160 mhz, you should just leave g

but does it play doom

yes

Wifi enabled keyboard with a small screen for showing the active layer?

Can it output 1080p?

Can it run game emulators?
