Why don't you use VIM?

Why don't you use VIM?

>using linux
Mac is better.

i can't hop around my java source with it without building and maintaining a tags file

Because I use GNU Emacs, the text editor choice of professionals.

Because Emacs is way better.

why don't you use (n)vim on mac?

I've been using VIM for the past 6 months, primarily though because I haven't figured out how to exit it yet

spacemacs right?

Ergoemacs. Call the police, I don't give a fuck.

I'm used to editors that allow you to move between words using CTRL, HOME to jump to line start and SHIFT + END to select the line, CTRL+SPACE or CTRL+P for code completion, selecting the files in a Project Explorer environment with the ability to display the path.

>he has to type Up, End, Enter to insert a line above

Varg told me to stop. So I did.

Uhm... yeah what's so bad about that? Choose horizontal position, choose vertical position, perform action.

Sam is better than all your shitty autistic keyboard oriented slow editor

You can try to use eclim or a java language server

I'm a student right now and am putting in a decent amount of effort doing minimal linux installs, using CLI whenever possible, i3 rice, and learning VIM.
I really value what I've learned and taken away. Although I have constant doubt my efforts are useless, I can't deny that I have a better understanding of general linux intuition / feel for problem solving.
Its at a point where its getting in the way of actually programming, which is fine but I find myself concerned spending twice as much time locating dependencies / installing frameworks that were a couple of clicks on ubuntu.

No implementation of VIM can handle the file sizes.

It sounds like you're m aking things too hard for yourself mate. Besides using the CLI as much as possible, don't go minimal or rice, that would (mostly) be a waste of I used to resort to installing shit for myself at work because reasons, but it's a pain and doesn't make you better at things. At most it might help your understanding of some libraries and dependencies.
Let user friendliness be your friend and focus on getting job done.

use taglist

i've heard of eclim but never really looked into because i already have intellij but i'll give it a longer look because i like how lightweight vim is

that looks like it stopped being maintained 7 years ago so i doubt it will have kept up with the language

Taglist works for me. Good luck anyway.

>believing in rob pike's lies on mouse editing ``speed''

But I do use vim...

post you're startuptime
4408.625 000.008: --- VIM STARTED ---

all VIM needs is a decent way to extend it

I do use vim.:wIt's my favorite editor.

Because I got tired of it being so shit, and that's despite years of being used to it. The way it plays like shit with system buffers. The way even selecting things with the cursor in decent TU won't allow me to middle click to paste. It's not "lightweight", it's bare-bone, and adding any feature to it through plugins leads to a fuckton of bloat. Yeah, I'm talking about plugin managers. Notice I said "managers", because you'd be deluded to think a single manager will work with all the things you may need. Worse, if you need to move to another system, you're in for a lot of pain and someone who says "dude just bring your .vimrc with you" is so full of shit it's not even funny.
/usr/bin/vim now points to gedit on my system because I grew tired of getting bullshitted by vim while trying to quickly editing files. For programming I use VSCode. I know these have flaws, but at least they are manageable flaws.

>I use VSCode

Yeah, no kidding. Like another user said, you should focus on getting work done rather than thinking about how much Sup Forumscred the software you use might give you.

>not using O

i get more done with nano

I use vim-easytags. It automatically generates a tags file when you open/save a file. Also adds syntax highlighting. I had to work on a big C project last semester and it worked very well for me.

because I use emacs
Haha just kidding I use an IDE like any real programmer would

Because It's frustrating not being able to just use my mouse

You have done, well my son

But I do, OP.
