Bring to me ReactOS updates.

Welcome to the Future

Why be compatible with inferior operating systems when you could run infernal operating systems?

>Use Plan9 on my Raspberry Pi
>Everything werks
>Okay, I'll figure how to use the operating system
>Draw a window
>What do.png
>Go online and watch a tutorial on how to use the Plan 9 terminal
>Snarf
>Dell
>Zerox
>Lack of software, but doom
>Very unfriendly interface
Why is Sup Forums suggesting a flavor of Plan 9? Is it just a meme or are people using it because it is very obscure and will make them feel like a cool hipster? Or maybe they think normies are invading GNU/Linux and will think they will invade BSD? Don't use Plan 9 because it tries to be different than everyone else for the wrong reasons.

I agree, why not use inferno.

Definitely 9front

released are on ninetimes.cat-v.org

pls write softwaren before complain kthx

It seems like most of your complaints are about the UI rather than the OS, which is fair because it's very different to anything available today. There's a lot of documentation on why everything is designed the way it is; rio (the Plan 9 WM) was designed to be transparent (see Rob Pike's paper titled the same thing) and assumes that you have access to a GUI environment and a 3 button mouse. It's very much ahead of it's time compared to traditional UNIX & UNIX desktops, which mostly utilize the keyboard because of old terminals and such. I don't know what Dell is, but all the terms used are just traditional commands reworded for whatever reason. ("The operation is not to copy but to snarf. It's called snarf because snarf is what it does.") I'd bet there are less than 50 people in the world who actually use *9* as a daily operating system, which you seem to think it is supposed to be. It was built from the ground up with today's computer in mind. The reason you're having trouble with it is because you're not used to it.

Continuing this with some useful paper links:

Inferno is great and runs on all your family friendly platforms (except amd64 plan9 for now)

Thanks for posting about the new Sup Forumsrid op, I was planning on making a thread about it soon. There are also new ANTS release .isos which have some scripts/tools to make use of it more easily, although any system which talks 9p can mount and use the fses.

I've been trying to figure out when was a good time to clue Sup Forums into the fact that the public Sup Forumsrid has been reborn and is far far better than it ever was in the ancient days when we first tried to figure out Plan 9.

They're probably just shitposting. Someone that intimidated/turned off by superficial differences wouldnt have taken the time to install it anyways. I dont mean that to imply somedone who would is better, just that only someone whos interested in trying weird alien software would bother installing it, mostly. Because its opaque and unuseable until you learn it, so only someone who wants to try new shit out would be interested. Though its beautiful and lovely once you get your grips with it.
and if they are really serious, they're a retard complete retard who cant imagine a world even slightly different from phones and apple, and shit, so who cares?

Maybe, although the pi image is pretty easy to get working with minimal effort. Either way, that shouldn't be enough to turn anyone away, intro(1) opens by default for a reason!

The 2008-era Sup Forums would completely shit themselves if they could see what is going on with the public Sup Forumsrid, it is what was always dreamed of then but we had no idea how to actually do because we were like cavemen trying to pilot a rocket ship when it came to actually doing things with Plan 9. If some more of you people can figure out how to actually use it, it might actually be a viable alternative to a lot of corporate proprietary ad-surveillance crap. Worth some effort, imo.

Bump

Yeah, seriously, Plan 9 has mostly faded from the limelight, but damn if 9front especially hasn't been making things better than ever.

If you have suggestions for what tutorials or information you'd like to see better presented, resources could be added to.

Most people on Sup Forums at present probably don't remember the old Sup Forumsrid.

Links for the uninformed!
