X280

Is the ThinkPad finally dead?

>fewer ports
>proprietary ethernet pork (seriously)
>non-removable battery
>soldered RAM

yep
I saw my fathers work laptop which was a X series ThinkPad and it still had ports and upgradeability but seems like they want to turn thinkpads into mac clones

not dead. T480 looking great.
as for X series...probably. the fuckin non-removable battery, the RAM... there is now literally no reason not to buy XPS 13instead , if you want ultraportable.

Do we know full spec yet?

X series is mac clones (aka "ultrabooks"), T series is "modernized" ThinkPad

>X270
>mac clone
no

>two USB C (Thunderbolt)
>two USB A
>HDMI
>headphone jack
Seems like a good amount of ports for an ultra portable business laptop, considering Apple's 12 FagBook has literally one USB port and a headphone jack and that's it. This basically the same shit that's on my X230 I'm using now aside from the SD card slot that I never use. My X230 also has MiniDP and VGA but I never use those anyways, because it's a small and light machine that I take with me for emails and shitposting. I can live with dongles for legacy ports like VGA.

>>X270
what year is it?

Wait a second. Am I not able to upgrade the RAM?

The laptop I was referring to was the X270 which is probably the last decent one you could get an upgrade.

>Can't put in a 72W battery anymore because it has to stay THIN

>8 gb SOLDERED ram, can't upgrade to 16

>1366 x 768 resolution in 2018

>no ethernet port

Yes, they killed the X-series.

I just bought a x270 as soon as I saw the x280

Hopefully it last forever

Ha ha, wow.
Even my 2012 Macbook Pro is better than that.

Nope. Max you will be able to get is 16 gb soldered.

x 768
I'm pretty sure they can 1080p

Welcome to X series, since 1st gen Carbon

Sure for the premium version that will cost you $$$$$$$ more

1080p should be the bare minimum in 2018

I did literally the same thing. Was waiting for x280 announcement and then decide between 270 and 280. Saying bye to quadcore and still the easiest decision of my life.

They can

So you are mad you get the OPTION of cheaping out on the screen?

>>Can't put in a 72W battery anymore because it has to stay THIN

This is the worst part.

A major strong point was being able to get 20+ hour battery life, and then being able to extend it with extra batteries.
It was the ideal /out/ laptop.

Looks like there won't be a T480p

Apparently 15W CPU's are now considered good enough for everyone....

dude, I doubt quadcores need any more than 15W, they run at lower frequency.

>proprietary ethernet pork

HARAM

Wrong.
Even a $50 Acer is better than the 2012 Shitbook Housefire.

>X series
Literally nobody cares.

Let me know when the T480 comes out.

Nah it's finally getting good

thistbhfam
Pic related is T470.
Removable battery.
Internal battery for uninterrupted battery swap.
Removable RAM.
Removable PCIe SSD.
Removable HDD.
Removable wireless.

>love everything about thinkpads
>except for the red clit
what do I do?

ThinkPad is not only the X-series...
But yes, I miss my X220 that I sold...

Replace it with a black or blue one.

Macbook Pro 15" 2012:
>16gb RAM
>i7-3820qm (4 cores, 8 threads / 2.7ghz, 3.7ghz turbo)
>Nvidia 650m (that Apple tricked the fuck out.)
>1680x1050
>Space for 2 internal SSDs.
>USB 3.0

$50 Acer (Aspire ONE):
>2gb RAM
>Atom N570 (2 cores, 2 threads / 1.7ghz)
>Intel GMA 3150
>1024x600
>Only a single HDD bay
>USB 2.0

Whatever you say kiddo

Macbook Pro 15" 2012:
>overheats and throttles to Pentium III tier performance

$50 Acer (Aspire ONE):
>destroys the shitbook even with an Atom CPU

>this model is not available with a mechanical hard drive.

There are different series.
X series is silm and lightweight for facebook browsers

I think you're confusing new Macbook Pros with the old good ones.

>Macbook
>good ones

Just give me the Raven Ridge update to the A series please.

Really made me think.

This.

Got an X200 and X220 and I actually prefer the X200
>dock can charge batteries without laptop present
>got it for 9 dollaridoos
Seriously great. I was looking at the X260, 270 for a future upgrade, but if RAM is soldered, fuck that. Also, what's the battery availability on X230 and up?

>720p display
What the fuck

>t. brainlet

www3.lenovo.com/ng/en/laptops/thinkpad/x-series/ThinkPad-X280/p/22TP2TX2800

Somebody needs to make a line of laptops that maintain the standard that thinkpads used to be known for.

Clearly a typo. 720p laptop displays don't exist.

>can't buy muh laptop because there is a red button
You are worse than macFags.

I'd certainly hope so

I would've bought the shit out the x280 if it was
>x270 shell
>soldered lpddr3 RAM
>m.2 ssd only
>tiny internal battery and giant swapable battery that SITS FLUSH
>1440p screen like the x1 carbon
But they fucked it up.

>1080p
The author does not know for what the p stands.

wow, like they're making an effort to make it shittier every iteration

Would unironically take the itoy over this garbage
-shutter on webcam, like they're literally admitting it has malware loaded on it
-thin fashion accessory meme, removing standard enterprise ports
-no removable battery or RAM
-still no proper panel options
-marketing is literally a copy of the itoy

I agree with 280 being pure shit, not on X being shitty every iteration though. x270 was best model since x230 imho.

