Install Gentoo

Back to Sup Forums

keyboards have a lot of buttons on them just use one of those I guess

Thanks for the memes, anyone with an actual answer though?

>calling Gentoo a meme

I have the Razor Naga, although I don't play MMO's or whatever, I just like the feel of it. But I've got 12 buttons on the side, the mouse wheel has a click, left and right, and below that is forward and back... Along with the standard left click and right click buttons obvs.

get a g600, razor has shit lasers in the nagas
the third click is FAR more useful then it first appears.

24 macro buttons on my thumb, ability to move the normal clicks around, yea that never becomes useful outside of games, why would anyone ever want to use one.

g600

I'm pretty happy with my Roccat Nyth. It's great to map window management on the grid of buttons, makes working a breeze.

I love this mouse, paid $35 for it. Has adjustable weights, burst fire button, 12 side buttons, 16400 DPI, RGB, and all buttons are programmable. The only downside I've noticed is no internal memory to store profiles on the go. The software is even faster and less buggy that corsair garbage (owned a Corsair M90 before this, mousewheel died in a fucking year). Overall, would buy again.

I have a g600 and absolutely love it, even when I'm not playing games.

This
Get the g600
It is pretty hard to get your third finger used to the third mouse button though as it is used to being alongside the mouse not on it.

a fucking g600, you get 12 more keybinds with it. im someone that actually has had every fucking mmo mouse and i keep coming back to a g600. i have 2 of them and my oldest one has lasted 4 years, my newer one is around 2 years old. im the kind of person that smacks his mouse on the desk whenever he gets pissed because autism. go with a g600, its even better than the scimitar pro.

/thread

Again for the g600, the only downside is the tiny fucking screws in it if you ever need need to clean it can be a pain if you don't have the right screw driver. The cord on it is fairly tough and pretty easy to replace, logitech website sells.

I actually need a new cord myself, how would I even replace it? It doesn't seem detatchable

the fuck are you gonna do with that, call for a pizza delivery?

Holy fug, I have a mouse just like this except different design and it's from Redragon, plus it has internal memory. Unfortunately doesn't work with Linux though

Now there's a good idea for an emacs plugin.

>MMO
Gross
You posted a decent one, I guess, considering you can actually move the side-buttons around a little bit, apparently.

Honestly, if you aren't use to the third button yet and just want an mmo mouse, these are probably as good as the g600, but im use to the 3rd button so much that its become second nature, may be good not to get use to it as no one else is doing it.

personally I used the big naga side things when they did the revamp so my ring finger was always resting on the mouse. I also have fuck huge hands to the point the 'duke' xbox controller was very comfortable even when I was what... 13 or 14? so it may be a me thing. also was very use to claw grip due to hand size so I was already use to thumb and pinkie holding the mouse, the only difference with the mmo mice is you have to get use to a light grip, but that's already something I was use to due to drawing with charcoal.

The logitech one is great and comes with excellent software. The configuration is stored on the mouse so you can also boot to GNU and have the same buttons and sensitivities.

they are called mmo mice, but I have never once found a use for the damn thing in games. I have never encountered a game where I needed the mmo aspect to get me by because modern games are all fairly good with button placement and macros. even mmos, the most complicated systems I know of are black desert when it comes to how to use the characters and even then its not something I can't do, and the ones where shit and alt are used to modify, I find are slow enough paced that I can easily use the mouse to click things or use an in game macro to put more then one command on a button.

no my main use for it comes from general purpose functions in non gaming programs.

the software sucks dick and will take your computer down with it when it fucks up if you do it wrong.

here let's give my example,

I sleep in the same room as my computer, so having the buttons turn off their led is nice, I like the led on in use because it will very easily tell me when a program is no longer focused. so I made it time out an turn the led off.

the way logitech does this is by suspending the mouse and keyboard, so neither work regardless of what your keyboard is. now, when it detects movemnet the mouse is back on.

so the program locks up for a second, there goes your mouse keyboard and all the shit you had going on, because you now have no means to input fucking anything. ctrl alt delete works, and mouse moves on that screen but the moment it goes back to windows, everything stops working.

Have never had anything but trouble with logitech.

razer, for its mouse had technically worse software, as over the coarse of a week the software would use more and more cpu power, till it just hit 100% on a single core and never let up, the thing is if you killed the task when the macro set you wanted was on, it would keep using them without the program being on, so technically in that regard, the software was never an issue

yea... logitech makes great hardware thats fucking hamstrung by the worst software I have ever used.

that sounds more user error, might want to run a malware scan, son

>utechsmart
haha not touching that fucking generic chink shit with a 20 foot pole

fresh install of windows at the time, it took around a month of this shit happening to figure out it was logitech's software

I stop the leds from turning off, the computer stops locking the mouse and keyboard.

yea, it sounds like user error if you know nothing about logitech and their horrendous software, because no one's software could be that bad, but nope, logitech's is. hell, the reason I have to keep the fucking leds on at all is because logitech will lose focus all the fucking time, oh no, you are riding the edge of program stability, it locs for a few ms, now you have to click off program and back on to regain focus, and that when its not doing something fucking retarded. sure you can lock the profile so it only uses that, however I have a profile for Im watching videos that turns off the leds, or a profile for a specific program that I use when I change between web browser and its set to program and its set.

