Can a dirt cheap fm2+ build be enough for office 2016 and web browsing? It's for my parents and pcbg want me to buy ryzen. I'd so how much ram?

Is it possible to switch a file system on an external hard drive to ext4 or another Linux supported FS without losing all data on the drive? Or do I have to copy all the data somewhere else, format it, then copy it back?

I'm finally doing more with my life than jerking off to anime girls and the idea of getting my shit hacked is terrifying. Having all my work stolen from me or compromised in anyway is a terrifying prospect. What are some basic steps I can take to be more secure with my files than most people?

What's the deal with the dopey-looking white alien that get's posted here?

use a password manager. encrypt your porn folder. turn off wireless networking options on your devices (wifi, bluetooth) unless you specifically need them at that moment. give Tor a whirl.

What are the basic steps for removing something like this? I would rather just reinstall windows but it's a prebuilt without an installation disc.

Is my SSD corrupted?
userbenchmark.com/UserRun/6634419
Half the time it boots and is laggy until I restart or won't boot at all. Also no clue what's up with the CPU, I've reapplied thermal paste not too long ago, and the RAM is new. I formatted the SSD and installed a fresh version of Windows recently, which had no real effect.

Recommend an IPS monitor between 100 and 300 $, £ or €.

Will primarily be used for PhotoShop, Sony vegas, Windows, and some non-competitive gaming.

How do VeraCrypt volumes work? When does the encryption happen in the mounted volume? Every time I change its files? Why does the volume dismount instantly?

Get some cheap AM4 APU and B350 board, that would cost nearly the same as fm2 but upgradeable to Ryzen later.

The last OS Mac Pro 1,1 received was Lion, which debuted in 2011. Apple tightly couples Xcode with each release of macOS and the version you would be using would be very out of date and I don’t even think would support Swift.

I've been having a problem for a few moths with my computer shutting down whenever I do anything graphics-intensive. This also happens whenever I'm in a voice call on Discord.

At first I thought it was overheating, so I reapplied thermal paste to my CPU and GPU, and put them in a better case (I'd been meaning to do that anyway). While this did reduce the temperatures to acceptable levels, the issue kept happening.

I posted on /sqt/ before about this and someone suggested it might be damaged RAM, so I ran a RAM checker utility, and the results were that all of my RAM is fine.

It seems like it could be a problem with the GPU, but then why the Discord thing?

I'm at a complete loss here. I just want to use my compy like normal again. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

quick background info: i distro hopped a lot right before i install the fresh copy however i compeltely wiped the drive when installing windows. Yesterday i had to reinstall it too because it had a problem with winboot.exe which i couldnt fix, tried everything. So why is this happening? Is it just a bad image (DVD) of windows that im using?

inb4 install gnu/linux

You gotta copy all the data to a PC and later copy again

If dual booting, is it better to install windows or linux first?

I'm trying to reduce my ping in online games. I'm currently using a WiFi dongle since my computer and router are in separate rooms but was going to try to switch to a different connection style. What are my options here? I was debating whether or not I should get an ethernet wallplug. Will the wallplug cut it or would it be better to just get a 50ft long ethernet cable?

Just encrypt all your files with a Symmetric encryption like AES256 and that's it

What's the best way to keep 1TB of large files synced between one Linux and one Windows machine over lan?
BTsync (resilio or whatever) is botnet and fucks up permissions on files copied from windows to linux all the time.
Syncthing has mixed reviews, reportedly eats way too much cpu and memory and there's no native fs monitoring on windows.

Unironically Google Drive's local sync.

>apustaja
>reddit frog

I want your 'Files/Folders Synchronization' software recommendation for Windows. What do you use?
I want to sync some files / folders with a specific USB flash drive (not every USB flash drive that I plug in my PC). I'd like to keep track of every synced folder/file on a list and / or add a icon to the synced items like Dropbox does.

when will this mining crap hype crash?

I would buy powerline adapters from somewhere with a goood open box return policy and try them out first. They can work really well, but can also be really finicky.

>I want to sync some files / folders with a specific USB flash drive
use a briefcase

Alright, thanks!

