VR

Do you have or plan to buy a VR headset? (even the cheap plastic google cardboard)
Are you using it often if yes then what are you using it for?
Would you recommend someone to buy one?
Any good apps for watching movies (porn) on Google cardboard?

>>>google.com

Cardboard is a shitty meme. Just wait for the proper VR technology to get cheaper/better.

Vive is awesome, but too expensive for the average faggot.
>doesn't matter, mummy paid for mine
Can't comment on other headsets as I don't own them.
Desktop (as in vive and rift and osvr) is pretty great and you'll be taken aback by how immersive a few screens strapped to your face can be.
I use mine mostly for gaymin and this app called Bigscreen which allows you to see your monitors in VR whilst being in a virtual environment like bedroom and kitchen.
TL;DR recommended if you have plenty of money to spend on a gimmick

This. You show it to your friends and family as some sort of talking point, then you use it for porn.

That's what I'm going to use it for???
Welcome to the future

I have a gearvr, picked it up for 114. Works good, not great. Worth the money if u want a cheap VR solution.

Is the cardboard good enough for basic VR and porn? My phone supports Google Daydream, but I don't feel like dumping a hundred bucks on a meme.

I dunno about basic VR. Tried it once with porn and it was awful.

But it costs like a dollar, I'd say it's worth it if you want to try it a couple times. Gear VR and headsets like that are shitty memes, too expensive for a shitty experience.

I REALLY want to buy a VR headset for VR porn. Is there a video viewer I can use that functions like youtube's html vr viewer where you can just pan around with a mouse or am I going to have to buy a headset?

if you don't want to buy a headset, why not just watch regular porn?

I like the PoV style, and if a media player had that I think I'd be content for a while until I finally opt in to get a headset

i like it too
kind of feels like a first person game
>but erotic

I'm waiting until at least Vive 2 whenever that comes, by then hopefully there will be more VR stuff that interests me.. 800 Leaf Bux is too much for me to pay for something I know the novelty will wear off quickly and also when the 2nd gen version is already being talked about

I have GearVR, use it for porn and some tinkering with Unity. Gonna try Unreal soon.

It's fun, but I wouldn't shell out more for VR at this moment. The tech just isn't mature enough (at consumer level) to justify shelling out thousands. 1440p means you'll still be able to see pixels (or dots really), which is a big no-no.

>I think I'd be content for a while until I finally opt in to get a headset
Or a girlfriend right?

I can see that VR headset and controller can be used for remote controlling a robot with arms. You don't need to go out or control your robot in completly diffirent country.

I had one and tried it with porn. It was terrible. My eyes hurt because it looked so fucking shit.
Then my arm hurt, because I was holding it to my face, then I used some elastic I had laying around to secure it, so then my face hurt because I had cardboard digging into it. Over all cardboard is a shitty meme. Like not even worth the £1 meme

Oculus?

When I tried it (with some shitty gearVR rip off, which wasn't great but certainly good enough) it kinda didn't add to the experience much.
I'd say I much prefer watching PoV porn on a nice TV/ Monitor. The thing is you're kinda only looking in one place anyway (at the action, so to speak) thus VR doesn't add much. I guess the 3D aspect was nice. But not worth any serious investment until they either a) learn to use the 360 in a more interesting way, or b) Make good VR porn games.

I plan to buy a cheap 2nd gen one, by mid 2019

for now, free demos at stores would do. don't have enough money to waste.

I have google cardboard. I want my 10 dollars back. The porn is horrible. Having to contort your neck down to see the pussy in every video is terrible. All around useless product

That's because it doesn't actually have the depth of, say, a Vive or Rift. It's more like just a screen that goes around your face.

gearvr/daydream are in a whole different league than cheap ripoffs, though

This. I'll buy a $350 2019 PlaystationVR Pro

>5 MP per eye
>inside/out tracking
>controls included
>eye tracking, that allows games actually look current gen
>still wired

I ordered a Rift a few days ago, the one which comes with 2 sensors and Touch controllers too. I don't see too much I'd really want to do with it, but I've always been interested in VR and a full bundle has finally gotten cheap enough for me to buy just in order to try. Vive is still basically double the price of OR where I live.

