Win7 is fairly fleshed out in terms of security and whatnot and will be perfectly secure after 2020 aswell. EOL is basically just end of official M$ product support, and no one but illiterate pajeets uses that anyways, there will be plenty of inofficial win7 help boards around still.
Even fucking XP received the wannacry security fix earlier this year from M$ despite long being past EOL, with Win7 it will be no different due to its huge market share.
Just keep your MSE/third party security solutions up to date and you will be fine

lack of productivity software and mediocre hardware support are legit things to bitch at. GNU/Linux is a very good OS if you use it for stuff like what OP mentioned. Now try editing video, images, recording/mastering/composing audio, simulating and analyzing logic circuits, writing flash memory, or just fucking setting minor printing options to properly print a multipage PDF. You can all do these things, but it's a nightmare, and takes at least twice as long time than doing it in Windows, especially if you're doing it for the first time. Likely there will never be a time when I won't have to dual boot because one OS can't do what the other one can.
Microsoft is a terrible company that needs to die. I hope they continue to make their products less user friendly and make more idiotic UI changes to further run people off their platform. I hope they wreck windows so bad that businesses port all their apps to linux or even OSX.

I abandoned W10 when, even after a fresh install, shutting down takes about 30 seconds as opposed to W7 that is almost instant.
Also W7 is much more snappy when navigating, so w10 can suck a dick

I'll stick with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 cause it just works. Even after the 2020 cutoff it'll still work fine just keep your antivirus software up to date. Whenever the last MS security rollup comes out, just download it for offline safe keeping as well as other security rollups in case you need to do a clean install or want to make a slipstream install iso image. If you use MSE it'll get updates for eternity (or however long Win Ten is around) thanks to the fact MSE is baked in Win Ten and the core of it is same as standalone download versions

Yeah. Thank god all my programs are all "legacy" ones that don't require that shit in order to use them. The garbage that is MS office anymore is just fucking sad. Half the program is online based yet the other half takes up well over 1GB. Yet I can get the same functionality (close to it) or better from MS works 4.5a a program that doesn't use online services and is totally unified with templates that is only 100 meg full install. Just saying. I use office 2007 professional. Yes it's old, but it works and I got my copy for free back in the day (got it from work, some IT dumb ass left the install files + key on a public network share)

the last time MS did really major, focused GUI testing was Windows 95, and even then big chunks were just lifted from Apple's System 7 (but I will say that 95's interface is a lot nicer to use)

NT4 didn't get the quite as much user interface testing 95 did and was just "get the new UI working on the NT kernel and slap together some things for the NT-specific bits"
98 was "lol make everything like webpages" but didn't fuck things up too much
2000 tried to make NT4's UI more like 98's.
XP tried to soften up 2000's UI for the home market (didn't need much, and I liked the Luna theme at the time, still kinda do).
Vista just gave everything a glassy sheen, and didn't fuck things up too much worse.
7 insisted on pushing the fucking awful ribbon (no really, it's a UI nightmare, on all levels) but was basically otherwise unchanged from Vista
and then they entirely stopped giving the slightest shit with 8 onwards with its awful basically non-native fullscreen shit
10 is a joke and shoved those into "windows" like if anyone fucking wanted them and all the actually useful settings are in the dialogs that haven't been touched since Win7.

As office program i still have MS-Office 97 and a 2002 Version. The 2002 version with a lot of plug ins and stuff. Picture viewer is ACDsee 3.1 from ... god knows how old. It's lightweigt, snappy fast and does all the work perfectly it has to do. Like sorting pictures renaming them in batches and shit.
Use Winamp as a media player (free version), have all my music stored locally as well as all my TV series and movies i am watching with VLC but consider changing or trying out mpv at least.
Have still Photoshop 7.1 in use with a shit ton of plugins. Never felt having any issues with older versions. The quiet opposite, i mostly think that an upgrade nowadays is a downgrade in terms of usability and data security.

I saw some "tutorial" by a russian guy that made Windows 8.1 look like pic, but even my autism wasn't enough to achieve it, I tried on a VM and could not make it look even close. The best part is that apparently it even had DWM enabled so there isn't screen tearing, thing I could not achieve on Windows 7 using the classic theme so I can't even watch a video on YT without switching to Aero.

That only applies to W7/8.1 from Starter, Home/Core (includes region/language locked), Pro and Ultimate to Windows 10 Home/Pro. Every other edition is exempted from the free upgrade. Windows Thin PC? No. Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Workgroup? No.
If you want a digital license of LTSB for cheap, it can still be done. Basically you need to buy a MAK online and convert it to Digital License by installing the default OEM_NONSLP key for the various editions after activation with the MAK. Of course, this method is still not legit on paper.
Now you must purchase subscriptions? How about MAKs then? Isn't subscriptions only for the Kill MySelf models? The only thing I know is that to use LTSB you must purchase the more expensive E5 subscription instead of the E3 one. I am pretty sure however there are still bulk purchases (minimum 5 AFAIK) available for non-subscription Licenses.