Asked in the last thread and got no response.

The usb dac/amp i bought has static noise that is over everything i listen to. Even when nothing is playing.

How do i fix this?

That seems like a good plan. I'll give it a shot. Thanks user

>Linux

You send it back and tell them that they need to fix the faulty product they sent you.

if you have to, it's also possible to shuffle data on the same disk
that is, reduce the old volume size, make a new volume, move as much as you can across, reduce the old one again, move and resize the new volume, and repeat
this is very slow, and a bit more risky than just using another disk
i've done this before, it wasn't very fun, but it did the job... eventually
definitely use another disk if you can

Let me repeat myself:
Can a dirt cheap fm2+ build be enough for office 2016 and web browsing?

>Will the wallplug cut it
It will work, I'm sure. But it's shit.

>or would it be better to just get a 50ft long ethernet cable?
Of course it's better. Why do people bother with these powerline things? Is it so hard to run a cable?

i use syncthing, though only between linux and android, i don't use windows
i think synctrayzor (windows syncthing frontend) has fs monitoring, though it's not particularly lightweight

Are there any good password managers/auto fillers for palememe that aren't keepass?

Powerline adapters are really hit or miss depending on your house.
Even if they work as well as you could possibly expect they are still not going to give you a better latency than a direct lan connection though, so it really depends whether you are willing to take a minuscule hit for convenience.
Honestly speaking though modern wlan is already at a point where it's not THAT far off from a properly wired setup either, if you are having issues with your ping some other good options would be to do some traffic shaping through VPNs

one of them comes with sierra? wouldn't that solve the problem?

i don't see any reason why anything you can buy new won't be fine for office and basic web browsing (basic as in a few tabs of non-ridiculous websites)
as for ram, start with 4G, add another 4 if need be, or just start with 8 if it's not a budget issue, should be plenty for those uses for some time

when will ARM be used in PCs for a larger scale?
also
when will the ddr4 be cheaper
also
when will cpus start to have ram already inside them

>when will ARM be used in PCs for a larger scale?
ARM started out as a desktop cpu, you mean "when will ... again"
>when will the ddr4 be cheaper
never
>when will cpus start to have ram already inside them
probably a matter of time before they make things like cellphone SoCs with integrated ram
as for desktops/laptops, hopefully never

That was one of the things I did, actually.

The thing is the pentium is more than 10 years old already while the other one was released for a laptop in like 4 years ago. How can new technology be worse?

Are amd FX processors still strong on some specific task? are they still worth it for something?

even though it's half the speed, it uses over 16 times less power
it's a lot more efficient than the older cpu, and that's pretty important on a battery powered computer

Aw shit man. Because of money.

hey faggots, i need someone to do my homework for me in matlab. its really easy but i am dumb as a rock, so here's the problem:

a vectorial string (x) is given, i need the program to multiply the last positive digit of the string by 4. how do i do that lmao thanks

hey faggot, come back when your'e 18 lmao thanks

That's pathetically easy, what the fuck do you expect to get out of a course that uses matlab if you can't figure it out within 5 minutes of browsing the official documentation?

there's no documentation in my language and i know none of the english terms. im looking it up as we speak on the official site, no luck of finding anything that would look similar.

Don't call me a faggot

when making a basic, by-the-book Linux From Scratch install on a VM, what's the maximum disk space it would take up during the install process? Including things like byproducts of running test scripts, downloading and saving all the tarballs for each program source, intermediate tools, all of it. I'm using a Slackware full dvd iso install as the "host" upon which to build LFS. I'm asking so I can get an idea of just how much hard disk space to allocate to the VM.

i wouldn't go with less than ~4GB, most things don't need much space, but a few things (like linux and firefox) need a couple gigs while building them

OK I FUCKING DID IT AY

is there any way to make this more compact or improve on this?

Right, I figured that. Last time I tried, I ran out of space in the middle of compiling the cross-compiling toolset (not just the compiler) on a fixed-space VM with 20 GB. And this isn't even putting together the final system. Only thing I can think of that might do that would be running tests on each component I build leaving big-ass log files or something.

