This thread is for the discussion of the language, culture, travel, daily life, etc. of Japan. Let's tark at random in Japanese and Engrish. Take it easy!
I'm not back home yet, finished clearing out the house today and will probably be back in Leeds on Monday
Will ask Qihan then. But I'm not too optimistic desu if she doesn't have a bf then she's probably going back to China if her visa ends.
I'm still considering asking one of my friends who's also her friend for her wechat
Xavier Bell
Give her some mititei niga

What does that even mean
Cooper Ross
"Kuril islands belong Japanese territory!"
Connor Sullivan
You should not call people sluts, that's pretty mean, user. That being said, people often like to have sex with foreigners in general because they're cute.
The F does not currently possess any noble title pertaining to sexual orientation.
James Wright
Seems like it's about Kuriln islands belonging to Japanese territory.

Robert Turner
I'm afraid Russian qts are at a premium due to their beauty. It's a seller's market.
You may need to throw a little more into the bargain, nihonjin. Maybe give them Hokkaido too.
Ayden Allen
Could also always go for Ukrainian qts.
Gavin Baker
are you a NEET?
Daniel Thomas
Ukrainian qts are similar to Russian qts, but may show more symptoms of PTSD.
No, I go to college (2 of them actually).
Andrew Taylor
>college
Sixth form or university colleges?
Kevin Gomez

Jason Phillips
Neither. I've already been through both of those. Now I'm in an adult college.

