The official reason was that it was more expensive to renovate it.

C'mon this shit doesn't even happen here, buildings like this often go to shit, but we never destroy them, lately there's even a boom in renovating, and I can tell you that for many buildings it'd have been cheaper to demolish

Not really. The church has been in a disastrous state for decades and was prone to collapse in the long term anyway. Since it was only a secondary shitty Neogothic church built int the 1860s no one even visited they decided to rather spend 350.000 € on demolishing it to built a park in that low class neighbourhood rather than use over 4 million they didn't have anyway to renovate a random building nobody cared about.
