Dell business line have the same/better build quality, better spec, better keyboard and just as good aesthetics (mostly). Downside is they still don't stand up to apple's top tier trackpad.

Also forgot ssd/hdd and ram are always easily upgradable too.

I use mac at work everyday and I fucking hate it. Everything from the worthless delete button to the mouse that prevents me from working if it runs out of battery. I hate that everything has to sync, everything is cloud based and proprietary. Many simple tasks are unnecessarily convoluted. Take for example the old copying a single file from desktop to phone.
Any laptop with the same or better hardware that isn't in a small, closed up little case is leagues better because it won't thermal throttle. It just won't look as pretty. Its up to you to decide what you value more, Mac is unquestionably great form but it sacrifices function on every turn. Take your IO for example and the 100 dongles and accesseries you have to buy for external equipment and reading. I personally love the look and external build quality of mac laptops, but their hardware is wasted and the baggage that comes with it makes it never worth buying to me.

You sincerely have no idea what the P (former W) series is and is strictly far, far more powerful than any macbook that will be released in the next 2-3 years at least

How bad is Mac's file system management? I was tempted to get an iPad pro for the larger screen compared to android.

you'll be locked out of a lot of function and features if you don't sync. You can use it fine without for general tasks and offline file exchange just the same as a windows pc, but for me siri and apple's sync shit is a lot more invasive than w10. On w10 all I have to do is use shut up 10 after major updates and restart then forget about it.

as the other user said pick literally any high end dell, asus or HP. I think the HP professional laptops have the closest look to the macs as that is what you like. Asus probably has best performance but they are typically largest and gaming orientated in appearance.

Comparing the P71 to the Macbook pro is insanely in favour over the P71 - we're talking 64GB of RAM, a top tier CPU, a fucking GPU made for video editing (among other productive reasons like massive spreadsheets of several million entries, UHD+ rendering, etc).

Even the GPU alone obliterates the amd 560.

The only downside is that the most powerful P series I mentioned is heavier than most weights cardio bunnies use

Okay, let me explain the reasons macbooks are bad compared to high end business laptops - read roughly the same price of a macbook:

The biggest is the cost - for the same cost of a top tier macbook you can get a fucking beast of a laptop that rapes apple and all your video editing programs while the macbook is slowly trying to render the home made video of you talking about how cool your new mac is

They throttle a lot. This means that the computer slows itself down because generally speaking, the computer is too hot. This is a key problem (not limited to apple only) with macbooks, yes other companies have a few laptops that suffer from this but in general, macbooks suffer from it vs a few specific laptops from other companies.

iOS in general is pretty locked down. It's not a productive OS. And yes, you can install Windows or Linux but then again, why the fuck would you buy a mac to use something other than iOS.

Upgrades - this is a fault of consumer laptops too so we'll focus on business ones like the Dell Lattitudes. Imagine you want to run Photoshop with, I dunno... 80 layers? And you try it and your computer is slowly chugging along maxing out your 16GB of memory.
Well fuck it, just get another stick and pop the back off and shove that stick in. Instant upgrade!

Which goes hand in hand with repairs and business notebooks that are out of warranty- generally speak, if an SSD (for some reason) goes bad, you can replace it yourself that day buying a new one. Mac goes out of warranty? Too bad if it breaks, it's a paperweight.

The problem with apple isn't the hardware, it's overpriced but if you can pay it's great.
The problem is the botnet OS trying to cloud your date, to recognize faces in your photos, to sample your voice with siri etc.
I don't even know how to do a clean install anymore, seriously, the cd drive have been removed and if you try a usb install the OS copy won't install because it expired or some shit. How do you clean install a mb without an apple id and the store ?
You can easily turn off Siri and icloud but im not sure about using a mb without an apple id

But i have to say using apple shit really make you lazy. You can install any new OS on top of the old one keeping your data, text messages from desktop, clone your HD and make a bootable backup with superduper, no virus, everything work, all the time but it's bloated as fuck and you don't learn anything ever. Also botnet

i think there's only two type of non pleb laptop setup

free memepads, pi etc low tech linux setup with full control and overpriced apple proprietary lambos, everything else (windows plastic shit, high end non apple stuff) is absolute garbage

you can't have everything, like installing a dualboot distro on a mb or something, it sucks, so you either have a geek/meme setup or a mac or both but separatly

if i had to buy a laptop i would either buy pic related and use high sierra or a $300 thinkpad and a xfce distro like maybe MX-16

2013 macbook pro with the retina display is my favorite laptop so far.
very good keyboard, amazing trackpad, insanely good screen, thin as hell, extremely tasteful and aesthetic OS (at least pre yosemite), amazing build quality memes aside, and it just werks.
