it's Linux's creator's birthday today!
Happy Birthday Linus Torvalds!
What distro will you be installing/using today?
You're not going to be using Windows today, are you?

Happy birthday! I'll be using Ubuntu and Android. Not for the rest of the day, no

well im using arch with deepin desktop environment though that might change if i find any broken english in it i canceled the install of the distro for this reason

Happy Cake Linus!
I will be using Void Linux as always, thank you for everything Linus!

how is the install for this lately? last time i tried it it failed to install grub and i couldnt figure out why

What panel do you use?

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

can you take you autism elsewhere?

thank you

Who the fuck is that guy? Is this some sort of meme?

kek

here im running arch

It's really easy but you need to know how partitions and filesystems works. Personally I chose the ext4 filesytem for everything and a single mount point ' / '. As for grub i just chose the disk i wanted to use and it installed it automatically then i told my bios to use this disk during boot to load my grub.
Polybar, here are my dotfiles : github.com/Smatchcube/Rice

How much of a pain is it?

>deepin myass
enjoy your botnet

its simple i use arch because i find it easy to use and do the things i want

is there something wrong with deepin? im not attached to it yet wouldnt mind changing

>some finngoloid autismo shares your birthday

Linux is just a kernel. It's not equivalent to a full OS like Windows.

happy birthday, retarded botnet-user

>You're not going to be using Windows today, are you?
well, i have to, for work and gayms
What distro will you be installing/using today?
Manjaro
happy birthday user

>is there something wrong with deepin?
Look at your RAM usage, it's bloated as fuck.
You should be under 400mb of RAM used by the DE otherwise your DE is bloated.

well i would use i3 but the last time i used it i remember it being a nightmare and one thing i hate about deepin is it kills alt dragging completely

xubuntu
no wangblows today

Well you can still use deepin if you don't mind the bloat but you can try to use others DE such as xfce, gnome, kde or openbox for minimalism. Can you tell me your RAM usage with only deepin running?

Whatever I use, it won't be Ubuntu. Linux Torvalds said it is too difficult to install, so I figure if he can't figure it out, there is no way I will.

Late to the party as usual, but happy birthday Linus!

Hi, Linus! It appears I did not receive an invitation to your birthday party, perhaps because you used a proprietary way of sending me it? Anyway, I know it is your birthday and all but let us not forget that Linux would not have been possible without the GNU Project and that therefore we should not just celebrate you today but also me. Now, where is that cake? I am starving! By the way, do not forget to give me the recipe before I start eating because I refuse to eat nonfree cake!

i never looked i just started looking up the commands for i3 instead and i am making progress so ill stick with i3 i think

I'm actually going back to Windows 10 LTSB so I can play ROBLOX :^)

why not dualboot?

I have a 75 gb hdd
that's not an option

Paljon onnea Linus
Happy birthday Linus

so buy a 500 gb one for 40 bucks they are cheap as hell

Solus, the best distro ever made :p

hey quick question how did you disable the titlebars in i3?

When will Linus fix the Linux filepicker?

>can't into actual package managment

what's there to fix?

hi kevin

this

What coincidence, today I have to format a PC and install Linux Mint on it.

That's Sam Hyde

Pleasant birthday, retard.

>all these nVidias ITT
So is the "nvidia on Linux is shit" thing just a meme? I'm tired waiting for AMD to sort their shit up.

Suck dick much?

Only if you use old kernels.

Happy birthday Linus!
I'm currently using ubuntu 17.10 (not using windows long time ago!).
It's not quite stable and from time to time some glitches appear. Thinking to install openSUSE, what do you Sup Forums think? Should I install tumbleweed or Leap?
rolling release (stable?) or stable?

Its shit if I use old kernels or a meme if I use old kernels? I always run the latest stable.

nVidia only reliably releases kms drivers for LTS kernels.
Right now 4.14 (which is also the latest stable) has support, but 4.15, 4.16, 4.17, etc won't. until the next LTS kernel release (probably 4.18)

If you're happy to hang out on LTS kernels and miss any gallium3D stuff, go nVidia.
If not, go AMD.

Personally, I'm using an RX460.

