Nothing if you don't get programming knowledge.
Many people get CS degree without even knowing how to code.

a shitty paper indicating you can ping a server with the console.
Get a math master instead, it's so easy to learn computer "science" at home.

bobs and vagene.

I have one, why am I so alone ?
;_;
wasted year(s)

programming socks and girl pills.

Just exactly how fucking useless are American universities? Lmfao.

This can't possibly be true. Where did you get this idea?

masters in cs at a state uni is worth your time if you don't pay for it

g will do/say whatever it takes to keep everybody content with masturbating 4 times a day and posting in desktop threads as their profession

autism

I know some of these faggots. They are the kind of people that get a passing grade in Operating Systems doing their assignments on a Windows Machine running a VM with Minix while they add a new system call to Minix using Notepad++ through SSH, because they are too betacuck brainlets to use emacs or even vim in a native Minix machine. And when they need to do the fucking report on the thing they just did, they start to whine about hating LaTeX.

These kind of people disgust me.

lemme fuck your boipucci user

and acne

How the fuck do I get rid of my adult acne

Get real math degree with profile for CS (lots of discrete math, statistic etc) + learn programming, algos in free time, all you need is Java/C++, R/Haskell.

IN cs you are goint to have fuckton of boring subject, cs is huge so you will have some stuff form ee, 3d graphic, cad etc. You are not going to enjoy all of it, so you will have to waste time to pass those which are not in you area of interest.

Its better to choose math because its application is universal, then learn programming and if you will ever need to learn something from CS, with math degree your brain will be used to grasp stuff form CS easily, because CS derived from math.

Some better uni have nice and comfy cs degree ie. carniege melon, caltech, eth zurich.

Choose this way, study hard and you will end with 400k+ salary after few years of documented experience at worst.

Or finish some meme degree cs and end up as professional java web-form code monkey and make 60k/year

>Many people get CS degree without even knowing how to code.
>t. a guy who never went to an uni
you know they teach everyone programming nowadays, just because?

Pop it!

Higher on the ladder years down the road. Might be the deciding factor in promotions etc

Bachelors won't get you into upper management

Wasted degree to be fucking honest, cumpai. Should have gone for an MBA.

>And when they need to do the fucking report on the thing they just did, they start to whine about hating LaTeX.
Someone who has a masters in CS that whines about LaTeX deserves a right to that opinion because he's a person that had to deal with it daily over an extended period of time writing reports and a thesis, so it wouldn't be like he doesn't know what he's talking about.

An entry level job that pays 40k/year but only if you have a culminative 10 years of experience across a dozen different technologies.

...

>Might be the deciding factor in promotions etc
Funny thing happened to my friend recently - he got a decent executive government job over two years ago, and when the government changed he was called to explain what he wrote in his fucking bachelor thesis two fucking decades ago.
Apparently they didn't like his edgy statements about firing every worker and replacing them by basically thai slave labor in the thesis about restructurisation of a shipyard he wrote when he was 20 years old.

Computer science isn't programming

I've never tried LaTeX and I only have a bachelors in CS, but I immediately dismissed it when my friend said
>There's a compile error in my document

I'm not a complete moron so I'm able to operate word to the extent I needed to in school, and my profs didn't have autism and force latex on everyone.

The same thing Dr. Pavel told the CIA.

your saying a math degree will get you 400k+ a year but CS will only get you 60k+?

go back to sci with your lies

ymmv in ching chong countries

Believe it or not, it happened in the middle of europe. We're going through some antidemocratic turbulences lately though and everything is political.

Why is the world becoming so pro multiculturalism? Where are our country's nationalistic values?

300K starting job

...

A masters in CS, retard.

lies haha

I said heavy cs related math degree, not theory math for circle jerk, then I poste 3 unis where CS has good program.

Do you know why most companies that pay well ie. google, require to solve math/logic/algos on interview?

Because companies that create their own solution instead of relying on other companies work do not care how many framework apis do you know.

They are looking for people who are good at math/logic/algos because its a sign they know how to think in certain way and if they will have to learn something new they will learn it quickly.

and yes, jobs like hft, quant, ml, cv at places where you are actually doing R&D will pay you much more than java corpo webdev.

Every non-trivial application of cs require strong math foundations.

Do software engineering or learn programming on your own, if you want to be a programmer.

