why is my 8700k not boosting to 4.7ghz for a single threaded application? I'm running Cinebench single core test and it only goes to 4.4ghz even though temps are well below 60 degrees. I tried running prime95 on one core and similar result. I couldn't find anything to adjust in the bios besides multi core enhancement which is obviously not for single core. Only enabling one core in the bios seems to fuck up turbo boost completely and keeps it locked at 3.7ghz. I have a asrock z370m itx a/c motherboard.

My CPU is a neuronet processor (a learning computer). Am I protected from Spectre attacks?

I also tried setting core affinity to one core for cinebench with same result.

are there any programs that let me rate songs and see how many plays i have on them? could it keep track of what i stream on youtube/pandora/etc?

Let's say I have a 30Mb/s connection that I have to share with 10 other people via a cheap port switch. I can guarantee that at least one person will be torrenting or streaming at any given time which KILLS the internet, I'm talking ping upwards of 1000ms. Is there anything that can be done about this, like getting a better port switch? Any recommendations?

Would a raspberry pi supply enough power to 4 HDDs plugged in via usb-sata adapters?

How do compression algorithms work? Can I get a /quick rundown/?

>that let me rate songs and see how many plays i have on them?
nigga that's itunes

Is there a Hydrus (image-tagging program) alternative that requires less commitment? I wonder if there's a standard sort, but even a recommended one is fine. I realize the Hydrus dev's work is constant and a labor of love, but the warnings scared me, and I delay reading the documentation...

how about catching the songs i stream from various sources?

Anyone know if 4chanX has a feature to automatically hide posts after you report them, like the native extension does? I tried looking but I didn't see anything.

With every phone I've ever had, Google Maps will usually work, but about once a week it will just give up and tell me I'm somewhere I was hours ago (work, home, etc. when I'm walking around a couple miles from either place).

Is there some secret setting in Android/Google Maps to just query GPS and get me a good read of where I actually am instead of just doing whatever it does now?

Let's say you have a string: AAAbbbbbbbbbbaaaaaaAAAAAbBBBBBBB

You could count the sequential instances of each character and get: A3b10a6A5b1B7

The latter string is much shorter but could easily be expanded back to the first string if you know the compression/decompression algorithm

What is it like to have parents who love each other?

Why do I always get replies from useless fucknuts who think they're funny but aren't?

Verizon SIM card question:
I bought a used Galaxy S5 off of Amazon. My current phone is 3G CDMA only so I don't have a SIM card. Will Verizon charge me money for a new SIM card?

Just ignore them; it's par for the course on Sup Forums.

Yeah, I usually do, but it's just so weird that of all posts in the thread they pick mine.

Apparently the "high accuracy" setting is enabled on my phone, still does not work that well.

I bought a prebuilt HP for my brother, the first time I tried to turn it on I got no picture, I turned it off, connected a different monitor, and it worked that time. I updated windows and restarted, now when I turn it on the fans start and absolutely nothing else happens. No beeps, no picture, literally nothing. When I hit the power button, it turns off instantly, so that means Windows isn't even starting at all.
Also, if I unplug the GPU, I get three long beeps and I have to hold down the power button to turn it off. If I unplug the CPU 4 pin, it turns on, makes no beeps, and won't turn off
What the fuck do I do.

is it just me or did Chrome change the way it displays underlined text with descenders

set up Quality of Service (QoS) in your router to reduce the priority of torrent/streaming traffic
that way if your household is using more bandwidth than you have, the big hogs get to wait at the back of the line and use up whatever's left instead of taking it all before anyone else can get at it

How do you even get a foot in the door with freelancing? Every client on every freelancing site wants a $1/hr high-quality and hard-working Punjeet but they don't actually want Punjeet, they want a Kevin for Punjeet pricing.

I started at $30/hr which my friend laughed at and said it was way too low. Even for $10/hr, it's nearly impossible to get freelancing work whether it's writing or development related. I've passed all those stupid tests you can do on those sites and I've seen those profiles where people are supposedly making six-figures, just like the models local in my area who want to fuck me.

Seriously though, how the hell do you get freelancing work? I've tried Upwork/Elance and a few others and not one single gig. Even a demeaning $10/hr gig to get my reputation started. None.

>How do you even get a foot in the door with freelancing?
By know people in real life who need work done that you can do.

lol those sites are mainly for pajeets and penny chasers. You have to dig through hundreds of proposals to find a decent client. Been there and done that. Go to chamber of commerce meetings, those people always need websites.

