>be american >everyone automatically assumes I'm an idiot
I met this girl in college who had an accent, so I asked her where she was from and she told me Lebanon and proceeded to tell me what geographic area Lebanon is in as if I didn't already know where it was. Why?
Where does this geography meme come from? Just like everyone else, I can name every country that's not in sub-saharan africa
Samuel Richardson
Most Americans don't even know where America is senpai

Well, thats your century america, you know? They will always make stereotypes and jokes about the powerful. Around 2000 - 2006 no one gave a shit about my country and now everyone is suddenly an expert about Germany. Fuck the haters
Nolan Jones
They actually just came out with the new tallest countries ranks and interviewed a Dutch expert about it on BBC. While Dutch men are still the tallest, Latvian women are now taller than Dutch women and the men are only barely behind Dutch men. He believes Dutch height has nearly reached its zenith at what he considers the maximum average height for a nation. Soon many other nations will start to catch up in his opinion.

>Where does this geography meme come from? Because it's true. Once, I had to explain to some grown ass man the difference between a country and a continent.

m8 i thought canada was a state until i was 14. There is nothing to be ashamed about. We are not cucks and don't care about irrelevent countries here in the USA.

This is true. Having experienced education in Ireland, Canada and the US they're almost the same, and the US/Canada is identical. Rather than being stupid (impossible for any wealthy country, intelligence is required for complex economies and dominance), it's arrogance of being an Empire Many countries have inferiority complexes, and some like the US have superiority complexes. Both are messed up things, inferiority complexes result in a feeling of being wronged, needing to prove yourself to the power establishment, and an obsession with power. Superiority complexes result in narcissism, a belief that power is something you've always deserved, a disdain for the weak, intentionally mocking/ignoring weaker powers.
The US is going through the same phase other world-leaders went through. In Ancient Greece they thought they were the pinnacle of the world, the term "Barbarian" meant foreigner, a mockery of the language of non-Greeks. They had this same superiority complex and disdain for the foreign and weak.
Then Rome starts taking over. According to a nice set of writings, as Greece was in decline it developed an inferiority complex of sorts to Rome. Rome was based heavily on Western Hellenic colonial culture especially in the south in Magna Graecia. The upper classes of Rome spoke Greek, their gods were taken from them. The fading Greeks decried the Romans as uncultured (yes, sound familiar?) because their culture was not exotic to them, brash, bastardizing Greek culture. The Romans were fond of loud parades, arrogance, global bullying, and had "usurped" the Zeus-given inherent superiority of Greeks to rule over humans.
In a funny way, "we" look back at Rome as a sort of cultured pinnacle of European civilization, with all the arches, columns, myths, emperors and colliseums. What was once new, crude and bastardized to the old Greeks is now ancient and classy in retrospect.
Britain went through a similar bout of ignorance and arrogance at its peak.