I don't think I'll really use it for porn, it seems too involved and cumbersome to set up and use just to jerk it.

Cardboard is too shitty to actually use for sure, I'm certain it's not meant to be anything more than a very quick proof of concept type of thing.

Vr porn is overrated

I'm waiting for the apple one instead of wasting time on those shitty half assed pc prototypes

>learn to use the 360 in a more interesting way

You mean like orgies or just great view from the window behind the bed or something?

Order a third sensor or you can't do anything with it.

why does no one talk about the pimax 8k vr?

My friend has an Oculus and after I tried his I was thoroughly amazed with VR and bought a cheap cardboard. It's shit. I don't think cardboard (or other cheapo smartphone VR) should even be thought of as the same category of proper VR headsets.

>Do you have or plan to buy a VR headset?
No. I've tried them several times. They're neat, but not worth it in my opinion because they don't fit over my glasses well.

got an oculus over the summer. haven't used it since october

>Do you have or plan to buy a VR headset?

I only have a google cardboard 2.0. I'm waiting for Xiaomi to make something similar to google daydream, with IPD adjustment at least.

VR has gotten cheaper, but people have way too high of an expectation for VR.

>I want 4k per eye and will work on my shitbox of a computer
>I want a wireless headset that is tiny and lightweight

This is still new technology. You can wait for next gen, but good luck waiting 2019 or later for the next gen, and next gen will probably be as expensive as what 1st gen used to be, so everyone will praise 1st gen and tell you not to get 2nd gen as it is too expensive. You can get PC VR as low as $250 bucks.

2nd gen is probably not going to be inexpensive and even if it is, you'll have to wait a couple of years.

VR is great, but you need a good computer to be able to use it. Don't complain if you have a shitty computer. I don't see the point in waiting for 2nd gen, because we don't know if it will even be cheap. Don't expect PC VR to be 100 bucks, ever.

I agree, you can get by with the 2 sensors, but I felt that a 3rd sensor was essential for room scale.

Sometime in the next year I'm definitely getting a vive. I want to start developing games for VR.

Good choice. Prices will probably go down, but why not the Oculus Rift? They cost $399 with motion controllers instead $599 for the VIVE. Also, a majority of games will work on both systems.

windows mr headsets seem decent, at least if you're in US as you can get one at 200$ and the experience is on par with vive/oculus

Also, they are basically plug and play. They are inexpensive. Why can't people understand that VR is now inexpensive? Get a mixed reality or some shit. Oculus Rift is even inexpensive at $399. If you want the cheapest priced VR set, get a Mixed Reality. Try to not get one with a LCD screen, get one with a OLED.

>I'll wait until next gen
>2nd gen comes around
>I'll wait until next gen

VR will probably never run on a shitty rig and it will probably be a long time before you start getting VR headsets that are tiny and wireless.

1st gen is cheap. You can buy one for a decent PC at $299

Brother bought a Oculus rift for me , $350 with the complete package controllers and sensor

I never thought about getting a VR but after trying the rift I will most likely get the new vive when it comes out

It reaches a point where I wished games used VR simply as a camera option a little like Rez and most PSVR games

If you want to wait for next gen, you'll probably have to wait until 2019. Oculus said they will probably release their next headset in 2019

If you want good then wait til next gen and spend the money.

If you want a cheap way to have a bit of fun then the Gear VR isn't bad for what it is.

I have an Oculus, and am loving it, especially with the new dash.
>facebook software
I backed it before facebook bought the company

Currently saving up for the Magic Leap

I'm more familiar with the vive (my brother has had one for over a year that we have been fiddling with on and off), and I have more than enough play space to accommodate the lighthouses, where iirc the Oculus isn't that good with 360 tracking without some additional things. I'll look more into my options as I get closer to choosing. There was also one I saw some promos for up in Canada that looks like a hammerhead shark. Looks neat, but severely impractical for the game I want to make which will involve a lot of rapid movement.