I have to put up with logitech's shit because it's the best hardware, I would jump ship immediately if even some china company put out a true g600 clone. the sub par hardware would be a worthwhile trade just to get off this abortion they call software.

can confirm, this is a great mouse. The G-Shift is super handy, it basically allows you to have a 2nd page of commands on the thumb number pad on the same profile. I use it for video editing and I can confirm that it's amazing.

>using windows

got a better option, im all ears

Spend more than 3 seconds on this board

Did you have to download extra software for yours? My third button never worked. Was never sure if I was missing something or not.

>I configured my computer wrong, and now it's not working properly
Sounds like the fix is to stop being an idiot.

why didnt you just use the button to turn it off??

yeah the logitech software. you can uninstall it once you are done with your config though. i havent touched that software in about 2 years since i got my most recent g600

linux isn't an option when every single program I use will end up needing wine or vm, if that's the case may as well just use windows.

yea, logitech makes some shit software, the fuck are you defending them for? do they pay you?

there is only a button on the macro pad for turning off the led, the mouse has no button, just looked at the software and there is no way to make a button and on off switch.

K
Well, like I said, the one you posted is decent.
Like the other mice people are posting, it has storage, so you can save your settings to it and transfer it to another PC/OS.
I've used CUE (the software for Corsair peripherals settings) before, and it's fairly simple to set up macros.
I don't have that particular mouse, but I'm aware the "keypad" can actually be shifted to fit your grip, which I've only seen in that particular mouse. There may be others that have that feature that I don't know about because, as can tell, I don't shop for MMO mice.

g600 is the best overall. utech and redragon are good if you don't want to spend $$ and the corsair one you are basically spending the extra money to be able to move where the buttons sit.

>get a g600
Doesn't exist in the EU anymore.

>every single program I use will end up needing wine or vm
Sounds like you're terrible at decision making

using this mouse right now,,, it has lasted me about 4-5 years.... love it....

yea, linux has no software that does what I want it to, and the only software that does is native windows or mac, not linux.

I want a working os, not a fucking project.

usb is usb, import.

G600 user here I have two. They both work great third button op as fuck

Fug...
These made me want to play wow, I have really cut that shit out and actually deleted my account 2-3 years ago.

What's the best one that's linux compatible?

I guess I'll have to. I don't get why it's been discontinued.

>budget choice
The utechsmart venus recommended above is surprisingly good, but my friend's one had the cable die within a year. It is a chinkshit no-name after all, so bear that in mind. Durability aside, though, it's great to use.

>proper choice
The G600 is still undefeated. Shit on Logitech all you want, their build quality is above average, and the design is great (that third button is surprisingly useful).

>meme choice
Pic related, no alternatives. Elecom M-DUX71BK if you want to copy-paste. Memes aside, as much as I love the design, the japanese amazon reviews say the build quality is meh. I have never seen a better design though, so if you're fine with potentially replacing a $100 mouse in a year or so, then give it some consideration.

>this is what people is using in wow
FUCK

how did I even kick ass in pvp against this shit?

>G600 on amazon UK
>£62 cheapest, sellers unironically listing for £150
>G600 on amazon US
>fucking £28
Well I know what I'm illegally importing next

emacs doesn't have a plugin system

I had an old naga, it was fine until the click issue appeared. Then I got the new naga, it is a piece of shit.

So don't get a naga.

The click issue being the doubleclick/etc. because of a shitty switch? I get that on all Logitech mice after a year or so.

I have one of these but another brand on it, there's a few names it's sold under and I love it, excellent quality for the price, I haven't owned other mmo mice, only tried them briefly in stores but the Venus/Reddragon feels more solid to me than Razer (most of their products feel shitty and overpriced to me though) a lot of people do use the Naga, the g600 and idk about the scimitar, it doesn't have as many loyal fans but I thought about giving it a try until I found the Venus.

anything is detachable if you take it apart far enough

technology is not a substitute for skill i'm afraid.

Did you not hear the part about my M90's scroll wheel dying? Check the Corsair forums, the problem was rampant. I'm done getting kiked by big names, it's all cheap chinkshit under the hood anyway.

if you aren't too retarded to rebind most of the totally useless default binds in WoW, there are a lot of good binds available on the left side of the keyboard, but an mmo mouse can still be a nice addition. I don't use the side buttons for a lot of critical combat abilities but it's great for sticking other stuff and a few combat skills on the easiest to reach buttons.

