So what is the Linux Distro that made you stop distrohopping?

never had an issue with it
Ubuntu.
fedora
I was using solus before fedora. The reason i switched is solus doesn't start up. it goes to a black screen with a blinking underscore. you have to shut it down and start it up again to get it to start.
solus doesn't let you install chromium. I don't even use chromium but the very fact that i can't install certain software makes me not wanna use it.
I couldn't install mplayer to get the sound to work for anki
Do you know anything about packaging ?
I'd like to use wayland with sway but sway is not packaged yet. I'll would like to learn about it
OSX
windows desu
Check the xorg logs senpai.
Mint
Ubuntu or so I thought until they decided to ditch Unity. Don't know what I'll move to once the 16.04 support cycle ends.
Arch
None, I'm still hopping. Already gone through
>Kali
>Xubuntu
>Lubuntu
>Solus
>Manjaro
>Antergos
Nothing but problems
whats wrong with manjaro ?
Just hopped in so if there's a major problem i would like to know so i can fuck off while i still can easely.
Debian.
If everything was "based on Debian" it means something. Every Debian derivative out there is just a customization and no one customizes my computer better than myself.
Ubuntu
Gentoo, unironically
Arch
Despite the memes, it really is the best I've found.
Sane minimalism, actually stable, best wiki by a loooong shot, AUR has fucking everything, pretty large userbase so you'll never run into usecase-specific bugs.
There's shit like Void and Alpine that are even more lightweight but at that point you're trading too much community for obscure distro e-peen.
Antergos on my TP and Fedora for my desktop.
Will replace Antergos with Arch if i experience a serious problem with it (e.g. failure to boot).
I need stability for Desktop, and I like to try things out in my TP.
I'm looking to make the jump from Parabola soon. I'm in a similar situation as
in that I pair my bspwm+sxhkd with lemonbar, which is not present.
Hmm solus looks nice
I only have 2gb ram though, would that be an issue?
I distrohopped like a mountain goat, until i finally landed on arch
i was happy with it at first, but using it for about a year made me really reconsider what i actually want from a linux distro, so i switched to ubuntu, but the current version was constantly giving me errors and random crashes, so i switched to fedora and it just worked. And so i found peace
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
Ubuntu.
antergos/arch
also gentoo unironically
Gentoo vs GuixSD
GO
Fedora.
Only distro that honestly feels like a work of professionalism rather than a product of hobbyists haphazardly slapping shit together and breaking or drastically changing things every year.
>fedora
>actually werking
yes, whats wrong with that?
i use different distros for different tasks
ubuntu on my desktop, arch on my laptop, debian on my server
there is no one perfect distro, thats fucking retarded and shows you just want to be some brainlet fan boy. use what works, not whats trendy. ive never in my life "distro hopped", ive only ever tried out LiveCD's other than i study the distro to see if it does what i want it to.
tldr youre a brainlet retard
Gentoo, over 10 years ago.
see this as an example of a brainlet retard. Trying Kali? did you not read up on that distro before trying!? its not meant to be run as a daily driver, its a platform for pentesting you absolute retard
Yea, Fedora works and dnf is a great deal less retarded than yum or apt(itude).
Interestingly, Gentoo. I was a Debian/Ubuntufag for a relatively long time, trying out different variations occasionally, in a dual boot setup or in a VM. I always got back to Windows, because there was nothing of interest keeping me in the Loonix world.
Then I tried Gentoo in a VM, I ended up using the VM for most of my tasks and not too long after I switched to bare metal. Now I run Gentoo on all my machines, including personal laptops, servers, and a prefix install on my phone and use it as my primary OS. I only have a Windows install on my desktop/server PC for muh occasional gaymes.
Arch. I love the AUR, and especially love how I don't have to add everyone and their grandma's PPA's to get the software I need. Also, the documentation speaks for itself.
what is this linux distro, it logo looks very interesting and also professional, i would learn to like about it more :)
GuixSD is fully free
Exactly.
CentOS for my 3D workstation.
Mint on my laptop.
Windows on the gaming desktop.
ikey pls go
This
Also Void on the netbook, where building an entire OS isn't an option
When does support end for 16.04?
Ok, so what is this GuixSD you guys keep talking about? What's so great about it?
2021.
Nope. It isn't installed on my machine yet, therefore it would cost me time and potentially a headache
Functional package management like Nix, but the configuration language is GNU Guile, a Scheme dialect.
For reals gentoo. Complete control over my system, best performance available, and when/if something breaks I can easily fix it myself. I used Arch for 6 months (still use it on my laptop) beforehand, but I wanted a more granular degree of control.
One of the issues I have with versioned distros is that documentation/packages change oftentimes depending on whatever version you're using. This means that if you have an issue and want to solve something, your google or forum searches are going to be cluttered up with results that do not help you out very much.
Void.
So why should I care about that? What is this Scheme?
Libre
This.
xubuntu
just werks
...
It's a Lisp dialect
A+ bait
Cent. Stable with a good community. Its lacks a lot of software but I just dont need anything it doesnt have.
So are all the configuration options done in a single language to make it easy to configure?
openSUSE
None yet. Send help.
well you just keep making one bad choice after another
solus is a meme and no one wants your botnet, OP
Package management, anyway.
the one you posted, kevin.
>The reason i switched is solus doesn't start up.
works on my machine
well it does now anyway. i had to start into terminal and install actual nvidia drivers because nouvoue a shit.
FUCK OFF KEVIN
Unironically windows 10. I can finally use my computer.
OpenSUSE is real neato
t. literal retard
..and you couldn't with 8.1 or 7?
I bet your web browser crashed 5 times before you were able to type that out. Stupid linuxfag.
(You)
Solus.
FreeBSD

Arch is basically Legos. Make whatever distro you want with it
> tfw haven't used Ubuntu since 8.something
Has time really gone that fast?
Debian
Ubuntu. It just works
Not him but I can already tell you that Arch and all derivatives have issues with printer drivers.
>AUR has fucking everything
Except good printer drivers. Fuck off
This
CLOVER

Debian.
...
How can anybody defend the AUR? Honestly?
The AUR is full of broken or poorly package software.
Never had issues with printer drivers in Arch. It was actually easier than Mint since I just went to the AUR and installed it, as opposed to finding the right .deb from the manufacturers website and looking up commands to get it to work.
I guess it depends on your printer though.
Kevin is back!
debian here, good support for older hardware
>The AUR is full of broken or poorly package software.
like?
you're supposed to read the script btw
it's a hobby fork maintained by a few people which apparently puts a face of professionalism(?) which is a huge disservice towards their users imho considering it's regular update ''bugs'' in the least
>>Lubuntu
try another release
1710 is awful (on the pc i tried it)
1604.3 werks normal
im not defending AUR
in fact i agree with you, AUR is just a shitty crutch for retards that flock to Arch. That's what any arch-guru will tell you.
arch/antergos, my firstt distro thanks to the Sup Forums memes, got too attached to the AUR and pacman, and every time I would hop it would normally end with me on antergos again until I did a proper arch install which would last for the next few months
Debian stable. Simply perfect. Since I'm too dumb for Exherbo.
Ubuntu
Debian
Arch
Gentoo
Funtoo
NixOS
The one and only. I don't care what you fags say.
This. Solus blew me away and I've been using it ever since.
Good choice. Debian stable, myself, Xfce. Works wonderfully.
install gentoo
that's literally every distro
Windows 7
Some distros provide smaller, more fine grained legos than others.
Or rather, Arch is a bucket of lego pieces, while most distros are themed lego sets