I'm 99% certain I got a virus on my main Windows installation (I was planning on formatting that hard drive soon anyways), but I want some insight on how it might be running itself since it's behaving so strangely.

>try to download video from shady streaming site (you don't need to tell me this was a dumb idea)
>tried to play my cards right by blocking every request in uMatrix that wasn't essential for the video to load
>right click video, open in new tab so it would be just the video file and nothing else
>click the download button on Chromium's native video player
>immediately my screen turns black except for my mouse cursor
>force shut-down my computer as soon as this happens

>boot into back-up windows install on another physical hard drive
>check affected hard drive for suspicious files
>nothing was modified or created around the time I got fucked except for some Windows files that, after some searching online, seemed legit, and the temporary file from the download itself (which I deleted)
>boot into safe mode in the fucked Windows install to run hitman pro, found nothing

>feel ballsy and boot normally into fucked Windows install
>black screen happens shortly after booting, before I can check task manager for shady processes

None of my important files have been modified thankfully, unless programs can somehow spoof file data like that which I doubt is possible since that would be a potential security risk, plus there's no way it had enough time to read and affect nearly 2TB of data.

I couldn't find any suspicious files anywhere. Could it be running from RAM? How would that be possible if my computer still behaves like this after a shut-down? I can't imagine it being anything but a virus since this happened as soon as I tried downloading from a shady website, but there's no traces of it anywhere as far as I can tell.

Does there exist a userscript for recaptcha that watches for "click verify when there are none left" and slams the reroll button until it gets a captcha without that bullshit?

my psu is dying, and so of course i need a new one. the problem is the CX600M is really expensive now for whatever reason, and so i need to switch. so i need a different brand.

i have two questions:
>how accurate are those psu calculators
the one i tried suggested i can get away with 500w psu, but im hesitant to try that with my gpu
>what are some reliable psu brands?

Just get 4chanX you moron.

I'm thinking about starting a pc build and am wondering if I could get some advice.
I'm currently debating between:
A.) Getting a used graphics card (gtx 1060/1070) in a week or two and continuing to save up for the rest of the build while using it in my shitty one
or
B.) Waiting a month, getting every part for the build and waiting another few months to see where graphics card prices go.
Any tips? Have a few other ideas but don't feel like making this original post any longer, will if people ask

I want a power brick/battery to charge my shit during the day. Is there a significant different between the chink shit ones and the name brands? I'm vaguely concerned about life of the battery and whether it's going to explode in my backpack.

GPU prices are a shitshow at the moment, I'd wait on purchasing one for a minute

Are you buying from amazon or something? If so try looking up the reviews. Anker has amazing ones though if you are willing to spend a bit more. My friend has been using a generic one he bought in the checkout aisles at walmart for close to a year now and it still works (was like $10 for a 5,800mah one)

Those Anker ones seem pretty nice, might buy a lower end one of those.

But I can afford to spend like $500 for one, which I see them selling for used a lot. Granted I would prefer spending like $300. The rest of the build would probably cost around $800
I know my current cpu would bottleneck a 1060 pretty badly but it should provide some improvement in performance.

How about a 1050 ti though? Would it be a worth upgrade from an rx 550 since I can get one new for $200 right now?

Do you know how big the batteries in what you are going to charge are?

A surface pro 4 (old model not the update) is the main thing. Not sure what battery it has.

I doubt it, you would be better off getting a powered usb hub and getting external hard drives (which are around $10 more for the same size as a standard hdd)

Jesus Christ $200? I got a 1050ti for $110 less than a year ago. Are GPU prices really that fucked?

Lmao most places I've seen are selling them for $300-$400. I see them for $200 a lot too though

Look if you don't believe me

Good book for learning VHDL? I did a trimester at uni learning it, but forgotten a lot.

That has just over 5000mah battery capacity, but it's rated at taking 7.5volts. Most portable power banks only output 5v. This would make it charge slower and could potentially hurt the laptop's battery

If I do track down a decent 7.5v charger would that be harmful to devices like my phones or MP3 player that are presumably meant to take the 5v output from the majority of chargers?

Bros I'm looking for your tech knowledge here

Long story short, I'm uploading a pdf file. The original document is black and white. I've scanned it in color mode because it looks much better with elss artifacts and so on. Now the agency that I'm uploading it to doesn't allow you to scan B&W documents, has to be originals with the signature and stamp and so on in blue but they DO allow it of you only have a B&W scanner. Will I get caught if I upload a color scan?