Exactly this, those big brands are no better, in many cases they are worse, just look at reviews for the Utechsmart, it's arguably the BEST mmo mouse at any price, and it sells for 1/4 the others

yes but the chances of you buying a chinkshit keyboard or mouse that has a fucking keylogger is pretty high

Oh right, cause that doesn't happen with companies who devote 20% of their budget to marketing. You ain't paying for security son. But please do cite an example where my mouse, a variation of my mouse, or it's manufacturer was riddled with trojans, otherwise you are fake news, maximum FUD, and probably sour grapes. I'll wait.

I have this. It's really good. Don't use it for games but controlling my media player

Another vote for the Logitech G600

I have that mouse for GW2. I like it, but buttons 7, and 8 are kinda awkward. I would also like the ability to weigh it down more but thats not a huge deal

/threading yourself
Kys

Mah niggah. Best mouse I've had in a long while, relegated my Deathadder to the desk drawer. Comfy as fuck too.
>corsair items breaking almost immediately
I'd be more surprised if it didn't

I'm on board the g600 train. Media keys, numpad, push to talk, it's the fucking best. I've had mine for nearly 5 years with no issues. Bought another and have it in storage in case it's discontinued.

My first G500 lasted 4-5 years or so, until the ring finger button gave out, and a couple other keys started to go, too.
Nice thing was as it started to die, I just remapped those keys to other buttons until I bought a new one.

Use a different mouse for gaming, but G600 is still the best mouse I've ever owned hands down.

They needed a way to handicap European guilds.

hurr durr thanks tech board

Because back in the day most people used keyboard and the ones that used keybind mice we're ultra nerd's.

Seconded, just yesterday wrote a driver for this thing.

>github.com/Ameliorate/nmfd
Neat. I hope it becomes plug and play in linux.

I paid $20ish for that few years ago. Still working fine here.

i have been using this mouse for nearly 6 years and it is still working in perfect condition to this day, had a few razer naga before and they all have buttons broken down within the first few months or half a year.

This one looks really nice and sturdy, like toys for autistic kids, is it? I want something that I can chew on and it won't fall apart.

What the fuck is this user
>two "mode change"
>two middle clicks
>not to mention three unmapped side buttons

Swiftpoint Z

based

Trust me you don't want one with a shitload because you'll CONSTANTLY click them accidentally. Just use shift+key or get a mouse with just 2 thumb buttons and bind shit like MB4+1 MB4+2 etc in place of having to use your pinky to hit shift all the time.

I can recommend the Razer Deathadder (old version) not the chroma. Deathadder original held up for 7 years. The chroma gets fucking sticky because they used double sided tape as adhesive for the thumb and pinky grips.

Or if u got $$ get a zowie fk-whatever

I used to love this kind of mice but these days they make them so damn thick it's not usable for me anymore. Programming buttons was fun but dependancy on the software kinda annoying...

This. As much as Linux has improved over the last couple years as a desktop OS, it still lacks some much needed standardization and commercial support.

Logitech have replaced my mouse twice now. Once due to a defect in the G500 and then the G502 Core had the left click switch go out after about 3 years as the warranty was going up. Got a G502 Spectrum but only with a two year warranty. Looks like I'm done with Logitech once this one inevitably breaks. Also had a G7 many years ago that suffered from the same switch issue.

It's already plug and play, but the side buttons can't be remapped. There is already a daemon that does remapping, but it's made in C++ and barely works. nmfd allows you to write your own scripts to remap keys.

It has only two side buttons, what the hell?

Tried a Naga. Mouse was too small.

Currently have a g600. Furthest 3 thumb buttons are a bit of a reach, but I like it a lot. Onboard memory with little need to run the software is really a great feature.

The 3rd button is fantastic. I was used to having one many moons ago with my thumb trackballs. But they have since disappeared. even on modern trackballs. You would think that on immobile trackballs, you could utilize all your fingers on the pointing device.

Logitech's Gaming Software is junk. It nearly locks up my system on wakeup. I have to login, navigate to Device Manager and kill the process all via keyboard, and then everything works perfectly again. My solution is to just run the software to edit the onboard profiles, then quit the program. I write better macro programs for my mouse and keyboard anyway.

You could sacrifice one profile that has 0% LED brightness. (I think)

>Trust me you don't want one with a shitload because you'll CONSTANTLY click them accidentally.
Only if you've starred in a Back to the Future movie.

here is mine

and the cut things are porn searches and a common username

I find this VERY useful for the internet.

I also have every other mode as red so I know if something is wrong and the program fucked itself.

>two middle clicks

So you can give someone the middle finger and still keep on clicking.

this.

Used one for years.

Never used the side keys for gaming, but as a productivity tool for the music engraving software I use, it's amazing - especially combined with macro keys on a gaming keyboard.

I really wish I could get a G600, but where I live it costs more than thrice of what it costs in the US.

Can you not import it? I was considering getting a spare for $30.

>>Can you not import it?
Usually the shipping is more than the item in such cases, not to mention import duties/tax.