He actually speaks the truth here. As a CS grad I'll only make 58k max in my state if I get lucky

I make 80k in my second year of web dev in one of the lowest CoL cities in America and don't have a degree yet. Move or get your shit together

> if you dont pay for it
now thats some serious hacking right there, actually dodging the college scam while going to college
> free financial aid will only barely cover the 4 years it takes to get the BS, no way it will stretch to cover the masters too

> masters of business
Why get a Business degree when you can just Start a business legally without a degree?
> sounds like a scam specifically to teach you through experience how to field other scams

>study business-IT because didn't get into CS program of my uni
>be worthless for any company, but atleast i spend years studying and having nervous breakdowns
>can't wait to get a bachelor's degree

most companies pay for your masters, senpai

Grad algos class sucks ass. Such a waste of time.

it will make people not instantly thrash your CVs but that is pretty much all

But programming is computer science.

Have you interviewed new grads? Some don't even know what source control is.

They should make source control part of CS curriculum?

source control has nothing to do with CS, at that point you're basically learning project management

if a computer science course is teaching you how to use git, it's not a computer science course.

What the fuck is "source control"? You're obviously not talking about git or subversion as those things are referred to as "version control"

Some computer science courses make version control part of the submission process. You're required to push your code to a repository, such as a private one you created and give the professor and/or graders access to it.

In my classes using git is heavily recommended but they don't teach it to us aside from saying read this documentation. Our school is also heavy with Linux and vim everywhere so most can use git through the command line relatively easily. Some stick to shitty plugins in their editor or IDE though.

Computer science is math.

a pat on the back and a slap on the back of the head

No it's not.

>inb4 muh pajeets are """computer scientists"""

In burgerland, or could I make something like that in the northern Europe?

good luck finding a job Rajesh

>I'm not a complete moron
yeah, there's just a compile error in your thinking

I have published journal articles using LaTeX, made posters with it, and even typeset a book. I don't whine about it, but neither do I like it. TeX is a good typesetting system, and designed brilliantly to work within the constraints of 40-year-old hardware, but it needs a modern programming language. (Even a modern programming language older than itself, like Scheme.) I have some hope for SILE.

Each sentence doesn't need its own paragraph.

further in debt

I love this shit because then if you know how to code The Old Boys will insist "Its not about coding thats the least important part!!!"

Software is like most businesses you just have to be a loud mouth and a braggart and push your way around. The more ruthless you are the farther you get.

>That's all well and good young man, but I'm looking for Junior developer skills for this position now please leave my office this interview is over.

>tfw took up general assistant job in uni to cover tuition costs

My Networks and Security course teaches programming, any half decent uni shouls atleast have some programming in any computing course. Really it's up to the individual to spend his/her free time furthering their knowledge.

a sexual assault charge

Masters in CS:
>machine learning
>neural networks
>multi-agent systems
>distributed systems
>fuzzy systems
>formal methods
>game theory
>data mining
>image and speech recognition
>etc...

Nice java web-form code monkey preparation

>t. Too stupid to get into grad school

Did you not graduate with at least a 3.0 GPA?

Can you clarify that statement?

So much bad advice itt...

t. guy with a code degree

wait i thought IT was more useless than CS?

...

70k/yr starting.

It might go away for a short period if you have sex.

sre/swe job with total comp of 170K first year in SF is what it got me

A JOB
/thread

Also it will get you jealousy from the 30-40 year olds who worked wageslave jobs for 10+ years before working the same position as you.

I can see it. Early projects and assignments are usually just modifying skeleton code. You could struggle through it. More challenging projects are done in groups, so at that point there's always a few dead weight members that can't contribute for shit. I'm not a genius programmer but I'm in 4th year and I think I'd be really shit if I didn't work on personal projects and open source in my spare time. The bare minimum you have to do to get a CS degree really isn't much.

I believe it is desu I was speaking to the head of computer engineering at my uni so I could decide whether to go into software development or computer science. The first year of the degree is the same in both which is programming fundamentals and some other stuff then in the other two years its really similar apart from some module difference I guess it all depends on which modules you choose though

>go straight to masters from undergrad
>finish masters
>apply for jobs
>have no experience, no one wants to pay a premium for someone with less experience than a junior dev with an internship
>oops

Nice meme. If your workplace isn't paying you to do a masters (and willing to give you a raise for doing it), you're wasting your time.

But i got that with an Associate's

Most accurate answer itt

The only reason you obsess about the environment is that you're too dumb to do actual work

You'll be a few years older and deeper in debt.

cool they're teaching game theory in cs now.