TLDR: Does a pdf file contain any flags that betray it as a color scan vs a B&W scan? Using Adobe Acrobat in case it matters

Yeah that probably wouldn't be a good idea to mix. Do you have the original chargers that came with the phone/mp3 players? You'll want to find a charger that has an output similar to the ones listed on them if you can find them.
Most smaller devices like those would take a 5volt input only
Using a high voltage charger could very easily overload a phone's battery

There appear to be some portable chargers with a couple of normal 5v ports and a multi-voltage port for charging tablets and whatnot. That sounds like what I want.

Yeah that sounds like it would work. Sorry if I went a little crazy with the details/warnings haha. I've just never thought about charging my laptop from something other than a wall adapter and have always taken my phones' battery life seriously

Thanks for the heads up, I hadn't even thought that my phone and tablet would take different voltages.

Glad I could help

Hey /g. Was going to make a thread for this question, but I checked for a /SQT

I would like to edit my host file so when I click on a website, instead of the clicked on website, I get routed to another website.

In my hosts file I would like the following entry to work.

abc.com cbs.com

currently I have
127.0.0.1 cbs.com

and that works to resolve to home. I would like CBS.com to resolve to ABC.com.

thank in advance. Here is 3 handed Oprah for your luls.

Surface Pro doesn't charge off of USB. Don't think you can get away with some dinky little phone charger pack

Yeah I've come to the same conclusion. Looking at this or something similar:

qi-infinity.com/products/35k-mah-surface-pro-charger

In a word, heeeell no. Often times it won't even power one.

What's the most lightweight method of compiling C# on Windows? Currently just using CSC.exe from whatever version of .Net Framework I have, but I thinky version is obsolete but I want to stay the fuck away from having to install Visual Studios

I can install more than linux distribution on the same harddisk, right ?
All I gotta do is add a new grub entry. What about the /boot partition tho ? Can the two distributions share it ? Won't there be any conflicts ? I just have to put both kernel images in it, or do I have to do more (except from changing the grub config for new entry, etc.) ?
I'd like to try out gentoo, but don't want to go ballsdeep.

Why isn't there a screen recorder that can record in app audio for android?
Is it against the TOS so you dont record your calls or something?

sys admin noob here.

How do I setup reverse proxy with apache2 and SSL? Here is my current setup, in my site conf file I have two virtual hosts like:

... configs

.... configs

I need on the same host something like

... other configs
ProxyPass / localhost:15612
ProxyPassReverse / localhost:15612

But when I point my browser, to :5612/ I receive that SSS rx record is too long. My server always redirects to https. and it's properly configured. How do I setup this?

On the Xbox 360 controller for windows, how do you switch from using the left analog stick for movement to use the Dpad for movement?

It seems like a simple basic feature but I can't find anything anywhere to get it working that way. Anyone know how to use dpad for movement on the 360 controller?

What's some good text to speech software for Windows 7? Something where I can just highlight some text on a website or a PDF and have it read it or have it read the whole thing. Prefer it to be more natural sounding but I'll live with it if it's not.

So far I've tried Windows Narrator which is shit and some addon for firefox which is okay but I feel like I can do better.

Is there a cheaper / better alternative to Spotify Premium?

Or is there any way to get Premium cheaper?

For the use I give it, 10€ a month doesn't justify it, however I don't want to get rid of it.

It's only reading one sentence for me than stopping. It also has the same voice as used in the firefox addon I'm using now and has the disadvantage of me having to copy paste everything in to the website unless I get Chrome and download the addon.

I'm thinking more along the lines of actual software rather than online services or more browser addons.

>cinebench
Never heard of it but you may run into stalls.
Run perf stat on your application and see how many idle cycles you have. Ideally you'd isolate the core running situation of the software (for example things like loading resources can throw off the measurement). But if you run long enough you can make that less relevant quite quickly.
Anyway. If your application is starved for data there's absolutely no reason to turbo it.

reddit.com/r/LifeProTips/comments/7m44kp/lpt_every_4_months_spotify_makes_an_offer_of/drre60j/
>LPT: Every 4 months, Spotify makes an offer of three months for the price of one, but only if you haven't been subscribed for a month. So if you can make do without premium for one month out of 4, you can cut down costs of premium by 66%

A top comment added "Lpt #2 if you’re a student, Spotify is 50% off."

Is it possible to build a computer from rocks or mud or wood?

I'm not talking about case more like makeshift circuits, fans etc.

