Took my first speed test ever. Can muh internets speed REALLY be this god awful? I dont pay the internet bills, nothing I can really do except move out at this point.

connecting via ethernet cable.

80mbps isn't terrible.

Good enough for 2-3 4k netflix streams.

...

Uhh, you wanna swap? I have a nice speedy 50/15.

>symmetrical connection
Why the fuck are you complaining

for example, if I wanted to get a wireless card to get rid of the cable, the new ones get easily 1300Mbps. However, I get 82. Eighty two. What the fucking fuck?

what did you mean by this?

I know right? Im in the UK also and every isp has ridiculous upload speeds (even if download speeds are excellent)

At least my connection back in the uni halls is quite sensible, 100/100.

I'd be willing to live with 150/50

user are you fucking retarded? Router speed != Internet speed.

If you're getting 82mbps over ethernet you'll get the same or less on wifi.

Just because the wifi connection is 1300mbps doesnt mean that's the actual real world throughput. In actuality that 1300mbps number is 450mbps 2.4Ghz throughput + 867mbps 5Ghz throughput. and in practice, that 5Ghz signal will get about 50% of the link speed so around 400mbps.

But all of that wont matter if your WAN speed is only 82mbps, since 82mbps is below 400mbps.

On ethernet i get 800-900mbps, with wifi I get 400-500mbps (using a 2x2 access point and 2x2 client device)

>potential router speed=internet speed
Actually retard tier. Please lurk moar or go back to

my math adds up - like confirmed

Looks like I can save on a wireless pci card now by getting a cheapie

Nigger I didn't confirm shit, if you actually understood what I said I'm telling you wifi wouldn't do a god damn thing.

The only thing wifi will do is add latency.

It doesn't matter how fast your local wireless network is if your WAN connection is 82 mbps.

You can have a 4x4 access point capable of pushing over 1.2Gbps over wifi and you'll still never break 82mbps if that's the speeds you're getting to the actual internet.

i dont care about latency, im just downloading porn and shit

what wifi adapter card should i get then, 300 mb or 600 mb?

>Wireless N speed up to 300Mbps makes it ideal for video streaming, online gaming and Internet calls

stop complaining faggot, the best thing i have where i live is 4/0.5. even fucking 4g is better, if not by the huge latency.

>Wireless N speed up to 300Mbps
kek you fucking retard.

That's 2.4Ghz 802.11N which came out in 2009.

You literally just bought 8-9 year old wifi tech.

And you'll NEVER see 300mbps in practice, at 2 feet without any interference you MIGHT see 150mbps. But again, since you have fucking 82mbps WAN connection, it literally doesn't matter if it's 100mbps, 150mbps, or 100000mbps wifi.

>82
>terrible
nigger im running on 5down .4up shut your fucking mouth

so you're saying to pull the trigger on the cheapest wifi card i can get with good reviews then? I havent bought shit yet

If all you're concerned about is throughput and you're in the same room. Sure.

If you're dealing with obstructions, or large distances. Ethernet is cheaper and better.

im not in the same room, im one room over. I already have a shit ton of wires in here, its terrible

er, you have no idea what youre talking about man. lol.

well 80mbps isn't that hard to achieve on wifi. Assuming your router isn't garbage and your don't have a ton of RF interference, it should be simple.

These are all wifi speedtests taken using a $75 access point and a 2x2 client device.

>These are all wifi speedtests taken using a $75 access point and a 2x2 client device.

what did you mean by this

exactly what I said.

2x2 client device is a device with 2 wifi radios.

The $75 access point is a 2x2 access point. Specifically a Unifi Ap-AC Lite.

Higher end routers will be 3x3 or 4x4. As well you can get higher end client devices with 3x3 or 4x4 wifi cards, though those are generally reserved for high end laptops (macbook pro tier), or PCIe/USB wifi cards with 3x3/4x4 radios and they tend to be expensive.

That being said, I have seen 900mbps throughput over 5Ghz wifi using a 4x4 access point and a macbook pro. You're just paying out the ass to achieve those sorts of speeds.

That is fast, stop being a ponce.

You know someone is an entitled millenial when they whinge about an 80/80 package.

>What shitty bait, wonder how the thread's going...
>Oh everyone's taking it seriously.

>tfw you get 7/0.6

hold me Sup Forums

...

Uhh, you wanna swap? I have a nice speedy 5/0.8

I have 1.9/0.8 here.
I legit use 4G to download stuff that's over 2gbs in size. Here's dad's phone being used as a router. He has a 300gb cap so it's pretty good.
