How can we make linux look less autistic/nerd-only Sup Forums? i am not memeing here.

nah

Linux should honestly be difficult to use, it keeps braindead normalfags out

i am not talking about the nature of linux but about the image, the marketing. with that, we can convert the normalfags.

>look
Do you mean the "brand" that if you know Linux you are a nerd, or do you mean it looks like hard to use space station control board? Because it doesn't, Ubuntu and Mint look more easy on the eyes than Windows ever did.

more on the brand side. i am aware that linux is as easy as windows and way more secure.

B-but if normies started using it then I wouldn’t be special for using it ÒwÓ

once a "normie" starts to like Linux, they are no longer normies! think about it.

>the "brand" that if you know Linux you are a nerd

Is there really such a brand? AFAIK most normies won't even know what "a linux" even is

why would we want to? Windows and Mac go way out of their way to be user-friendly no-sharp-corners things that take care of everything automatically for you and have the latest aesthetic approved by whatever graphic designers are popular these days. And that shit absolutely infuriates me and avoiding it is a large part of the reason I use Linux.

Remove Netflix
Faggots will pirate and require a media server at home

probably only millennials. my parents think i will become a good computer scientist because i use Linux and some teachers in my lifetime are aware of tux the penguin.

i can't believe it is real. Well the grill being actually a sexy slut who knows our guy anyways

That probably requires some hardware that is memorable and affordable which comes with Linux. Like let's say a goofy looking children's laptop that has a body that looks like a penguin, people can buy them as the kid's first laptop and it comes with Linux which they accidentally familiarize themselves with on the side. Or the other end, some very high class laptop that looks premium and is premium and only comes with Linux but it's so perfect that it gets the attention of reviewers. If all the laptops just look pretty identical to a normie they will get the one that doesn't look new and scary.

I hate canonical with my guts, but they seem to be the only guys that can pull that of.

Also, is the react os project ever succeeds, Linux is going to look more and more tempting to the public since it is free as gratis with almost the same compatibility of programs as Windows..

what do you even want to it look like?

my issue with linux is the shitty root folders, especially home and etc

The easiest way to fix that would be having a file manager that gives a description of that directory's purpose when you mouseover it. I just came up with it just now and I can't believe it's not there already.

that's not what i mean, there are more than 10 different download folders which is in etc and home

also software gets thrown into million different folders in different directories... why can't it just be one folder per software in /etc/?

Get rid of the penguin

I agree with this post.
>Hi
>Were setting things up
>Something happened :(

first we have to have a logo that is not edgy (arch) or not professional (void). We could make a realistic penguin since tux is the main mascot and penguins are something that the public can feel something to identify with.

Second name. it shouldn't sound random like Debian or fucking Ubuntu. we should make it tux related like Antarctic or Penguin or Tuxedo.

Third system. if we could combine the convenience of cinnamon with the power of kde it should be alright. The package manager should appear in front of the user each time he downloads a distro-compatible package. the package should be capable of saying in layman's terms what kind of issues he is having with the package.

4th marketing. Use the money of canonical to air on tv our product and say that the software download is free and disk versions are at 10 bucks or something.

Make a normal-looking GUI and DE. And sell DE with GUI to normies with some warranty (that covers only GUI).

ReactOS =/ Linux

i heard Wine could benefit greatly from the project.

And yeah, include Wine in this distro. And hope, that it will support EVERYTHING.
In fact, ReactOS is Wine running on NT kernel...

exactly, if it succeeds, wine could become the greatest threat of MS since the phone market. Just imagine.