Maybe even power it with a potato

The mobile game I play hasn't been able to open for the last hour and a half. What recourse do I have to successfully launch it again? I've tried restarting my tablet (android), doing "device maintenance" under settings, force stopping it, attempting to launch it many dozens of times... nothing works. Unfortunately I think I fucked it harder by letting android put the app in "sleep" mode to save power since it seems unstable. It says it's undone when the app launches, but I still haven't been able to.

This is very upsetting to me, because I've been addicted to it for almost two years now, and it incentivizes being away for no longer than 5 hours at a time. Play store says it has no updates pending.

One site I was visiting started to act very weird in Ublock. It keeps blocking some ads but the counter keeps going up and up. Disconnect addon also keep counting "Adform", reaching 20k blocked requests within few minutes.

Is it bug or I should stop visiting said site for a while?

Is there a website to act as a middle man for downloading stuff, I mean, let's say I got a MEGA link, but because of my ISP I cant download it at a good speed, so the website downloads it and I download it from them?

The game has to support it, otherwise you would need to deactivate the controller, and use XPADDER to emulate the keyboard's control and assign them manually.

thats odd, I use this thing all the time, I don't know why its doing that, there's a lot of different voices and accents.

mega is imcrypted, they can't see anything you're doin

The picture should speak by itself.

If mega is slow it's cause that's mega

Go ahead, try for yourself then

Also, when using a VPN it works as intended, unfortunately the free one I was using does not work right now.

Because at one thread I got called wrong and I want to be sure that Im really wrong or not.

If user use python script (github.com/llakssz/FunKeyCIA in fact) to download files, server perfectly knows who is downloading what, right? I mean, IP, device type and so on? I would say it does, but my interlocutors claims it dont. Who is right?

>boot up computer and log on, everything fine so far
>log in and desktop loads and everything looks normal
>as soon as everything has loaded (at least visually), computer slows down considerably, I can't start anything, and cpu usage stays at 0% most of the time
>after 5-10 minutes it's like my computer suddenly remembers that it's supposed to do shit, and everything starts working normally

Malwarebytes found pup.optional.startpage24, but besides that I haven't been able to find anything suspicious. I have w7. What can I do?

I can't launch Chrome, either, actually, even though I can launch youtube, so this helps me know it's not specific to my game app I'm addicted to. But I still see no answer in sight. Sorta sad about it.

I wish I could lend more of a hand user but lately I think I'm being throttled or my computers crapping out cause I can't download anything over a gb

Is alright user, you don't owe me anything.

Maybe your Hard Disk? Or too much stuff at the startup? Try using to check up on its health like Crystal disk info or HD tune up pro.

What do you even want it for? The selection is the same, the normal audio quality is more than enough unless you have $500 headphones, and the ads are stupid easy to block. Everything else is pretty much the same in free.

How do I block this idiot from coming up in youtube video recommendations?

How fucked am I? Also I have very little stuff in my startup, only essential stuff.

Depends on how old your Hard Disk is and if you defrag often.

It's an old computer (around 2011-2012 I think?), but it was unused and only collected dust until I got it about 8 months ago. I have to admit that I have never defragged it.

Years ago I used to use this ccleaner.com/defraggler/download
BUT, I have been using for years Windows 10 now which Defrag on its own. Dunno if there is a better program.

How does VeraCrypt work?
Why does the volume dismount instantly? When does the encryption happen (every time I modify/add/delete/... a file?)?
And how safe the Full Disk Encryption is against sudden power outages? Can I encrypt only one partition (C:; windows; bootable)?
I swear I once saw spoilered text on this board, but I'm fairly certain there are no spoilers allowed here
I have 3 monitors and a HTC vive.
I drive them with a single GTX 1080.
I need to run another monitor and a 4k TV.

I want good VR performance and I mine shitcoins at night.

Should I:

- Buy another GTX 1080 to run in SLI
- Keep the GTX 1080 and put in a 1080 Ti
- Sell the GTX 1080 and get two 1080 Tis
- Get a cheap GPU (like 1060) just to drive the additional monitors?

Nope. And thank god. That shit's retarded. We do have code though.

I might do this this summer when I use it more.

The problem is blocking ads on the phone app.

Look up Spotify Dogfood. It's the spotify app with open source mods done to it. You can build yourself or use pre-compiled.

Thinking about buying a 2013 MacBook Air off eBay.

Am I a brainlet due to lel apple slows down their products every generation?

It’s $350

Must've been switching between boards. They can blend together sometimes

can i get your guys' opinion on the best portable browser available right now?

What's the best current non inflated gpu for 1080p 60+ fps Max settings on games?
