GNU/Icecat

Hiya Sup Forums, literally why have you not taken the icecat pill yet? Why are you using bloated, botneted firefox or chrome?
>muh addons
all addons that are available for firefox are availble for icecat.
if you care about your privacy this is truly your only option

Measure light pulses in your fiber cable.

kek meant to say GPL not GNU

t. brainlet

>hehe you so paranoid heheh XDD Measure le light pulses in your fiber cable. XDDD

>using MIT nigger licensed software instead of GNU licensed software
GNU Licensed software > GPL

Well that's kind of true since GPL can still contain botnet but Saint IGNUcius, peace be upon him, doesn't allow any botnet in GNU software

RIP

I tried to but I couldn't figure out how to compile it and it's not in the debian repos

I tried the android one
Holy shit that is slow

I have no expiernce with it, i use firefox foxus on adroid nd it works fine

lmao there's literally intructions on their website on how to install i think

I did but it wasn't working

kek

>literally why
t. millennial

What are icecat's plans for when ESR goes to FF57? There's no point in me using it if it's gonna end sometime this year. Also how do updates work with icecat? Will I have to delete and reinstall browser everytime?

Wait let me try it again I'll show you the error message

t. insecure 16 year old brainlet who thinks he's intellectually superior because he doesn't use "le millenial words" but is just a massive fag that most likely owns an instagram memepage where he makes fun of normies because he was severly bullied for being a fucking retard hence is why you're making fun off them, pathetic.

so far i've been gettign automatic updates with no reinstallation required

Let's Play: How many buzzwords can you fit in one rant!

mozbuild.frontend.reader.BuildReaderError:
==============================
ERROR PROCESSING MOZBUILD FILE
==============================

The error occurred while processing the following file:

/home/user/Downloads/icecat-52.3.0/moz.build

The underlying problem is we referenced a path that does not exist. That path is:

/home/user/Downloads/icecat-52.3.0/browser/branding/unofficial/moz.build

Either create the file if it needs to exist or do not reference it.

What do

Do you have a ppa though or did you build it?

download the fucking tar.bz2 and unpack it.

See: And what do you mean unpack it? Is there an executable that you can run without building it? Because I can't seem to find it.

>Official releases of IceCat are available from ftp.gnu.org, or any GNU mirror. Please use a mirror if possible. Besides the sources, binary releases for GNU/Linux (32 and 64 bit) are available.
ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gnuzilla/52.3.0/icecat-52.3.0.en-US.linux-i686.tar.bz2
ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gnuzilla/52.3.0/icecat-52.3.0.en-US.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2

These are both binary releases, compiled by the icecat devs. I used them on debian oldstable, sid, gentoo and opensuse TW just fine.

Oh, thanks dude. I was using the version without one of those labels. Probably a newb question but do I use i686 or x86_64 for a 64 bit system?

I tried to compile it for Windows with cygwin but failed. I have version for Android but this trash can't even open my router's management page.

i686 = 32bit
x86-64 = 64bit

the x86_64. At this time and age you have no reason to run the 32bit version.

I think you need microbenis VC compiler for v52, guess this is why GNU stopped providing win32 binaries.

Still doesn't help with the fact libre js is worse than js disabled

I might change from Ungoogled-chromium to iceCat when 57 get released...

Thanks. It works.

webkit is objectively superior

here is your (You) kid, don't spend it in the iTunes store all once.

Why do you people only run one browser and think swapping between several to learn about their pros and cons takes actual effort?

Sup Forums is a tech board, not tard support.

i like quantum, and ff in general. But the since IceCat is follow the ESR branch, im still waiting them to update. I would like to use FF instead, but mozilla fucked up andi not support them anymore.

what makes it so good comparatively to firefox?
t. brainlet

Not run by Mozilla, GPL licence, comes with privacy addons, no telemetry

It's still under Mozilla Public License (MPL).

how easy is it to install icecat on a Mint system (I'm not compiling shit; and no I'm not going to install a PPA from some random guy who barely has the chance to update it). Also, it needs to be close to upstream (as upstream is stable). I do not want to run the ESR or whatever the fuck they call it.

Oh my bad then.

Well Icecat is the ESR so

yea, garbage. Quantum, e10s, and web extensions are just too amazing to use icecat.

the latest update broke all the useful extensions like vimperator, THAT'S garbage

^

uBlock, https everywhere, privacy badger, decentraleyes all work just fine for me.

Also, added bonus; they use less memory and are better sandboxed.

Also, if your addons that you use arent updated, that's a sign that they are more or less abandonware; you shouldnt be using them anyways.

Should I keep Spyblock if I have uMatrix?

how can I use that on ubungĂș?

All things that Icecat will have in May or so.

Fucking phone posters

There are no updates for macOS unfortunately, but yes, GNU+IceCat is the best browser choice.

The nag bar about nonfree JavaScript on android is infuriating

Too bad it doesn't work with Tree Style Tabs yet because webextensions

LOL the new extension API broke well maintained add ons like vimperator and keysnail. Don't talk about shit you know nothing about

qupzilla is better

tried it, but many websites just crash all my tabs constantly
i make enough sacrifices using linux already
i just want something that is usable and blocks ads, trying out vivaldi currently
