gnome? Systemd, no thanks
KDE, WTF is KDE grandad

XFCE every day son.

xfce, it's like good old gnome, before the interface went to shit

i3

My african american, DWM is the best WM I've ever used

PLASMA!

>DE

BLOAT

Only good thing about kde is kde 3's startup sound

gnome because it has wayland as default

>like good old gnome, before the interface went to shit
MATE.
You're looking for MATE.
mate-desktop.org/

KDE, but the old KDE desktop, so trinity desktop.

Gnome 3 sucks hot ass.

That right there's the main advantage for now.
Hopefully we'll see stuff like sway continue to develop, but GNOME seems like the best current implementation of Wayland

KDE - as long as you AVOID MKail. It will wreck your mailbox beyond repair and the bugs shall never be fixed.

KDE Plasma with a couple KWin scripts is goat

Also really low memory footprint

LXDE

GNOME.

KDE is more for the power user but it crashes constantly for me to the point it's unusable.

GNOME I have never had a single problem with.

Both are bloat, but KDE is functional bloat.

xfce

>WTF is KDE grandad
>posts deprecated software

I like Xfce but out of the box it's kinda fucky with QT programs, which is bad because that's most of what I use. Also it seems to lacks some of the customizability KDE has. If there was another highly customizable QT environment without the activity stuff and the cripsness of XFce I would switch instantly.

/thread

>crashes constantly for me
Never crashes for me. You are doing something wrong.

just say nigger or nigga like a normal person you faggot

GNOME is buggier and slower than KDE and has fewer features than MATE. There is no reason to use GNOME.

Except if you like consistency and stability.

And please don't tell me that KDE is for powerusers just because it has configuration options for the settings-dialog of the control-center.

Can Gnome do this?

>stability
I've had GNOME crash on me more in a week of use more than KDE has in months.

it doesnt matter, autothemer can rice any desktop

forgot link autotheme.wordpress.com/

I tried Kubuntu Yesterday and was quite surprised at how fucking shit it was. Back to Xubuntu which I've been using for years.

I like Budgie.

This. KDE as second choice, for when I need Wayland.

this

Gnome is fine for my purposes. Multiple workspaces are seamless and I dont even factor in resource allocation for my DE since my system isn't a $200 chinkbook.

Use what works for you. Thats the point of Linux.

I'm currently using openbox, is switching to dwm worth the learning curve of a tiling manager

Yes it is, especially since dwm can do both tiling and floating very well, and is both faster and more efficient than openbox

KDE > Gnome
Qt > GTK

Gnome is a foot. KDE is beautiful and works on my machines (TM)

This
gnome and kde are too bloated

Gnome beats other DE's on aesthetics alone, the workflow and built-in programs are just a bonus. Everything else looks like this to various degrees without a few China's worth of rice.

It's funny kde is rock solid for me. Gnome leaks memory like crazy

Cinnamon.
:3
Budgie.

>Docume...

Free software is bett-

OpenBox

I'm more of a KDE guy myself. Shame it doesn't get as many themes as GTK desktops.

>he doesn't use sway

>implying breeze isnt perfection and that it needs more themes

Works On My Machine(tm). (Mint 18.3)

Even then, that's a pretty minor thing to complain about.

...

Yeah, breeze dark is really good. It just has a bit too much padding on some elements and the checkboxes are ugly imo.

>muh three pixels

Show me on the doll where the DE touched you, user.

MATE

and this is why Linux on Desktop is still just a meme

>muh meme DE that cant get basic aesthetics right and runs just as crappily as gnome, built as the flagship DE for a meme distro

Neither. Real men don't need a graphical environment.

>everything i don't like is a maymay

Name one DE that does get "basic aesthetics" right in your view, and post evidence. (^:

>having distinct choices is bad/is a meme

I pay your $20 to fuck off.

instead of one solid choice you have twenty unfinished understaffed amateur projects

fpbp

>instead of one solid choice you have twenty unfinished understaffed amateur projects

Cool story Pajeet, 20 rupees have been deposited to your Windows Live account. Glad you never touched LE LOONIX and never will.
Not even a (You), MS paid you already.

64055706

im not even a winfag, you cretin

Xfce will never be ported to Wayland. RIP 1996-2015.

>Sweedish
>chauffers
>wardrope
>"""fixed"""

>"maymay"
>using the backward smiley with the carat nose
kill yourself twice

no, use xmonad if you want a dynamic window manager

> AIDS OR CANCER?
*sigh*...gnome I guess

The problem is if that "one solid choice" isn't what you like or want then you're fucked with no recourse. That's never a good position to be in.
>but just make that one choice good hurr durr
You can't make something that's good for everyone at once. Some people love Macs and think they're exactly how a UI should be. Some people think their UI is obnoxious and confining and gets in the way all the time. I'd much rather have a choice of several DEs with rough edges than One True UI.

I hate Gnome. But I don't have to use it, I can use something else. If you like Gnome, you get to use it. We're both happy.

KDE is shit
GNOME is great

Wayland has an X compatibility layer. This is before you consider the fact that it'll take many years for it to actually completely replace X.

question: are there any browsers that are fully Wayland-native?

How I do make KDE to look good?

I think anything that uses gtk3 or qt5 should be wayland native.

You can't. It will always be ugly

B-But it works better than Gnome and it's more lightweight than Gnome.

This so much.
>is switching to dwm worth the learning curve of a tiling manager

There is no fucking learning. If you haved used i3 before then dwm is nothing. Takes literally 5 mins to get the hang of it. It's very minimal but not autistically minimal

This. People here are so paranoid of "bloat" that most of their hardware goes unused.

Plasma + kwin = 350mb of ram on solus. How is this bloat?

>anything that uses gtk3 or qt5 should be wayland native.
literally anything?
well that makes the transition MUCH easier
assuming that's true of course

Well yeah it's the GUI toolkit that matters. It's not like the application itself has to explicitly support wayland unless it's a window manager or something.

>unless it's a window manager or something
or a non-toolkit program like urxvt or st

Well there's a few things that break, like recording other windows and hotkeys.

Well that has to do with Wayland purposely not supporting those things.

I've found that KDE crashes far more often with arch than with ubuntu. I've decided to use gnome for now, stable so far at least, though I'm really not liking how much fucking ram it uses lol

KDE for love of God, how is this even an argument anymore? It was back in GNOME 2 and KDE 4 days, not anymore.

>Swedish
>Implying being a cuck is good

Is window dragging/scrolling/anything related smooth and tear free?

KDE Plasma is the only DE that matters.

KDE trinity is #1. if youre a retard and you don't like it for *some* reason then just put a matte gray theme on it and you'll realise it's the best

open the application menu and try scrolling through a list of programs with a mouse wheel

it's fucking pathetic

KDE ftw

>picture reads gnome vs kds
>your post reads kde vs gnome

So which one is it?

No wonder youre confused
