USA was behind the coup. Russia warned him a week before it happened.

USA has been a pain in erdos ass for a while so he is sticking it to them by improving relations with Putin
it's all tactical though, he's still going to stick with NATO unless we see radical change in the current international order

Because Erdogan is becoming more and more of a neo-ottomanist, and consolidating his power grip on Turkey more and more. He's basically a sultan at this point, with an added anti-Kurd stance. These ambitions go directly against those of the USA, who want to have proxy states (for which Kurds seem like a good candidate) in order to have access to the natural ressources of the region, and perhaps even some day use the region to isolate Russia even further.

It's a bit of a complicated issue, because back when Turkey joined NATO, it was quite different from today. Back then, it was very secular and the army controlled the country, effectively making any of today's stuff impossible. But now, the army has been completely neutered by Erdogan.

"by the way, I am muslim too, comrade. inshalla."

because US
>neo-ottomanist
nice meme
ottoman empire was allied with UK while atatürk was busy fighting greeks and western imperialist powers off the anatolia
>army
army was against the coup that's why it failed for fucks sake

shit, accidentally posted
>because US
because US planned and supported the coup

>ottoman empire was allied with UK
yes, and Turkey today is allied with the USA. However, in both cases it's a very shaky alliance, to say the least.

>army was against the coup
I know, but independently of the coup, Erdogan has way more power over the army than any previous president did.

proofs?

Merkel didn't even need to tell him that.

the funny part is erdocuck doesnt even know basic english

>Everyone starts looking at Obama first

SImple. Erdogan wants to consolidate power and is doing so with very authoritative measures.
This is not seem well in the west and is siding with Russia, a more authoritative system, to gain some support and legitimacy.
