Well it finally happened

My nexus 5x bit the dust after almost two years of usage. It may be time for something else. I'm pretty disappointed it died seemingly out of nowhere. Google support won't do shit for me since it doesn't have a warranty.

Ebay has 5x for about 150-200 or pixel 1 for about twice that. Has anyone gone from 5x to pixel? Or just had the pixel?

Went from a nexus 6p to the pixel 2 xl.

Nexus 6p had some wifi problems while customer support gave me the middle finger.

Do we know yet why they die?
Is it because the solder under the SoC cracks, or the interposer in the SoC cracks?
If the first, it should be simple enough to fix it by reflowing the solder.

I've looked into the pixel 2 but
>no headphone jack
I might buy a Pixel 1. Support has basically been giving me the finger with past issues with the 5x including its final death now.

order a new battery and install it

They told me they'd take it in for a 100$ defect phone discount credit. They told me the Moto x4 also has a 75$ off discount. 324$ for a Moto x4, but that's about what I'd pay for a new pixel 1 from ebay.

Wireless earphones my boi. More phones are moving to no headphone jacks, its time to buy some

I've had issues with the ear speaker as well. If this thing has finally stopped turning on I think I'll just look for a replacement that still works with project fi.

I don't like that. That stuff is going to be expensive as I run with my phone and earphones always wear out after a few months of sweat. The ones I use sound good enough and are like 10$ (Meelectronics m6). I would rather have my normal earphones.

>wear out after a few months of sweat
What exactly wears out?
Good wireless headphones are made of plastics and rubbers with don't degrade from sweat.

The pixel 2 xl does have one of those adapters that connect to the power input which connects to the headphone jack.

The earphones. They rubber starts cracking and splitting and the earphones do that thing wear it works if you bend it in just the right way and hold it. I don't want to deal with expensive things bullshitting out on me. 10$ is plenty for decent sounding earphones.

I had a Nexus 6P, but i just replaced it with my old iPhone for now.

The battery was getting to the point where i had to charge it 2-3 times a day, and I use it for work so that is just not ideal.

I looked into the pixel 2 but I am not really a big fan of it for some reason.

>new ear speaker
>$5 free shipping
>new oem battery
>$10

user, it will take $15 and MAYBE an hour
prove to yourself you belong in Sup Forums

You can buy replacement rubber.

Check out some JayBird headphones. They're really highly rated and sweat resistant.

My gf got some and she is very happy with them.

What is an SoC? I'd be willing to take it apart and fuck with solder, but I'm out of state right now so this bitch died at a pretty shitty time.

>claims to know how to microsolder
>doesnt know what an soc is

System on Chip.
It's the CPU, GPU, and all sorts of stuff you need to make a phone work. It's the biggest chip on the board.
LG phones of that time were all known for the same problem where they just die out of nowhere.
You'll probably need a good SMD station to do it properly, but it can be done. Some electronics repair shops will be able to give it a go.

!!!!
I redid some solder on my instrument cluster in my car to fix the gear selector LED, this shouldn't be too much worse. I clicked the links but didn't see anything about the price other than 16.99 for some iPhone kit. I'll look for the parts on Ebay.

piggybacking this bread
what's a mid-range priced phone with good build quality and vulkan support?

I can also just buy replacement earphones for 10$ lol. I currently have three pairs to keep me covered for the next 2+ years.

I don't know how to fix things unless I have a tutorial to follow. I'm not a hardware guy, but I can follow instructions.

I have a shitty 15$ soldering iron with some pointy tweezers. If I can fix it with those I'll give it a shot.

>vulkan support
Any phone that can run android 7.0 or higher mandatorily has Vulkan support.
Moto G series is still good.

no soldering required

>shitty 15$ soldering iron
No. You need hot air at a consistent temperature and air flow.

YOU ARE A GOD AMONG MEN.

My sister's 5X died three weeks ago.

I think all the 5Xs are dying.

Let's clear this up.
Why is the phone dead?

all i did was search ebay

>using as normal
>freezes for a couple seconds
>turns black
>power button non responsive
>power button + volume down non responsive
>finally get it to turn on into "fastboot mode" with volume down + power button
>select start device and hit power button
>it starts to boot
>FUCK YES
>gets to "Google" on the screen
>black
>no response
>can't get it to do it again even when plugged into a wall

Sounds like a classic 5X death.
A new battery will not fix this. You'll need a whole new mainboard, or attempt and SoC fix.

A Sup Forumsod among men.

That's what I've been reading. Others have said a new battery wouldn't fix it either, but I got excited and was willing to give it a go.
So it's probably just dead and gone at this point.

There are stories about people replacing the SoC chip and having it work, but those were all done in Chine.

My nexus 5x got the boot loop a couple months back. Traded it in to jewggle for a discount on a motto 4x which is . Had second thoughts on possibly getting a pixel but decided to just save up and get a high end tablet instead as I mostly used my phone in the house anyways. 5x and 6p's are fundementally flawed and ticking boot loop time bombs, better off moving on.

I'm waiting for mine to die. Had it for a year now, but it was one of the very last production runs, so they may have fixed the manufacturing process for it.