I know this is /sqt/, but holy shit. This is tech savvy family member 101. You fucking pirate Windows and burn it to a disc or make a bootable zip disquette.

Planning on combining all my storage drives into one massive volume. What drive letter should I assign it and what should I name the volume?

is this normal? why does it keep saying stalled? I'm using transmission

you could also just do it all in a chroot, that way you use the host filesystem and don't need to pick a disk size

because nobody else is uploading this file

>zip disquette

he's seeding, so it's because nobody is currently downloading that file

so that's supposed to happen?

oh ok, this makes more sense now

yes, nobody wants your shit man sorry

yes, seeding just means offering it for others to download from you
you can't 'force' seeding

alright lol
thanks, i see

What is the technological difference between a $1 Casio and a $30,000 Patek watch

I've got a rasperry for keeping accounting in our family in a little server, which distro should I use?

Right now I'm with a fedora workstation, but I'm struggling to set everything up and get the ERP ready and then try the connection to my family phones to feed the info to the rasperry.

If there is a more popular option for doing a server for a mini ERP in the rasperry I'd like to know.

Well user it’s a good article but surely there must be some technological difference to justify the cost? Is it really just for wanna be wealthy proles?

Lurk more. Or possibly this

I don't have a triple monitor setup where one is vertical for manga, and another is just my desktop feature a cute anime girl. But I want something like that anyway.

Is there a way I can superimpose a slightly transparent anime girl over all windows on my screen? I know there are programs that add a tiny dancing anime girl or something to the corner of your screen, but I was thinking.if I could make like the rightmost 30% of my screen a transparent anime grill I'd feel a little better about things. How may I do this? Could such a program be lightweight?

That's most fucking stupid way I have ever seen someone program, and I have taught programming at uni.

Fuck me you a dumb.

Sup Forums didn't give an answer for this so I thought I'd try here.

Is there a way to calibrate an XInput controller like how you can calibrate a DirectInput controller? My controller's left analog stick is reading as off-center, and if I use Windows's built-in calibration then it only affects games that use DirectInput. I know I can use something like Durazno to set a deadzone, but I want to actually recalibrate the center of the analog stick.

Let's suppose I want to learn IT by myself, from where should I begin with? Programming languages?

IT != programming. IT is managing and administering computer systems. If you want IT, learn some networking, some bash scripting, and some general server maintenance.

If you want to by a software developer, start by taking a udemy course or similar on a beginner programming language like python. They're only like $15 and can really get a complete beginner up to speed.

How do I root my LG G5 running 7.0 with the December 2017 security patch?

I wanna learn how to write bots. Guide me.

How do i fix this shit? I'm using a powerline adapter for my ethernet cable since im far from the router. It just loops, saying the cable was unplugged. Checked the wires and even swapped them out, so broken ethernet cords probably aren't the problem.
gyazo.com/dbc97c30ab35478b9cf2f69bbe74caed

That would certainly eliminate that issue, but I'm not confident enough to do it on bare metal yet. Still good advice, tho.

Search "thing you want to write a bot for" + API to start. A lot of services have a public API and often someone will have already written an API wrapped in your language of choice. Sometimes they're outdated though.

I set shutdown timers with the "create shortcut" option. I want to randomize a shutdown time between 2 hours and 3 hours for any second between 7200 and 10800. How can I do this?

With create shortcut I have to choose a static number and its tedious to randomly think of a number and edit the shortcut to accomodate a different time.

I don't know if you know any programming languages but (assuming you're using Windows) I'd just write a C# application for that, all it basically needs is this:

using System.Diagnostics;

void Main()
{
int time = new Random.Next(7200, 10800);
Process.Start("shutdown", $"-s -t {time}");
}

vai embora kellyposter

For now, yeah it looks like that would work, but Xcode could require High Sierra at any point and you'd have to figure out how to get it installed.

Should be
new Random().Next(...)

Is the Sansa Clip line the best portable music players at the price point?

im not sure what the fuck you just said but im not him

oh ok, sorry about that. it's just that there's an infamous dude on the brazillian/portuguese threads on Sup Forums that just posts pictures of that girl
