Linux

I just live installed Linux for the first time. I used Mint Cinnamon. Everything was fine. But Mint wasn't detecting my Wireless USB adapter. I'm using a D-Link DWA 131. Can anyone help me fix this. Or suggest a Distro with good hardware compatibility.

anything rolling e.g arch based distros manjaro is a good start for a new user

choose 1

Try manjaro.

And see

I've heard that Arch requires a lot of configuring. Does it have good hardware support?

manjaro is basically arch for dummies it has its own automated installer

and yes it does

Got it. Forgive me if this sounds stupid. But does the code used to configure stuff in arch also, apply to Manjaro?

mint

Anything arch is TERRIBLE for a new user, seriously just use ubuntu

Welcome to linux faggot
this is your life now, doesn't matter what distro you use

you can use the arch wiki all the same on any arch based distro be that manjaro or the many hundreds of arch forks

Even Manjaro?

Funny, the dell laptop I brought last year works ootb just fine with Linux. I use it for taking notes in uni all the time.

that is complete bullshit

No, Manjaro is nice.

Thenk fr warm welcom.

Just write a device driver. Simple as that.

its easy af to use even for a new user the big difference is not having software that is 2-5 years outdated

Okay great. I'll try it out on a live install :-)

Manjaro is ok. Arch would be better, you'd learn more, but it's fine.

The nice thing about Linux is, you can test a distro without even installing to see if the hardware is compatible. Try manjaro, pop_os, solus etc etc

Yeah yeah Ez pz stuff for a normie fag who has used Windows all his life. Good shit.

Arch niggers are funny.
Never show anything Arch to a new user.
Lubuntu/ ubuntu MATE /Xubuntu

>tfw when you want to use your brand new gpu but the kernel is so outdated your pc gets bricked

That's harsh =|

Okay thanks

I agree.

Lmao

You autists fail to realize that normies won't use the terminal. Ever!

Hey man. Which flavour of Manjaro should I use? I have a capable RIG.

Why not use Manjaro GNOME? I use it.

Ah okay. Is it customisable?

It is, to some extent. Try it out yourself, and ask questions in /fglt/. GNOME is not as customization friendly, it's just a "just works fine" desktop environment.

Fix that titlebar immediately

Got it. Thanks.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

>Distro with good hardware compatibility.
Manjaro or Ubuntu
also GNOME is shit, use a DE like Xfce

Ah okay. I have a 7th gen Intel I5, gtx 1050ti, and 8 gigs of DDR4 RAM. Will I be able to run the KDE Version of Manjaro buttery smooth?

>Nvidia
you're fucked. You can try though,

Why? They don't have drivers for Linux?

Nvidia's drivers are always hit or miss in Linux, as far as I have seen. Don't quote me on this though. I have always used AMD GPUs and had no issues with them.

This is because AMD open-sources their drivers and some of their driver codes are hard-coded into the Linux kernel.

Got it thanks.

Yes, surprisingly had no hardware issues with arch unlike ubuntu or debian
