Merzbow
wyf is this sorcery
Been a while since I've listened to some Autechre. I should really remedy that.
I am?
STFU faggot. You need some noise. Real noise. Not this fucking orchestrated electronics called Autechre. Noise is the sound of death and there is nothing more calm as death. Thats your ultimate remedy. Scrub.
I fucking love listening to music while programming. I go through phases of what I listen to while i program, but here is the last 2 weeks up to now

I love weird prog music, but i could never get into frank zappa
Some people get distracted by lyrics. I usually only get distracted by lyrics if i haven't listened to the song before, so for me it's all instrumental stuff or its stuff im familiar with
how about fripp and eno collab stuff?
Russian hardbass
I'm ashamed to say that I have not listened to any of Fripp's work
You cannot possibly not enjoy apostrophe, bongo fury, or overnite sensation
aplay /dev/urandom
why do you giganerds use these shitty linux cli music players? have you never heard of spotify or youtube? downloading music lmao what yea is it??
liked pretty much everything. you have a good taste, user.

fripp is the main member of the band king crimson, but did some collabs with eno that were pretty cool. He created a feedback ambient system called frippertronics where he would play music into a tape machine that would play back two side by side tape recorders and have them record each others feedback. That album I linked is using that method
if you like that you should check this shit out

I tried listening to hot rats, but i just couldn't get into it. I recognize he's really good, but i just haven't got into it yet. I've had this happen a couple times before, specifically with Eloy, Van Der Graaf Generator, and Between the Buried and Me. I listen to it and I don't like it, but I know that some day I will love it, then one day I wake up and NEED to listen to that music and then I love it. It's the weirdest sensation.
also the bands I mentioned

Have you listened to any Alan Parsons Project? I skimmed over that stuff and think you might like him
What prog groups do you enjoy? I could never get into VDGG myself
my boi postie
Pretty much everything. The classics are all fantastic: Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, Focus, ELP
Recently though, ive been obsessed with crossover prog, which is the subgenre given to prog rock that has elements of other genres, like pop. A couple examples of the my favorite crossover prog include:
Steven Wilson - youtube.com
Radiohead - youtube.com
Supertramp - youtube.com
Mike Oldfield - youtube.com
Phideaux - youtube.com
The Dear Hunter - youtube.com
Big Big Train - youtube.com
and more
Whenever I'm in the mood for more music, i hit up www.progarchives.com and explore a new subgenre and all the cool music it has to offer.
Man, I heard this a long time and was trying to remember it recently. Interesting to find it here.
some other favorites of mine are
Hawkwind (especially the newly remastered album from steven wilson) - youtube.com
Hiromis sonicbloom - youtube.com
The flower kings - youtube.com
Camel - youtube.com
Focus - youtube.com
and other various stuff
You are welcome.

Im pretty sure all the instruments and vocals were done by Alan Parsons himself. Also he was a sound engineer on Dark Side of the Moon, Abbey Road, and The Raven that Refused to Sing. He's a fantastic musician

criminally underrated album. Probably one of the most interesting prog rock albums i've ever heard
any deadhead programmers?
Hey, its me, >The Emancipation procrastination
I can see myself chilling out to this prog-jazz.
>Casualties of Cool
Has a nice dream-like psychadelic aesthetic somewhat similar to Fever the Ghost. Althoughtthe country-like mannor is a bit of a turn off. Good background noise though.
>Ziltoid
not my cup of coffee :^)
>terria
same as ziltoid

It goes from Early prog rock, to a jazzy rock-prog, utilizing ambient noise as a decorative throughout the whole work, finally ending on a high note.
Believe me when i say that The Mars Volta in their entire discography cover 4-5 different genres mixed into their distinct prog works. They are the masters of ambiance too.

Is there anyone who actually listens to playlists made for 'programming' in mind?
Mostly hip hop, but blues/jazz as well
Dude I hate that. What's worse is, after a couple interruptions, I can't concentrate anymore because all that's looping through my head is "When is this bitch going to talk again?"
Its like, can't you see the pain in my face when you bother me with something fucking stupid?

Jesus... This board has better music discussion than that sad excuse Sup Forums has had in months.
Really makes you think
It did, but not anymore. I loved that board, until last August. That's when it finally fulfilled its ultimate purpose, like every other board will at some point. It became a free for all shitposting arena.
