Gaymin

>(((Gaymin))) in 2018

Did you stop gaymin because you grew up or because gaymes just suck today?

I am playing more and more because games are getting ever better

>ifunny tier meme
>i am superior to you

aha ok mate

xd

realized I never actually liked games and just used them to fill the void of social interaction in my life. cut them out of my life when I realized how toxic they were to my psyche.

When I went to college, I slowly stopped playing games. They felt less and less necessary. Now I pick up a game and it gets boring in 10 minutes. I can't even play Overwatch any longer.

Gayming is fucking stupid and I want Sup Forums to leave Sup Forums forever.

Multiplayer games are terrible, that's pretty much universally known. Play good games, and in reasonable doses.

>single player games

I may have anxiety and depression but I don't have autism.

I am playing far less because I recently became a father and no longer have time for hobbies outside of being a father.
It's a bittersweet time. Being a dad is neat but I miss vidya with my buddies.

>tfw have access to basically every game ever made but don't feel like playing any of them.

>microtransactions mixed with gambling elements
>no difficulty
>no thought required to win, just button mashing to play cinematics
>prerelease as an excuse for you to pay for an unfinished game
>selling you an unfinished game in DLC doses like you in a pharmacy looking for pain killers
>Old games still more fun than newer versions of said game
- twitchmeme and esports industry bringing muh gaymes to the sheep, who btw have no issues with serving botnet overlords (((steam)))
- need 9001 accounts to play
- no offline mode
- PC gaymin basically modern console-tier with a premium for muh 64gb ddr4 ram needed for max fps meme

PC mustard and ketchup race

Will you teach your kid about vidya or spare him/her the pain of disconnecting from that world eventually

>VR will take over

basically same ideological war of today between PajeetOS and GNU+Loonix will happen between VR vs RL

who /intentionally prevent family/friends from playing games to save them/ here

i've purposely stalled my brothers attempts to get a "gaming pc" to save him from a life of isolation and virginity. he's basically a chad in the making now.

>new Quake coming out
>Unreal 4 is in beta permanently top lel
>new DOOM

Honestly there hasn't been a better time for gaymen.

This tbhq. I only play ps2 and GameCube shit couple hours a week. Tried to play new stuff but get bored after like 20 minutes. All the games are the same shit. I hate what twitch and esports has done.

both

I want to bring back LAN games, I want to kill all DLC and micropayments to play games. I want to buy a game and fucking play it in all its glory and then get together with m8s and play against each other.

I don't like steam, I don't like origins, I don't like every fucking cunt under the sun having a store. It was still okay when the only one around was steam, but now you gotta have a mirrion accounts just to download and play games.

A bit of both. Lack of innovation in AAA games combined with having less free time makes the whole thing seem unattractive.

Stopped gaymin slowly after getting a job. Even though now I have the money to buy good PC, console, and games but I don't actually play games anymore. Whenever I try to play games, it started to feel like a chore, then I stopped completely now.

I only play crosswords and sudoku on my phone.

im on my way out
once my system is no longer usable im quitting
gaming in general died with normies and their expendable cash
>you really cant blame the publishers and devs to be honest, blame the normies

I realized how much time I was wasting on games, Now i wont play more than an hour a day. sometimes only once a week now

>Quake 3 superior
>No opinion on unreal
>old doom was scarier and harder

Interesting information, but whut about muh hand-eye coordination, faster thought process, creativity, etc? Seems like Even being older now the old vidya habits are somewhat useful in everyday life in some situations ofc

>but whut about muh hand-eye coordination, faster thought process, creativity, etc

it's all bullshit pushed by teenagers and reddit, when you actually read into it, it's basically just about how you are programming your brain to play games. they don't provide real world skills.

>finally have a good gaming rig
>rarely play any games on it

The sub-60fps days I was way more into gaming. Things mattered back then and I could immerse myself in vidya and films. I'm currently unemployed and the only things I'm not tired of yet are podcasts and music. At least I can drink my cares away.

Whut do u replace the guayemes with (that is just as fun)? I find that it has at least helped me financially, in the sense that if you don't fall for the upgrade meme, it is an inexpensive hobby compared to other time killers, so you end up hoarding da cashmoneyz.

The only multiplayer that holds my attention now a days is rocket league

funny how that works, podcasts actually did become more and moar of something i listen/watch to as the gaymin went down.

I rarely play now, except for some multiplayer games, mostly coop with my friends at weekend time. It's mostly about socializing with friends over teamspeak without going over/out or with friends who live far away.

I only play very specific games though, sandbox type shit in singleplayer. For multiplayer it's usually shooters(ish) games.
I also have a sort of professional interest in the simulation/AI interaction aspects.