I have a Vive (objectively the best VR headset available) and it's pretty great. The only real problems are the space it needs, the lack of good games, and how mother fucking hot it gets playing VR games. It's winter and I have to play my VR games totally naked and with the windows open.

Avoid the Facebook Rift like the plague.
>Shitty inferior hardware
>Locked down walled garden
>Have to install their shitty Facebook software
>Cameras staring at you all day recording your activity and uploading it to Facebook servers
>Requires a shit ton of USB ports and wires going all over the place
>Bad tracking and bad room scale performance
>Anti-consumer practices

>comes with an xbox controller out of the box

I bought one when the price dropped like 7-8 months ago. It was returned within 48 hours because it was such a sloppy mess. Worst of all, I was forced to use the xbox controller to navigate everything instead of mouse and keyboard. Is there any VR/MR headset where I can just sit at my computer like normal and enjoy virtual desktops and gaymen in 3D? Bonus if it doesn't require wangblows 10

Troll. If you knew anything, the Rift uses motion controls.

A friend of mine has suggested I could borrow an oculus rift for a month to try out.

I'd love one, but I look at the choice of GPUs and they all seem really expensive. It's a shitty selection right now.

what does the leap allow?

Is it a specific version, I have the original Leap motion that they first launched, can that be used?

Get a gtx-970 if you can afford one. Also, you need a cpu that supports sse 4.1. I ended up getting a new motherboard, ram, cpu, since my old motherboard only supported old cpus, but my GPU was fine since it is a gtx 970.

Magic leap is not even the same company or product as leap motion.

Waiting on Ryzen+ update to upgrade CPU side. Currently on an i7 920.

Phone VR is literal trash. You're fucking splitting your phone's already shitty display in half. How the fuck do you expect to enjoy porn, when you can literally see the pixels.

People need to think of VR now as a flight stick/steering wheel. It's a peripheral for select games and may or may not make the experience better.

It enhances your experience and if you want that, go for it.

SteamVR desktop theater mode lol use rift or something

I've had a Vive since launch

It's truly incredible technology.

SUPERHOT VR is one of the best gaming experiences of my life.

I don't use it much anymore, maybe once a week, but that doesn't mean it's bad. It's just early.

VR has a bright future, but it will take a good 5-10 years. It will get good when mobile phone VR is as good as Vive is now.

seriously, those are super cheap, have twice the resolution of vive/rift, and will have official steam compatibility
why aren't these the best alternative at the moment?

see, I sold the Vive after a week of having it on launch... I was crazy disappointed.
I'd had the Oculus Dev2 for almost two years prior to it and couldn't believe that in all that time the improvements where marginal at best.. plus how heavy the Vive was, all the cables across the room, the headset sitting hard on the front of the face...

I bought the Oculus after.. was better SIMPLY cause of the comfort desu.. but i was still disappointed in the improvement over the devkit.
Ended up selling it about 5-6 months ago from no use, just before they started bulking in the new handsets..

I've tried the lenovo? i think it was, Microsoft VR in the shop.. that is actually the most comfy VR experience so far desu; and the improved resoloution is instantly noticeable..

Would i recommend one? nope, the resolution is just too bad imo.. some people say after a while you don't notice but in flight sims, when you can't make out the buttons.. i beg to differ

This right here. How the thread went so long with all these folks recommending the rift is beyond me.

Gonna get a cheap plastic headset and use it with either Trinus or Riftcat to play some desktop VR games. Is Trinus or Riftcat better?

ITT: People who either don't have PC's strong enough to use a VR, or people who have never even tried an oculus lol

found the Oculus shill. and SteamVR theater doesn't project in 3D

i had a DK2, the CV1 is absolute shit. the vive is better.

Sure, I might do that but not before I try this shit out with what's in the box. I don't even know what it's like yet.

>I bought the Oculus after.. was better SIMPLY cause of the comfort desu.. but i was still disappointed in the improvement over the devkit.