Well fuck those niggers goddammit

Gentoo Linux ps fuck torvalds

Happy Birthday Torvalds
today, I'm doing a fresh install of my server on debian

it's got me thinking, what the actual difference is if I picked centos instead of debian
I'd probably have less docs/guides than with debian / ubuntu
probably a couple weird issues due to my environment with the os
I'd have to use yum instead of apt
at some point I'd get pissed off that I couldn't get figlet or toilet easily, and god knows I'm not going to bother compiling it

anybody got anything else?

sut on tunnistettu

why cant we have nice thing today?

Imagine this notebook with new core m, ssd and 1080p screen

MUHHHH DICK

The packages would be even older

I'm running iOS which is basically the modern successor to linux which is now antiquated.

why does unetbootin never fucking work
anything important's gonna get patched

for_window [class=".*"] border pixel 2

I bought 8GB of RAM and I'll be damned if I cant use it all

Unused RAM is wasted RAM

You too m8? That makes 3 of us, I suppose. Happy birthday, family.

If on Windows use Rufus

If on linux use etcher

STOP STEALING ALL THE CREDIT

If you are not a child you will need your RAM for real shit to do, not for slow animations.

>netbook chinkware
Live in shame

Don't worry user. I still have 7 GB to work with after booting deepin

What laptop is he holding?

Happy Birthday Linus
I'm using Antix Linux right now and I haven't used Windows in a while tbqh

haven't heard of etcher, I'll check it out, thanks
ended up reinstalling multisystem, and I'm back in love

since I'm posting again, why do people get such boners for fresh packages?
is it just general security / handling new features?

Yeah, etcher took me a while to find. The link is etcher.io. It's open source, comes in an .AppImage file, it is electron (the only thing I hate), and it actually works unlike unetbootin.

Sony Vaio C1 picturebook

...

> Sony
It would be so overpriced and shit that it's better that Sony has ceased its activities.

huawei and xiaomy would copy it

i'll always feel like an idiot for ever falling for this bait

But Linux is old and obsolete. Windows is a lot more productive than the unintuitive shit that is linux.

DOES ANYONE KNOWS WHAT DISTRIBUTION MISTER LINUS IS USING NOW? RUMORS HAS THAT HE'S NOT USING FEDORA ANYMORE!
(SORRY Sup ForumsUYS, I'M NOT SHOUTING, MY CAPS LOCK IS LOCKED ON MY LINUX MACHINE AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT)

what's wrong with it? (ignoring the long list of things wrong with gnome)

not everyone pushes out worthless office """"work"""

meanwhile, server, embedded and anything that matters runs GNU/Linux, friend

gentwo
the only viable option left

I'm using Xbuntu.

use ctrl+w to unlock caps lock you dumb nut

mkdir ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/chrome/
nano ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/chrome/userChrome.css
@namespace url("mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* set default namespace to XUL */
/* Hide Horizontal TAB Bar */
#TabsToolbar {
visibility: collapse !important;
}
/* Hide White Header Tab Tree */
#sidebar-header {
display: none;
}

Then you just add back the search bar, right click customize, hide all the other stuff

Happy birthday torvalds! Using debian right now... You know how to install it now right?

No, of course not! I'll be using the clean, refined, simple, effective, UNIX Based Operating System : OSX.

underrated

I use CentOS every day of my life

Wow, Linus looked like a fucking dork in his younger years. He's looking a lot better with the modern look in his newer videos.

I'm using Ubuntu 17.10, and I need to reinstall windows, but I'll do it when I'm not a lazy fuck.

You should fuck then

I'm going to try and install arch and get it running. I'm a bit of a linux newfag, so it might give me some trouble

someone get the toejam cake for mr stallman

linux is literally shit,
it doesn't even support old hardware
There is literally no recent distro that supports a 7 year old laptop GPU drivers
Fuck you
Fuck this fucking circle-jerk shit.

It's a fucking radeon 4570 mobile GPU and it is not """"compatible"""" with the official drivers because newer kernel and wayland etc. and I have to stick with the shitty open source drivers??/

fuck this fucking shit, windows 10 supports old hardware just fucking fine.

use bsd

I don't understand 90s fashion.

In 30 years people will think your photos from the 2010s will be lolz. I guarantee it.

Anyway, using Debian here. Love you, Linus/x.