>Traded it in to jewggle for a discount on a motto 4x which is .
Which is what?
They offered that to me too for 324$ so I'll research and consider it, but haven't done any research into phones since I bought my 5x almost two years ago so I don't know anything about what's out now.

Moto X4's processor is slower than 5X's.

LOL I've taxed my 5x and I don't even game. I'm not downgrading.

FUCK. Okay so I guess my options are a pixel 1 or 2 or even another 5x for 150$.

I have a nexus 6p that's in the process of dying

just don't get a google phone, they're just gonna give you the finger when it inevitably bites the dust in a year and you're out of warranty

I had a Pixel but upgraded to the note 8 recently.
Pixel was nice, no real complaints

It's the 5X and 6P that have problems.
All the other google phones have been great.

I don't know what else to get since I'm on project fi. I see the google store has Pixel 1 XL still available and they said they'd give me a 100$ trade in for my fucked 5x. Maybe I could just bite the bullet and get a Pixel XL. Not the 2 it's too god damn expensive. Even with my trade in the Pixel XL looks like it'll come to 600$. This already feels fucking excessive.

I'm starting to embrace this more and more.

My HTC 10 has a headphone jack but I'm strongly considering buying USB C earbuds.

>Nexus 5X dies
>call Google for support
>"It's past our warranty, but you might still have warranty left with LG. Let me connect you to LG."
>LG rep: "This phone was bought in the United States, we can't service this in Canada."
>but I bought this phone from Google Canada Store
>LG rep: "Google then sold phones for U.S. market in other countries without telling us. Your phone is grey market and don't have Canadian warranty
>call Google back
>"Google rep, can you verify this? Did Google really sell me phone that can't get warranty here like some shitty Jew camera dealer importing Canons from Hong Kong illegally?"
>"Not our problem, go get fucked. Click"

Google really is a cancer.

The only warranty problems I have seen are from people buying their phones directly from google.
Buying from brick and mortar is always more reliable than buying online.

this just happened to me with a DJI Mavic.

They were running a promotion on motto 4x at launch. $200 trade in as long as your nexus could turn on (it could, for like 10 seconds) and a discount on preorders, spent only $100 on it.

Hence the tablet. Bearly even use my phone anymore. Though OP probably doesn't want to buy two devices I take it.

So Android phones just die for no reason?

FUCKING LOL

>Though OP probably doesn't want to buy two devices I take it.
Nope. Phone and laptop is enough for me.

>press iphone x screen with no sthrengt
>it clicks and stops responding

>forgets about 6S touch disease
>forgets about battery slowdown
>forgets about iOS bricking phones

To be fair nexus phones are literally just chink shit phones with a brand name slapped on top. They were fairly good bang for your buck at the time.

>chink shit phones
>LG
uhhh.

I had a nexus 5 before that which bootlooped after two years
A friend had a nexus 4 that died after two years
I bought a nexus 7 2012 which still works but it's basically unusable because they used cheap storage so it takes a whole minute to do anything
A friend bought a galaxy nexus and the storage on that got damaged real fast and then it just died
I bought a nexus S and that's still working, it's literally my backup phone so at least that one was good

Went 6p to XL 2.

Wish I had my 6p with this processor.

OnePlus 5t

>after almost two years of usage
>it died seemingly out of nowhere
>ALMOST TWO YEARS

NIGGER, are you on some kind of ckrack or something?
If my phone would die after NOT EVEN 2 YEARS, i would ragequit that company asap, and leaving all kind of bad reviews on sale sites for the newer models.
It is not normal for phones to die so early. My acer for 89€ form 2+ years ago is still running, even after dropping it hard enough to crack the screen.

Dont buy cuuckle.

yeh its fucked. i charge it every 2 hours and this is with general usage no games or bullshit.

>tfw still on Nexus 4

cracked the screen back in 2013 but got it fixed. The speaker is dying though but I do not really have use for it anyway.

Feel comfy my friend, it's smooth and fast as fuck,
Just buy a Nexus 4 for 30$, it unironically just werk and can do everything like a new one thousand phone. The only downside is the shitty camera.
Don't fall for the consumerism meme.

>Just buy a Nexus 4 for 30$
fucking ebay asking me for 200$ + for a new one jesus christ

Buy OP5T OP.

Just buy OnePlus 5 or 5T.

Don’t get google garbage, get iphone or galaxy

Eww iPhone ugh. Fuck me.

> wireless

What's that between the earbuds?

I used my galaxy s5 for 3 years and it still worked perfectly, google phones are garbage

>Buying chink phones

What's so good about it? It's low price is giving me uncertainty

Have used the 3T since release date. The phone flies. Near stock android. Fantastic. Still can't find a reason to updgrade or complain about.

My 5X bit the dust just 2 days ago. I recently bought a new Huawei Honor 6X.does anyone reading this have any experience with this phone?

same here, been running on Chroma for quite some time. should I switch to Lineage?

also Nexus 4 is still the best looking phone. kinda wanted to upgrade but all new phones are either too big or justp lain ugly.
