What software or plugins do you use to block ads? What filters do you recommend? Are there any sites you don't block ads?
I block all ads. I will also try and block anti ad-blocker popups.
Example: I went to Forbes for a random article >Forbes >site complained that I had a ad blocker >left the site >found out how to block that by adding a few links to a custom filter, nothing special, it is easy to do >browse the article with no ads
If you are against blocking ads, then why not at-least block malicious ads and scripts?
Most of Sup Forums has auto-blocked your thread because it contains advertising eg. the name Forbes.

uBlock Origin and uBlock extra, all the filters you can get your hands on. Also use https everywhere if you aren't already.
Leo Taylor
I've tried to keep a leaner filter list as of late, due to running into problems when having some redundant filters selected. It seemed to break sites and allow through ads, which annoyed me enough to cut back.
Currently I use all of the uBlock filters, EasyList, EasyPrivacy, Fanboy's Annoyance, Peter Lowe’s Ad and tracking server list, and Adblock Warning Removal List, I wish AAK-continued ha been maintained, but it got removed from uBO and now I can't find it anymore.
Also is there a way to block Twitch ads? This is what I allow through the site and I still get them, it depends though, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't,I think it may be a regional thing because I notice I get ads on streams in Europe but not American ones.
John Parker
I'm giving HTTPS Everywhere a try, but I found out that they use a whitelist instead of just forcing every site to use HTTPS
Logan Reed
Maybe it's because not all sites support https.
Brody Davis
I use Adhell2 Rootless adblocking using Knox.
Just requires a Knox SDK key and admin access.

FRIENDLY FUCKING REMINDER: UBLOCK DOES NOT BLOCK ADS, IT HIDE ADS
Carter Wilson
it does both you can block requests and also use rules to hide elements (not just ads)
Luis Parker
>go to forbes to read articles >not copypasting the link to archive.is lel
John Harris
guys help I cant post images
Adam Roberts
No one can. Sup Forums upload is down right now

My main source of adblocking occurs directly at the router by simple-adblock on LEDE via hosts file blocking. The best part is how this blocks ads on every device on the network rooted or not, when guests come over and use my wifi they suddenly have no ads showing on their devices anymore.
Matthew Hughes
I think I read on Reddit about a replacement for AAK. Google for Nano Defender. From what little testing I've done it seems to work so far.
No clue about twitch ads, I use gnome twitch or pocket casts and I've never seen a single ad on either one.
any way to block ads on twitch while using html5? flash blocks them just fine, html5 doesn't.
Brayden Taylor
>running a basic malware/adblock filter list on router >uBO for filter lists + manual filtering >uMatrix for broad content blocking like not allowing js >tick all lists in uBO and uMatrix