Dell already does this.

I have a theory: If you're in a senior position in laptop design, you're old enough to also have been in laptop design five years ago, when being thinner than the previous generation really meant something and the point of diminishing returns on thinness hadn't been passed yet. That's why thinness is such an important goal in their minds. They're just too used to it having been the goal in the past.
Maybe when the next generation (of designers, not laptops) comes in they'll reverse the trend.

>-shutter on webcam, like they're literally admitting it has malware loaded on it
Windows

p screen like the x1 carbon
On a 12 inch? Pointless and expensive. I'd rather see them make their 12-inchers with 3:2 displays since 3:2 penals ARE READILY AVAILABLE AT THAT SIZE.

Which model is that?
Specs?

those shops are worse than mcd burger posters.

M4800

So what's the last good ThinkPad? I was looking at the x series for its portability but T series looks good too. Looking at the ThinkPad site it doesn't really tell me the difference between models. I'm looking to replace my gayming laptop that I got from my boss. It's fucking huge and heavy and embarrassing to whip out in class...

It does have FHD screen, i7 4710MQ, 16gb RAM so looking for something with similar specs or at least upgradeable

>Dell equivalent of P-series
But the ThinkPad P-series is already So this Dell doesn't give you an option that doesn't already exist in the ThinkPad line.
Now, if somebody would make a laptop that's a modern X200, that would be and an option that Lenovo isn't offering.

>It's fucking huge and heavy and embarrassing to whip out in class...
>It does have FHD screen, i7 4710MQ, 16gb RAM so looking for something with similar specs

>muh thin and light but powerful
Have you learned NOTHING from Applel's example?

rdy to say goodbye to dedicated gpu?

panasonic.jp/cns/pc/products/rz6k/

I'm considering just waiting for the X280 to hit so I can get the X270 at even steeper discounts as they attempt to get rid of old stock.

It's been dead since the 40-series, or arguably even the 30-series.
Do not give Lenovo your money. Hell, never buy new laptops from any brand, except maybe Purism and System76.

>LinusTechTips
am I on the ball or what

AYY DUDE its i
for interlaced XDDD

>1366x768

My god, it's 16:10 and everything...
So 16:10 panels actually *exist*? THEN WHY IS NO-ONE USING THEM.

Because they're usually used in 12" tablets.

holy fuck that thing looks awesome
what model is this?

>those specs
OMG YASS, TAKE MY MONEY

My laptop has a 720p display... Its a shitty Acer from 2011, but its resolution is the proper 1280x720p spec for HD.

I mean I'm pretty sure ThinkPad's have similar specs and don't weight over 5lbs and aren't 1.5 inches thick...

I don't need a dedicated gpu, I already have this gaymer monstrosity of a laptop. Just need something powerful and more portable.

>Just need something powerful and more portable.
You actually don't.

>can't buy these in the US

i fucking love my x220, and if it dies i'm getting an x220 with an i7. i've got an i5 right now, and my displayport is fucked ever since i got it second-hand. too bad i noticed too late, now i just live with the fact that i have no working displayport. it's obvious that some retard tried to jam a fucking usb device into it, and to be honest i can see how that happens

Ffs why couldnt x270 have thunderbolt

Happens to me all the time on the X200 with the ethernet port, not DP.

>he doesn't know

Should mention these jews charge a pretty heavy 10% extra on top of the purchase price for their services though.

I think fromjapan charges a flat fee, something like 700 yen.

>something like 700 yen.
I doubt that would even cover the extra for international shipping.

Oh ok. Thanks faggot.

That's their service fee. For shipping you'll pay just its actual cost.

How do nu-pad users defend those massive, awful looking bezels that even a '90s system could beat?
At least throw some fucking status lamps or something to break up the emptiness.

>I doubt quadcores need any more than 15W, they run at lower frequency.

They run at lower frequencies because they don't get enough power.

It's more about the cooling anyways.

you fucking normie probably dont even use your ethernet port either.
FUCK YOU
REEEEE

this. what's going on today with thinkpads is a fucking disgrace. fuck lenovo.

If you mean the bottom one, I can't defend it. If you mean the top and sides, I guess they increase the amount of plastic between the floor (or whatever you smash it against) and the panel... but yeah, I'd rather just have a thicker lid for that.

20+ hours with an x220?
man if this is possible, i'll probably get one in the future

x220 here. this is fucking depressing.

>Removable wireless.
Have they finally stopped with the pcie whitelist bullshit? I hear they started encrypting bioses which puts the kibosh on modding it out.

my x220 is getting a bit long in the tooth, used it almost everyday for work for 5 years.

what modern x series is somewhat decent? X260...X270?

that has a windows 8 pro sticker on the back
If I wanted something from 2013, thinkpads are good enough

How hard would it be to produce my own thinkpad like laptop?

not that hard, but you will get sued for violating so many patents

Is it worth the price?

try whipping this bad boy out in class

its either the ryzen version of the t480 or the panasonic LX6MD. too bad thats JP only, and 8gb ram max.

>Really made me think.
same user, same...

That's a wonderful picture of your father on the secondary screen there, Sanjay.

not to mention how overpriced they are
how long till some of these budget chink phone manufactures make copycat thinkpads
Comeon Ulefone

think about killing your dumb selves back to Sup Forums and spam your shitty thinking meme there maybe

T470p doesn't have any of those problems.