>1. Make it pretty.
Mac OS X is pretty, but it is still difficult-to-use Unix-like OS. So, If we will make normally looking and intuitive GUI (at least from normies perspective). In fact, none of current DEs are user-friendly. Gnome - just strange, XFCE - requires a little bit of knowledge, and looks like 00's, LXDE - requires even more and looks like 98's, KDE - do not ask, I don't like it.
Test it on granny or mother, who uses PC only for internet and some office.
>2. Wine included.
For some people it is difficult to install wine. (Yes, there are people, who can't use Google, in order to find instructions, how to add repo and apt-get install wine-devel). So, it should come pre-installed in distro, so your granny can run her favorite odd-ware without learning something new.
>3. Driver support.
No console, it should have all drivers (even non-open-source) out from box.
It should work on Mac, HP, Dell, Acer, Lenovo, Chinkpad, Thinkpad, Packard Bell without any issues.
And all printers should be installed without command-line stuff.
>4. Make software companies compile their stuff for Linux.
At this point I don't know how can we achieve it, but I think we can pay Adobe, Microsoft (lol), Autodesk (lol) so they can compile their soft for home use in order to get more profit from Linux nerds, and average user of this Linux distro.
>5. Warranty and support.
System should be free (and open as much as it possible), but support is paid. Like RedHat (and Fedora), but for your mom.
>6. Android
Yes, Android is good example, how they managed to make it pretty. And yes, it is not first linux-based OS for phones.

the only issues is to convince gamers. Steam did their deed, now we have to hope that wine can emulate direct X11 -12 with the help of the react project.

Wine emulates DX11 bad.
I tried to start BeamNG on Wine 3.0-2rc on Intel HD5000 (lol), it failed.

So, the only method - pay game-companies, so they will compile a game for this distro.
And improve Wine.

well it can run doom 2016. so i have hopes for the wine team.

It really depend on game. But still, Wine is cool, it can run GTA:SA with performance similar to Windows... Or Visual Novels, until it uses japs cryptographic symbols in file names (and maybe it is possible to fix it somehow, but I do not know how).
By the way, gamers are not #1 priority.
If this distro will be very popular (between moms, grannys, console gamers, offices), than gamedevs would have to compile their hindi programs for Linux.
Also I forgot about one cool feature of Linux: not that much viruses* and always enabled 'UAC' aka 'sudo'.

>depends
sorry, I'm ESL.

>tfw father's work has over 200 T420s and X220s in storage that theyre just getting rid of
>tfw I can have all of them
>for free

That should be a main point: no need for those obnoxious antivirus since there is no virus in linux!

The other problem i find is the software store. most of them are buggy and people prefer to use the wizards they find on the browser-pages.

be careful what you ask for

it's a porn convention fyi

i3?

and he just decided to place gnu on a column? He wanted to talk about freedom there?

>That should be a main point: no need for those obnoxious antivirus since there is no virus in linux!
It shouldn't be mentioned as #1 thing, because more users - more viruses. Android is good example.
So, it some small feature in the bottom of the list, close to 'mostly open-source*'
>The other problem i find is the software store. most of them are buggy and people prefer to use the wizards they find on the browser-pages.
We can include console packet manager (let's say from Debian-stable), but for users we have to make packet manager with stable stuff, with ability to buy stuff, as in Mac. And it would be one non-open source thing in OS. And it is an option, you can remove it during installation.
Lol, nice DE, where to download?

to

No matter how hard you try there will never be a Win9x DE that actually feels like the original, even if its pixel perfect just for the fact it's not Windows 95/98

>DX11
They should already upgrade to Vulkan anyway.

> How can we make Windows do anything remotely as efficient as Linux?
> how can Windows be half as reliable as Linux
> how can we teach Windows admins what logs are, how to do more than click shit and know their ass from a hole in the ground

How can we OP?

Em... We can winapi on linux

Solus and Budgie looks great, is easy to use, and has more of a cool factor than Ubuntu.

easy this should have been done ages all major distros need animu mascots all over the place would be fucking awesome

It's a shoop

Android and ChromeOS are Linux for normies.

I would rather it continue to compete on function than on... look. Mainly because that would put the emphasis on the DEs which are somewhat user hostile atm.

Videogaymes.
