Windows Tablets!! ^_^

Which do you have ?

Was it worth it , how much $?

What do you use it for?

Should I get one?

What's so difficult about using punctuation correctly?

I have a surface pro 3 and I fucking hate it. I paid far too much money for it (live in shit tech country). You see everyone use these at university, but they are very bad.

here's my problems with it:
- terrible thermals
- screen is too small
- rarely use the pen
- cant open firefox without the fan coming on
- everytime I used onenote the pen input is slow and continues to have shit thermals

I didn't even get the base model either. Don't buy one of these.

>bought surface pro
>barely use the pen
why even get one then you retard

iPad Pro better

What's a computer?

My iPad Pro is indispensable at my university desu, the Apple Pencil makes my Japanese and Chinese classes a breeze ^_^

It's no worse than most laptops from it's era. You would have hated a laptop just as much. I know I do.

I have a Surface Pro 5 and I like it a lot. The only thing I don't like about it is the battery life which could be better and that it's a bit slow being that it's the Core M base model. But overall it's stylish and the build quality is very pleasing.

>Apple Pencil
Bend over and insert into rectum.

Microsoft tries to break into the tablet market about every 8 years. Each attempt is more tragic and expensive than the previous.

Dell XPS 13
isn't really a tablet but has 8 threads and a touch screen.

Archos 95 Cesium (have fun finding it)
Pretty good, for the use I wanted it, better thermal and build quality from some chinese (Onda) alternatives.

Downside: I fucked up the BIOS and it's in a bricked state.. I really should get around fixing it.

Recently picked up the Surface Pro 5, i5 8GB RAM. Use it for drawing, love it so far.

Android Yoga Book.

Wacom Tablet.
2048 levels of pressure.
100 degrees of tilt.
Can do inking.
15 hour battery that's removable.
Can charge with a usb cable.
Shit keyboard, but accepts BT or USB ones and uses Swype just fine.
360 degree hinge.
Weights 1.5lbs and is super thin.
1080p ips screen that looks real nice but is small at 10 inches with a huge fuckin bezzle.
Can output 4K and be used as a stand-alone wacom with a real desktop pc.
Paid under $300 new.

It's pretty cool, but not really a good full-on laptop replacement.

Bought a Samsung Tab Pro S for the OLED meme + Windows combination @ 550 bucks. Mostly used it for multimedia viewing and light gaming in order to take advantage of oled.
Decided that the oled was worth it, but couldnt stand the underpowered hardware, so I sold it and bought an oled laptop with better hardware.

Bought one of these for a friend that sits and takes notes on their tablet at the University.
I was thinking of one for myself for android apps and media is this my answer?

this

I have linux on the one I use for work, but that makes it neither windows nor a tablet, and thus unsuited for this thread.

Sounds like a good gift for a mom who likes art but generally uses computer just for playing music and browsing the web.
What's the linux support on it? Lenovo is usually good with that.

I have a Chuwi Hi13 that docks into a keyboard magnetically so I usually use it as a laptop.

I like it, but it IS a device of compromises. It only has a Celeron N3450, 64GB memory, 4GB RAM and an intel HD 500 so it has trouble trying to power it's 3000x2000 screen sometimes, so you need to down res it for some things, like drawing with the pen in Krita or playing emulators/some indie games with 3D rendering. And the clicking on the keyboard touch pad isn't too responsive, (excellent keys on the keyboard though), some touch gestures also have to be disabled because they get annoying (minimising and the notification panel ones in particular)

Sometimes I have to down res for even 2D stuff like Downwell. Hearthstone works fine at 3k though. It's sort of weird. I think it entirely depends on how well optimised a game is. Helps me get some use out of my old GOG library at least.

Then again, you know, it only cost me £300 for the whole lot (tablet + keyboard + pen). A third of the cost of the entry level surface book so it really doesn't bother me. I'll just wait those few seconds while it loads a 4K netflix video or a high res youtube video. Once it's going it's going good and that screen looks beautiful.

But if you aren't a tinkerer or you want something consistently smooth I wouldn't recommend getting it.

Worth buying?

or alternatives?

Depends on what you want to use it for. The Eve just got released, which is ~$200 cheaper, comes with the type cover and pen, but is less powerful and the pen is not as good. If you want to do art stuff, get the Surface, but do know you'll have to buy the pen separately.

Lenovo Miix 310
£150
Not too shabby, better than an iPad.