So I guess it was growing up AND realizing how stupid they are which made by gaming times go down significantly.
I also used to play horror games. I do like a masterpiece which more than a game, but an artistic creation. For me Alien: Isolation was that. From the very well implemented AI to the extremely good ambiance.

Vidya helped with spatial awareness and tactical thinking. It allowed me to try out different shit, idk about coordination. The only coordination related thing is that you can get better with stuff where your hand movements don't have a direct feedback. For example it's useful for remote controlling drones where you don't have any feedback. But I think that can be learned without vidya too.

All I know about rocket league is that it's my meathead brother-in-law's favorite game.

>le meatheadd xBBB

back to

other than working out, whut other hobby can you fill your time with that can potentially compete with gaymin? Readin about all the things is good but brain might need moar stmulation. Also, being (((productive))) meme is just another way of saying that you should pour more time in this urban botnet and to stop having free time to think about the implications of such botnet ideals

Eh, I'll play a game if I like the aesthetic, mechanics, and story. There usually needs to be an element of challenge as well. Games to me are just another medium to tell a story or provide entertainment. Luckily I got out of the MMO trap a while back. Even now though, I still feel guilty for playing games for extended periods of time. I recently just finished Ruiner and am about to start on Dark Souls 3.

>So I guess it was growing up AND realizing how stupid they are which made by gaming times go down significantly.

How much stupid are they? I tend to think that there is some truth to this, but can also see how some games are good for the brain - would like to see if the vidya generation has as much dementia in later age compared to previous gen

Go look up rocket league rlcs and check out the mechanical skill ceiling. Not even considering positions strats, it's just a game that is able to be novel for me every time. Also improvement is very visible. A lot of the fun for me is seeing myself improve and be able to do things that were previously out of reach.

I still play video games because it's a hobby and it's fun, what's up with you

The game I have played the most is Counter-Strike, the original version. This game is rarely played today. CS:S and CS:GO are more popular but I am not happy with the changes.

I have played more than 5000 hours of the original CS. I can still dominate when I play, but it's hard to pick up the new versions which actually has players.

I didn't change, the games did.

Last game Ireally played was BF3. I have BF4 and new doom less than half hour in each
Really dunno why prolly YouTube

Will try again when fast mem arrives maybe.

ok so i dont usualy do this but this is a Sup Forums thread through and through

Using your brain is good, tactical stuff is good, entertainment is good if you can keep it under control. It's also useful to for breaking letting go and breaking the pattern of everyday life.

I don't think so the world stupid is the best. I just couldn't find a better one quickly. Boring is a better word for it, no new stimuli. It becomes a mindless repetitive action. Also growing up I found IRL things to replace it and IRL things are more varied.
Tetris apparently has some effects on the brain, there was a scientific paper about it.

come up with your own projects, everytime you get those ideas where you're like you know that'd be a great app/service/etc, start working on it.

alternatively: fishing, stock trading, crypto trading, mechanical maintenance, etc

Doing other things, currently setting up my high tech hydroponics prototype with iot meme, used to be fishkeeping but I sold them all now that I realized I can't keep up with the maintenance schedule.

I don't have any clue what this post is supposed to mean, but it seems like you have some issues to work out.

Oh wow, this looks like the first genuinely interesting gaming innovation I've seen in over a decade.

Also it's such a simple premise that anyone can appreciate it on some level. Literally car soccer.

Yeah, it's like a sports game that actually takes advantage of the unique medium video games offer instead of poorly imitating a RL sport.

The inherent flaw with video games is the lack of a standard. You have standards for literature, movies, and music; all of them can be played with your typical media device. Video games are still tied to proprietary devices, and those devices are locked-down shit designed to drive up prices. They're anti-consumer.

unless you see how the fall of gaming is directly connected to the rise of data mining and SaaS

>when you realize tech has gone wrong
>when you realize all those 240hz displays still suck compared to real life graphics
>when you realize a pen and paper is more precise than your 1337$ pc for drawing or taking notes
>when you realize your sexual energy levels (always over 9000 ofc) fluctuations cause fluctuations in your tendency to buy new hardware

also

>cannot unsee the botnet everytime I reboot to it for gaymin
>we are an excuse to feed data to these marketing types
>scarf-wearing starbucks-holding weak-wristed (((men))) destroying the industry while the chadboss destroys something else that unironically starts with Sup Forums

hmmm

Gotta love when underage cockloving shitposters from Sup Forums find out there are other boards on the site.

>Oh wow, this looks like the first genuinely interesting gaming innovation I've seen in over a decade.

>Microtransactions
> crates that need keys to unlock that you need to pay freedombux to get
>trading game disguised as automobile futbol
>unironically fun but honesty wins here

>Microtransactions
> crates that need keys to unlock that you need to pay freedombux to get
Isn't that lootcrate shit true of every AAA game now though? Only companies that don't like free money leave microtransactions out of their game.