Not sure if you still have access to it, but the deluxe strap pretty much fixed that problem

cardboard kinda really sucks
it's neat if you're desperate (managed to wow me back when I was still using my S3 right before I got an S7), but there's just too many problems (most notably drift -- you basically need a swivel chair, but there's also the fact that cardboard viewers are all just cheap junk, plus you're never going to manage to get scale feeling right in anything, and the awful fov on just about every set will make you hate yourself)

the gearvr still kinda sucks, although it's absurdly better than any cardboard anything
actually though, my issue has just been software
for just watching 360 videos, it's ace

Both Virtual Desktop and Bigscreen work with the Vive and Rift and both have SBS 3D mode. You will usually need additional software to actually get the games to run in 3D though. ReShade with Depth3D is free but it only uses the depth buffer and not geometry 3D.

>plastic
>cardboard
que

What's the minimum pixel density you need for a phone to be decent VR head set?

That armpit hair....

Do you really need OLED screen for VR?

>Do you have or plan to buy a VR headset?
I have a rift for about a month
>Are you using it often if yes then what are you using it for?
Mostly games, sometimes netflix
>Would you recommend someone to buy one?
Yes 110%, if you own a decent computer. It ruins 2d gaming forever though.
>Any good apps for watching movies (porn) on Google cardboard?
Nope

H I G H T E S T

I bought the Rift + Touch bundle for Black Friday, haven't tried Vive yet but I want to.
>Are you using it often
Only 2-3 days a week. Being a full-time wageslave leaves me a bit lazy once I'm home.
>what are you using it for?
Mostly VRchat and Assetto Corsa. Most of the content available is fucking garbage - just a bunch of overpriced, short tech demos and walking simulators. I'd use it more if there were better games and stuff available that aren't shit. Unfortunately American Truck Simulator / Euro Truck Simulator has been a little bit of a bitch to play in VR as support for it is still in beta, at least the devs are working on it. Assetto Corsa is kind of shit; force feedback is fucking bizarre and I guess requires third-party software to correct so I don't play or enjoy it as much as I'd like, and that's not VR's fault. Don't have a handbrake controller yet either otherwise I'd try Dirt Rally again with my Logitech G29 wheel.
>Would you recommend
Not really. After my friend let me play Assetto Corsa and try out Robo Recall on his Rift, I had to get it for myself despite knowing the majority of available VR content is shit and the hand controls will be vastly superior in a couple years or so. The current tech is good but it won't take long to become outdated. Don't know if Vive has a bunch of tracking issues but my Rift sensors are pieces of shit that keep fucking up every 5-30 minutes, constantly being disconnected and needing reconnected to function again. It's a real hassle and that alone is why I think I might return it and wait for the next generation to come out along with actual games/film.

Also wearing glasses fucking sucks on Rift and I heard it's not much better on Vive. If you have big stupid hipster glasses or wear military issue birth control goggles then you're fucked. My glasses have to be squeezed in and it's always a pain in the ass to adjust every time I put my headset on, which further dissuades me from using it.

This. Wait for Applel to make their own VR device, and see how they saved the technology, kind of like what they are doing with AR.

Google Gaydream

Since it is so cheap, just get a cardboard if you have a supported phone and see for yourself.

I can recommend full feature room scale VR.
I use my Vive almost daily for a bunch of months now.
It is very expensive and you need a lot of permanently available open room for it.
I can understand that if someone blasts his last money into a VR rig he could be disappointed but I like VR a lot and think its worth the expense.
Regular games just seem so boring and outdated once you've experienced full feature VR.
The social stuff like Rec Room is a lot of fun too.
A lot of proper games came out recently for VR including a real mmo everyone seems to love.
Just test it somewhere and see if this is for you.

Inside out tracking is still shitty compared to vives lighthouse tracking.
Biggest issue is still software and not hardware. "2nd gen" isn't going to be a revolution, just a bit better.
I think its very interesting to see how consoles become relevant again because of VR. Good solution for normalfags.

>haven't tried Vive yet but I want to.
HMD hardware is basically identical, Vive just has better tracking. Roomscale on a large tracking area works great and I really never have tracking issues.