I switched from Adblock Plus to Ublock Origin once Element Hiding Helper stopped working with the latest ABP.
Aside from ads, I block: Most videos on news sites (especially ones that set position:fixed and keep playing when you try to scroll away from them). Anything that appears when you hover over usernames on forums. Youtube comments. Anything that appears over Youtube videos (annotations, links to other videos, embedded ads, etc.).
Daniel Walker
>Go to frequently-visited website >A new "Please disable your ad-blocker!" pop up message appears, and blocks out the page until the [x] is clicked >ugh.jpg >Leave website >Delete its bookmark >Add a block filter for the website in uBlock Origin
Sorry, but I don't support websites that do this anti-adblocker shit. Am I being autistic?
This one here is a few common ones combined. I figured it's lighter on the router instead of parsing multiple lists.
Robert Gray
I think it's not just you. Users at news aggregator sites like hackernews have pretty much stopped posting links to Forbes now because of their aggressive anti-adblock splash page thing. Joke's on them, that was probably a large portion of their traffic.
Jordan Brooks
I don't care about cookies
Caleb Hall
I only block ads if they annoy me by overlapping the content or opening popups/pop-unders. Is there a way to run ublock origin in blacklist mode?
Jose Foster
Just untick all the lists
Mason James
some shit that someone posted on github that is a list huge list of ad serving domains added to OS feels better than only having the standard browser extensions too lazy to look it up for you
Camden Robinson
pls explain the difference
Oliver Torres
False they block it read their fucking GitHub you fucking idiot it's Adblock plus that hides them
Landon Foster
>Sup Forums This is Sup Forums now, get with the times.
Luke Turner
If a site employs an adblocker-blocker, it says it doesn't want me. That's okay.
The only site I allow ads on is Youtube, since the ads are reasonable and they don't employ an adblocker-blocker, but external shit (e.g. doubleclick) remains blocked via NoScript.
Sebastian Carter
>Forbes
FUCK OFF AND DIE >FUCK OFF AND DIE FUCK OFF AND DIE >FUCK OFF AND DIE FUCK OFF AND DIE
>Peter Lowe’s Ad and tracking server list I stopped using this one because if I tried to Google something I wanted to guy and clocked on a store link it would always block it.
Hudson Brooks
>buy* >clicked*
Joseph Martinez
I stop using this as well last year since it started fucking up with sites I useually visit and images would be blocked.
Wyatt Parker
>The only site I allow ads on is Youtube, since the ads are reasonable are you serious ads in the middle of say watching something break concentration and are absolute fucking aids
I think the only ads I can ever accept are nontargeted ones in the very store I am visiting to provide information about some product that is on sale or some new product, and even then only really in food stores because ads for mass-produced electronic consumerist trash that you "throw away" after a few months is cancer as well
Eli Murphy
>giving more jewgold to piewdiepie and ecelebs who just read shit off of encyclopedia dramatica and other wikis.
Any maker with some competence has already made a patreon.

Hosts file and adguard dns
Carson Powell
Which is better, Privoxy or Hostsblock
Camden Evans
I keep getting this shit where Sup Forums's css keeps breaking with block their adds even though I have the stuff added to ublock that is supposed to add it back in. I keep having to refresh the page repeatedly to get the pages to load.
Noah Moore
For windows/Linux >install uMatrix >enable all filter lists, and all privacy settings from the dashboard >install ublock origin >enable all filter lists EXCEPT the same ones used by umatrix
For Android >root your phone >install adaway >use newpipe for youtube
Anyway, does anyone here have any experience with pihole? I've been thinking of setting it up ever since I heard about it, but I'm not sure how tedious the process is or how well it works.
Luis Campbell
Memed into pihole, not forcing it on whole home network just my own devices. Thanks to it I found my phone was making thousands of Google ad services requests and tracked it down to a certain app which was nice
Luke Brown
It's a single command on Debian (or raspbian) Then just a matter of making sure your hole has a static ip and setting it as your dns server either at router or per device level. Very easy and even a nigger could figure it out
Caleb Jenkins
First layer of defense is my firewall which uses a few lists. Then I use umatrix and ublock origin on my browser with scripts blocked by default and I allow only whats needed.
that's a terrible and uninformed advice, you're using the correct software but with some dumb per-concieved ideas
Nicholas Wright
Reminder that if you use adblocker you are literally stealing content from hardworking people and should be jailed for thievery Think twice before you adblock
Brandon Robinson
Whats wrong with his post? I do pretty much the same exact things.
Kevin Brooks
anyone use Youtube Adaway?
Owen Hall
Use newpipe
Ryder Ward
i need my 200 subscriptions to stay
Ryder Edwards
>enable all filter lists EXCEPT the same ones used by umatrix uBlock and uMatrix are for different things, their filters don't overlap
and Adaway is a bit old, people nowadays use DNS66 or Blockada, neither need root access
Brandon Wright
DNS66 is garbage and a battery drainer. Never heard of blockada either. My understanding is that adaway is the best solution, but since it requires root these other adblock apps have popped up that work without root, but not as well as adaway.
Hudson Richardson
>Neither need root access So they don't block at hosts levels? Into the trash they go.
Kevin Kelly
>Neither need root access So they don't block at hosts level? Into the trash they go.
Tyler Perry
>uBlock and uMatrix are for different things Not the other user but I remember reading the same thing about "enabling all filter lists except the same ones used by umatrix" thing. I can't remember where though, I wanna say it was on the author's git page but I can't find it.
Justin Rogers
how do sites know I'm blocking their adds? is there a way to prevent them from knowing?