I'm not certain, but as I understand it a significant portion of microtransactions contribute to tornement prize pools.

Also it's cosmetic, the octane is a default car and everyone uses it. You don't need to buy anything to be competitive. I know you have to draw a line somewhere, but it doesn't bother me like in some other games.

My taste changed into racing sims but I do game much much less

This
Not even half of those "muh hen-die" fags have the hand eye coordination to fucking catch a ball thrown at them
Also quicker decision making is something you grow into with the stresses of life not fucking quick time events or "lmaoo cod drawp shawts"

The only games I play anymore are old school ones like Age of Empires, and I only play those when I need to feel powerful. I play single player and whoop the computer's ass. Feels good man

Gaming culture has changed drastically. When I was younger, my dad was an electronic engineer and ran a PC hardware and consulting business. So we always had the newest hardware. We had multiple gaming PC's in the house and would invite people over for lan parties. We would throw up a Q3, UT or CS server on the network and frag all day.
My dad taught me C and we would mod Q3 together.
Gaming used to be a wonderful thing. Now it's so disconnected. Avid gamers are almost always faggot 13 year olds or 30 somethings with no hobbies, or life at all, to speak of.

And I was one of those. And I still play games now and then. But most of my time now is spent programming, in the gym, or just spending time with my wife and son.
I have friends who buy every new game, every new Nvidia GPU, every new console. And they are all struggling with money, jobs and relationships.

The question is: is gaming the cause of this? Or is gaming a symptom of an increasingly infantile society?

everything you just said is a load of paranoid horseshit and this thread still belongs on Sup Forums

"Big name" games these days are almost universally shit, but there's plenty of good stuff coming from so called indie developers.

Games are instant-gratification-time-sink toys just like drugs and porn. Stop doing these things and improve yourself, you'll get all the pleasure you need from that

improve myself how? i cant spend ever waking moment busy thats how you become stressed out

This
I literally carry a flash drive full of games that run on at least a gma 950 and any core2duo for lan parties

My dad did exactly that job, and that's the reason I never had any decent hardware, only leftovers that would otherwise go to the trash.
Had to wait until adulthood to build my first good PC, made of parts I purchased myself without asking him for anything.
The point of this post being: neurosis can make you love video games too, it depends.

>you can't blame the publishers
My ass you can't blame the publishers
It's both the publisher's fault for dlc and it's the consumers normies fault for accepting this shit

A long time ago, games were made by people who love their craft. The early Sonic and Mario games are perfectly playable today, because they were made with care and attention.

The vast majority of modern games are not made with the intention of making a fun or artistic game. Most modern games are investments of a bog company, who only care about ROI.

You can see the difference clearly, even in games that are in the same series. Fallout was a good game. Fallout 2 was also a good game. Fallout 3 had a few extras that you paid for, but still generally a good game. And now look at Fallout 4. Or any modern big game: Day 1 DLCs, +10 DLCs over the first 2 years, Day 1 Ultra Edition (+$15)... all while the game itself is barely any good. Most new BigGame (Number#) seems to be nothing more than BigGame (Number -1) with slightly better graphics.

I myself am an avid gamer, but I rarely play more than 1-2 hours every other day. Even then, it is mostly smaller games on mobile, or titles that I liked when I was younger (Dota, MGS).

Maybe the times will changes, and good games will return. The current generation of gamers certainly deserve better than Call of Battlefield #23.

I'm playing weird indie games now, they're only getting better.

They were the only good ones actually. At least you win against people and interact with people. In singleplayer you're just playing shitty programs and grinding for imaginary XP points.

That said I'm on my way out of gaming too. Its not worth it.

If a game can't entertain you by its own it's a shitty game. Watch your reddit spacing.

You're all faggots. Jesus Christ.

It reelks that most of you were regulars on Sup Forums and now feel a sense of superiority for getting out of that shithole (and into another one).

With all due respect, grow up.

you really need to be sute to onow the difference between formatting and reddit spacing frim the explainations i have seen reddit spacing is the result of reddit's shit parsing

If there's a new line after every fucking line it's reddit spacing.

Not every single moment, but gamers typically dedicate much more time to games than they should

GPUs and GPU prices are bloated, devs are lazy as fuck and the average "PC gamer" is a consumer whore
and that time and money is better spent hoarding/archiving for the future

Any decent game will run on laptop's igpu. Maximum settings are the real meme here.

Stopped gaming completely and haven't looked back since.

Which indie games, for curiosity? I absolutely loved Talos but that's pretty much the only one I ever played.

>Which indie games, for curiosity?
I would also like to know this.

Thanks to the power of emulation, you have an nearly endless well of games to play, as long you're willing to dig up.

There's no reason to just sit and wait for the one good game of the year when there are 200 better ones from 1988 just waiting

Have fun. I find the Japanese industry to be somewhat behind when it comes to games, so good ones can still come from it from time to time.

