I was thinking about migrating to Fastmail from Gmail, but they don't allow dots in email addresses, so I couldn't have firstname.lastname@fastmail.com like I have with Gmail. Of course, I would prefer to use my own domain like firstname@lastname.tld like they allow you to, but my last name is so common that every good domain is already taken.

That dot requirement is because they allow some tricks with subfolders, e.g. if your email is user@fastmail.com then you can mail to tiddies@user.fastmail.com and that mail will end up in the folder tiddies