>Also wearing glasses fucking sucks on Rift
Hows your vision? I have -2.75 -1.5 and I use it perfectly fine without glasses.
My fat hipster glasses just fit inside the Vive but its not that comfy. Others with normal glasses don't have any problems.

>you need a good computer to be able to use it

according to some MS study, foveated rendering can decrease to 1/8 the GPU work for current gen (1 megapixel) screens, and they expect bigger gains at higher resolutions

this means, next gen vr could have at least 8 MP (=4K) per eye, while keeping the same hardware requirements or even REDUCE hardware requirements.

pretty sure both xb1x and ps4 will have next gen vr at some point.

Oculus is fine, tho I prefer vive. The difference is negligible.

>I don't see too much I'd really want to do with it,
GalGun VR
Serious Sam VR
Fallout 4 VR (fully modable)
Elite Dangerous for your space trucking simulator fix
VR Dragon sex simulator coming soon

And don't forget 3d porn videos and Honey Select

Resolution is still too low so I tend to fap at my computer still. Tho I enjoy the vive for interactive story based porn. They type you just kind of edge off of for an hour or so.

Currently the only thing worth getting is the Vive or Oculus, and there either is fine.

-1.50, -1.25, 020
-1.25, -0.75, 158
I could probably get used to not wearing them in VR but screw that. I could've sworn Rift had the better tracking... I dunno. Had tracking issues until I bought a third sensor - granted, however, my sensors aren't parallel and in ideal locations. There was a blind spot when I turned my head 135 degrees, but not anymore with the third, rearward sensor.

Still on the fence about returning it though because the sensors keep losing connection and it's not like they're fucking wireless, FFS... slowly getting tired of hearing Windows detecting the sensors reconnecting to the USB ports a dozen or more times a day. On top of that, the fucking things shit errors and stop tracking - every single time I boot up my computer, one or two of the sensors won't work and have to be reconnected, one of them almost always throws an error and either of the other two will quit too. Seems to be completely random. They'll usually fuck up again seconds later, sometimes minutes later, but rarely interfere with gameplay. Not sure if my motherboard may be at fault or not with that. So yeah, I'm most likely going to return it, but I doubt Vive is going to drop in price anytime soon, and despite being annoying as fuck and hating Zuck's guts, it's still bearable enough, for now. Buying Vive would've been a no-brainer if I hadn't lost so much respect for Valve.

IIRC, Oculus states ideal room scale size is 5'x7'. I'm at 5.5'x7.5' with another 17 square feet of space outside the perimeter of the box, which I can barely reach due to the HMD's cable length.

Oh yeah, forgot I also am experiencing audio issues through the HMD now lmao, fuck this shit.

Unless the sale ended, winter sale, you could pick up the Vive + delux audio strap + fallout4 + $50 steam gift card + free shipping for $600 from the htc store. Tho you have to pay tax so your final cost is $650.

When gen 2 comes out the advice for people with a shitty rig would be to run gen 1 vr headsets. I expect the used market to still be there.

>Currently saving up for the Magic Leap
Magic leap will be amazing if it ever releases. But I don't think it really competes with standard VR. It is AR which is designed for different uses.

>when you can literally see the pixels.
I agree that phone VR is worse VR, but in all current gen VR you see the pixels.

The best way to describe it is playing a PS3 game on an old CRT TV, except everything is in 3D.

VR for games is DOA. There's no good control method for actual games, and no good games.

>GalGun VR
Minigame-tier
>Serious Sam VR
>Fallout 4 VR (fully modable)
Motion sickness inducing version of the same old (bad)game

>Elite Dangerous
The perfect game for VR, but it is still truck simulator 3017

>VR Dragon sex simulator coming soon
I don't care about porn.

That'd be great for both VR and normal gaming, but it needs accurate eye tracking which is.... not that simple

The future is now!

Why would I want a girlfriend with high test?

Sale is still going on, but I have my money tied up in investments and school to worry about, otherwise I would.

You think there will ever be VR E-sports?