How is that different from a university college? I thought a college was just a less prestigious university, so I don't really see how you can go beyond that.
Hudson Bennett
In the UK, college is what you do between the ages of 16 and 18, and university is what you do after that. Americans have different terminology, but I don't understand what it is exactly.
Adults and kids go to separate colleges though. Adult ones are usually for people who've failed in life and go back to learn specific skills for a certain jobs instead of normal college stuff. I go to one that teaches about railway repair and maintenance.
Gavin Gomez
Huh, didn't know that. In America, when you turn 17/18 you go to college to get an associate's degree or a certificate, while in a 4 year college or a university you can get your BA/MA. The adult college you're describing is called a professional college.
Joseph Martinez
Yeah, I've always been a bit confused with how Americans use college/university more or less interchangeably. In the UK, college is synonymous with sixth form, but is an entirely separate thing from university.
I always get confused when Americans talk about "middle school" too, since that doesn't exist here and I always forget what ages that refers to, even though I must have googled it like 10 times now.
Juan Barnes
University is pretty much only used to refer to the schools themselves, not the concept. For that we use college.
Carson Lopez
Really? I used them interchangeably because I thought they were the same thing.
Sebastian Reed
College is for BA University is for BA MA PHD. At least from what I understand.
Jose Jenkins
So it was mostly a terminology thing then. Thanks for explaining it to me.
Also, why did you choose to do railway related things now? Any particular interests regarding things like that?
Thomas Morgan
People go to universities for BAs too.
If a school is has "university" in its name it is seen as more legit. If it doesn't it's seen like low class college.
There is a school in my city that uses the word university and people scoff at its usage because they think it's barely a step above community college.
Brandon Butler
>Also, why did you choose to do railway related things now? Any particular interests regarding things like that? Don't know what else to do with my life and I heard it pays better than working in a supermarket. (´・ω・`)
Also, it was free, and I can't afford more debt from going back to university for another degree.
Leo Roberts
What's your first degree?
David Bennett
English Literature.
On an unrelated note, we do not bully people in this thread for their choice of degree subject.
Camden Johnson
>Mfw English Literature too >Mfw also East Asian Studies I mean it was incredibly fun and interesting
Robert Cruz
English Lit sounds like a good choice of degree if you want to teach English though, which you seem to do.
East Asian Studies makes me think twice about leaving my children alone with you unsupervised though.
Blake Myers
I should have studied English. I have a economics degree, but it is worthless at all.
It's a good degree if you're not living in an English native speaking country. Then you can at least do stuff with it. Still, nothing very profitable. Everyone and their grandma can speak English nowadays and you don't need to quote Milton to get a job.
I wouldn't leave children with me unsupervised either. I would probably be bullied for being a loser, so I'd need an adult-ier adult myself.
Bentley Nelson
I just started EE. Apparently I'm pretty fucked because everyone says shit's hard as fuck.
Oliver Ortiz
Is a teaching degree worth anything if you want to teach in Japan?
Jonathan Howard
>Still, nothing very profitable. Not in terms of money maybe, but some things are worth more than that.
Like the smiles on tiny children's faces when they can finally speak to their friends who don't know how to speak Hebrew.
Charles Taylor
No.
Daniel Nguyen
I don't have any degree at all and I'd say I got my money's worth from it.
BM ripoff and Ladybeard just left the group. They are smalltime in Japan.
Josiah Perry
Yes. But only English as a foreign language is worth anything I think. So like, TEFL and all of those. Then you can avoid all the shitty JET programs and ALT bullshit. Is such a certificate worth anything for when you'll want to go back home? Probably not.
If they don't know how to speak with little Jew John by the time they're in high school I don't think they have much hope (´・ω・`)
Anthony Edwards
ここは外人の多いインターネッツですね
Evan Martin
>If they don't know how to speak with little Jew John by the time they're in high school I don't think they have much hope (´・ω・`) How did you learn to speak English? Did you spend lots of time on the internet growing up? Does speaking English now feel almost the same as speaking Hebrew?
Landon Bailey
It's new style, exotic and catchy It's cool.
Daniel Green
Hi. Godmorning there.
Caleb Perry
Could a fluent Japanese speaker explain to me the uses of the の particle, other than as a possessive. I'd be very thankful if you could
Brody Thompson
Ohayo gozaimasu, nihonjin. Nihonjinsuredo ni youkoso.
I've known English since I can remember myself, since I've lived in an American town. My English is much better than my Hebrew due to that, which is sad. (´・ω・`)
You already have the degree? Were you taught how to teach foreign learners? That's what they're looking for, which is why I mentioned TEFL.
Kevin Allen
Oyasuminasai gozaimasu, user.
Caleb Garcia
I already have the master's degree in teaching yes, but I don't have the ELL certification, which sounds like our equivalent to TEFL. I teach lots of mexican kids that are learning english though
Levi Murphy
>since I've lived in an American town Like literally in America, or an Americanized Israeli town?
Not bad
Aiden Ramirez
are you allowed to enter the white zones of your country?
Liam James
>restarted laptop and battery power is no longer showing up on the notification bar even though it's shown to be toggled on
wat do
Austin Russell
That could work. Should start looking around now. September-November are when they're starting to look for people. Go for certified teacher positions and avoid ALT.
>Americanized Israeli town This.
Jayden Perry
Americanized Israel town?
Landon Bell
>I've known English since I can remember myself, since I've lived in an American town. >My English is much better than my Hebrew due to that, which is sad. (´・ω・`) That's a bit strange, but at least you'll be able to teach tiny children English from more or less a native's perspective.
Connor Johnson
Like a roppingi in here?
Jonathan Green
>Go for certified teacher positions Can you actually do that without high level Japanese and Japanese teaching license? Or you mean something else than a school teacher?
>My English is much better than my Hebrew due to that, which is sad. I'm in a similar situation except with Swedish. Ever since I was a kid I was fascinated with the English language. I got my own computer at around age 10 and taught myself English grammar by just listening to and talking to native English speakers. Though because both Swedish and English are Germanic languages I guess it isn't that impressive. My Swedish sucks these days. I probably don't even have half the vocabulary of someone who's native (I am, don't get me wrong) and didn't basically drop their language completely for a decade.
Isaiah Ramirez
This is so strange. It would be like me learning Spanish fluently and then having bad English.
Jose Scott
More or less, hopefully!
Pretty sure most of them do at least require N2, but the license doesn't have to be from Japan. The better places will require TEFL.
We are on the same boat then friend (´・ω・`)
Henry Sullivan
Look now for positions this autumn or next autumn?
Isaiah Young
I don't know about the japanese language part, but I know that both a teaching license and degree from the US is valid in Japan given that it's not some mickey mouse university, but that rarely happens as the government itself hands out the licenses