I like mine, but Im running Manjaro Gnome on it.
Touchscreen gnome is comfy

The price is impressive.
But is CPU and RAM lagging behind equivalent surface pro?

Are there any fucking reasonable spec 10-13 inch form factor tablets out yet that have better than a god damn intel 520 integrated gpu, even a a 620 is a big jump but ive seen no 8th gen intels in the smaller non 2-1s yet.

I literally just want something A4 sized that can actually play xbox 360 / ps3 era pc releases on medium/high at 720p.

I mean jesus fucking christ something sub $700 dollars should be able to max shit like skyrim/fallout3/bioshock at 720p.

Samsung Galaxybook the smaller 10.! or whatever it is.
Only issue was the 64GB of space e-mmc

I like it. It does what it's supposed to: let me draw things, take notes, look busy when I'm standing around playing games that accept touch input.

Only issue is the stand is really fucking weak (it's part of the keyboard cover and not built in). But you can modify it with a bit of word or something to kepe it up right.

Cost I think 600 euro and well worth it consider this is Ireland where tech gets at least a 15% increase since "technology" on price versus any other place

Yeah there seems to be a lack of middle range tablets that can run games like pillars of eternity at 1080p, or stuff like diablo 3 at 1080p.

The atoms will run stuff like torchlight, but struggle to run stuff like skrim or fallout 3 and new vegas at 720/1080p med/max 30fps.

Cheaer 10-13 inch tablets with an intel hd620 would be great.

Not sure if troll attempt. But it's got a better drawing slate on it than an iPad Pro or the newest Surface. It's really nice for someone that likes to sketch throughout the day or take notes at school. Would be really nice if they made a 12-15 inch version of it.

As it is though it's a nice tablet/laptop/netbook/drawingpad/digital inker

As for linux, I know the windows version can live boot Ubuntu, but I've never tried my android as I have no need. I've got plenty of other tablets and laptops for that.

New Vegas works pretty well on my GPD Win with its z8700 atom for what its worth.
Still better to game stream from a main with these low end devices anyway.

I cant really complain about my Chuwi when I can get like 6 hours of battery life on it reading manga.

I got a surface rt for free in july 2013. I still use it while in bed and on the throne.

I have an SP4 and it's awful. Was riddled with software and firmware bugs for months. It's mostly sorted now but I just hate using it. I have a thinkpad T450s and it is almost perfect. Just wish it had 15 hour battery life.

Hard to answer that really. I like mine, but you have to keep in mind its computing power is about on par with a tablet equipped with a snapdragon 810, maybe a little stronger but not much.

Not sure what kind of updates the system is going to get in the future though so buyer beware.

I was genuinely interested. My mom would love having a tablet she could draw on, I'd just install Krita and years down the road when windows becomes unfeasible blob to run on such device I'd drop some *buntu or mint and keep going.
Currently she's using crappy Pico W3 clone with 1GB ram and baytrail atom and some retarded UEFI. Browsing web is frustrating. I bought it because I though "hurr x86 processor, linux should handle that". Fortunately with ubuntu 17.10 it detects wireless card and battery, but it seems like there's a lot of work to be done to allow linux to function on it.

Acer W4-821. Only good for playing VN. windows apps for touchscreen isnt good enough.
recently switched to iPad 2017

keep in mind while you can draw on the screen it doesn't use wacom tech, only anypen tech which is trash. So, if she wants something where she can draw directly on the screen the iPad Pro with that pencil is probably best bet. Or get something older by samsung that uses the S pen

> (OP)
>What's so difficult about using punctuation correctly?

whats so difficult to understand that most people dont give a flying fuck? (not even OP).
for someone trying to sound like captain obvious u sure lack imagination

My dad has a Surface Pro 3, it's pretty great although a bit on the heavy side. But it's fairly fast.

I just like my X220 better. Sure the SP3 has a much better resolution and screen and all that but hey.

op if you want a tablet just get a two in one you will get better hardware and it will double as a laptop, you also get bigger screens. If you want it for drawing or want a good pen make sure you get one with a wacom digitiser

I got a new thinkpad yoga 460 pre owned for £670 with an i7 and 8gb of ram

Have a surface pro (2017) now and love it. In fact, extremely happy with it. I used have a surface pro 4 and had one problem after another.

My biggest issue is with the price fucking MS did by not only making the type cover a separate purchase, but also the pen this time. What, the, fuck.

it used to come included, you mental retard

You fucked up, you should have bought an iPad instead.

pen input is a major point of the tablet
he's not even utilizing the form factor so he shouldn't have bought one