Given this is Sup Forums, you guys should take a look on all the shit done by Mr.Zachtronics.

games are cheap but you play video games for 4 years and you basically have no transferrable skills. do any other hobby and youll most likely have learned something new and have new transferrable skills that you can leverage into other hobbies/fields.

games are literal parasites on your time. you do inane mindless shit for hours and gain nothing at all. literally nothing to show for it except some numbers on a screen that don't mean shit.

if you can't get yourself to pull away from video games, you havent found anything you actually enjoy doing. you shouldn't enjoy playing video games unless you just have nothing else. i used to be the epitome of gaymer nerd (minus the grease and obesity). i have close to 6k hours on CS + CSGO alone. prob another 1k on WoW, 1k on Rust, 1k on PoE, and easily 4k on Runescape.

Yeah ive wasted a lot of time playing video games. Now i enjoy doing electronics, DIY, and software dev in my free time. point is, once you find something that you enjoy doing really and it gives you real satisfaction, youll play less and less video games until they just feel boring as fuck. maybe ive literally played video games to death but i don't really find them that fun anymore. the appeal is always there but ill try and play a game and get bored within 15-20 minutes. it's just not rewarding anymore like it used to be. and the only reason it was rewarding is because i had nothing else that felt rewarding like winning a game of CSGO or getting some epic 360 skillshot that made me feel good. now none of that shit means anything to me.

I now play exclusively on my Nintendo Switch.

I realised PC was a time wasting and money draining meme. Fuck Steam, Nintendo has the best games.

Is this one similar to Human Resource Machine? That was a fun game.

Pretty much.
It's microcontroller assembly autism, with a hefty dose of shenzen humor.

oh and i was going to also say: even if you offered me money to play video games, i honestly would probably get really fucking sad eventually because playing video games now just makes me feel like a loser. im gaining nothing real from playing video games, even if i get paid to play them. sure it was my childhood dream and for the longest time, i was ready to suck a fat dick to get paid to play video games but now you'd have to pay me pretty well to do that. it's essentially selling my soul to be a worthless entertainer just so i can play some video games. the appeal is no longer there.

doing electronics is a fun way to be balanced in terms of 'technology'. i like electronics but its not my jazz so much as software. but both are kind of rewarding in that they are like puzzles for me. and who doesn't like a good challenge. getting something done in electronics/dev feels awesome and you can show it off to your friends and feel good about yourself. no one gives a fuck about your rating in call of duty or whatever else meme tier gaymes you play and the truth is its gonna be a while before video games matter that much in our lives(aka when robots take care of all meaningless shit in our lives and people do nothing with their lives anymore).

there comes a time when, as a person, you want to do something with yourself. it's usually a result of seeing all your friends/family/acquaintances move on with their lives. the shitty people you thought would never make it now gets paid more than you and works at a much more prestigious workplace than you do. your ex girlfriend now has a new boyfriend and hes a chad and makes more money than you. basically r9k shit makes you grow the fuck up and get on with your life. you can't play vidya forever user, you will either be broke or alone or both.

Pretty much this. I play a lot of /vr/ shit and go to /vr/ as well (and some shit from the early 2000s), but for only about 3 hours every 2-3 days

you're a retard.

One line between a message isn't MUH REDDIT SPACING REE. Fuck off back to where you came from, kid.
>>>/YouTube/
>>>/Twitch/

Thanks for proving my point, reddit.

It's possible to name one actually good game that does not run on linux?
You can name several games that don't run on linux, but a good one?

"Don't run" as in "don't run natively" or "don't run in wine"?

"Don't need to install windows in a VM to run it"

I enjoy games in moderation

im getting bored very fast

>Did you stop gaymin because you grew up or because gaymes just suck today?

I think it's a combination of both in my case.

This, it's a joke that people actually think video games build any kind of skills. Just admit that they're fun timesinks that you can become addicted to.

there are still some good games though

>that garbage
>good
If it wasn't for the horribly clunky controls, bad hitboxes, and randomly teleporting back into mobs after rolling away from them, it could have been good.

Nowadays I only play on my Switch. Sometimes I play multiplayer pc games when some of my old friends are online but that's really more for social interaction rather than the game itself.
I don't game as much as I used to, it could be because I got older but I don't really have any other hobbies so I mostly just shitpost in my free time when I don't have any homework. Sometimes I find a game I really like and get really invested in that until I've had enough. After that the void in my life returns and I spend most of my day shitposting again.

I stopped playing games because I don't have time any more ;_;

I sometimes bingeplay though.

There's a good game out once in a while though.

Okay, I'll bite. Why is reading fiction, watching moves, sports, even fucking weed and drinking considered better than videogames when they give you equally nothing?
