high refresh rate is a fucking meme. I was at best buy today and finally was able to use a 144hz display in person for the first time. People on the internet always say there's an immediate difference just from using the desktop.
Guess what? There is no difference. I had to double and triple check all of the settings and it's the same fucking shit as 60hz. No smooth mouse cursor, no smooth window movement, fucking nothing. What a huge load of shit. I went through 144 to 120 to 60 and nothing was more responsive or smoother than normal. Double checked the monitor which also reported the correct refresh rate. It even said Freesync was also enabled which was strange considering it was running an Nvidia card. Couldn't test any games obviously because it was a demo unit but I'm sure they would be no different either.
So a huge fuck you to everyone on the internet trying to shill this bullshit.
Its called a decepticon you retarded fucking cunt.
Sebastian Turner
>optician
Its called an optometrist you retarded fucking cunt.
Ryan Smith
no but you don't understand he's not an amerimutt, we just don't understand how smart he is :^)
Leo Gutierrez
retard
Lucas Morales
Doctor being the keyword there makes them an optometrist you retarded fucking cunt.
An optician is just a lens cutting monkey.
Christopher Hughes
I HAVE TO BUY 144 HZ 60 HZ IS TOO SLOW AND SHIT
LINUS REVIEWED IT
Anthony Campbell
>winblows 10 fucking retard
Jason Russell
sorry they wouldn't let me install gentoo on it
Nathaniel Mitchell
144hz is a meme I have a 4k 60hz now Im much happier with this one, ofcourse I also dont game so I would never had noticed a difference anyway. Gnome scales extremely well with high dpi btw
Caleb Sullivan
>winblows 10 fucking retard
Brayden Flores
>it's a meme because I don't use it to its advantage Nice redundant statement
Camden Ward
did you use the correct display cables? Last time I checked, most HDMI don't support 144hz. If you are using DVI, make sure you're using Dual-Link DVI, not regular single-link DVI as it don't support high refresh rates. You can use Display Port too. I recommend Display Port out of those cable choices. I'm not sure about VGA cable but I don't think it supports high refresh rate either.
Grayson Brown
Don't you know the human eye cannot perceive anything above 25 Hz?
Easton Thompson
>my brain is too slow to comprehend high refresh rates Not our fault.
Robert Watson
it was using the latest display port
Carson Richardson
WAIT!!! IS THAT A 3754057hz DISPLAY???? OMG IM SO EXCITED TO PLAY (Insert flavor of the month fps title here) OMGGG I HOPE LINUS REVIEWS IT!!!
Henry Foster
of course it's a meme. your eyes see by creating roughly 63 still images a second, much like a monitor running at 60hz. at 144hz you're drawing 144 times every second to the screen even though you can only see 63 of them. people who believe they see a difference are just deluding themselves because they already spent the money and don't want to admit they've been jewed.
Landon Gonzalez
You said you were trying it out at best buy? Maybe the computer that you were demoing at Bestbuy was fucked? Maybe the cable was actually not displayport, just a chink piece of shit probably? Even maybe it's just you? When I got my ASUS VG248 144 hz monitor, I can instantly see the difference when I move windows around and playing games in high fps. You could just buy it and test it with your computer at home. If you still dont see the difference, just return it and get 4K monitor, i guess.
Levi Jackson
>25 Hz shit is it 25? i just said 63. i remember reading somewhere that it was 63 images drawn in our mind per second but that might be partial images. i know they eyes work in such a way that anything over 60hz is wasted on us.
Evan Harris
then why I was able to see the significant difference between 60 and 144? explain that
Justin Thompson
why would it be fucked? It was an HP omen gaming desktop. How could you plug a non displayport cable into displayport and have it display properly? Why would the monitor report it was at 120hz?
Ryan Brown
From 60 to 120 is obvious as fuck though
Aaron Lopez
I'm sure it is after you dump 500 dollars on one after someone on youtube told you so.
Luke Parker
...
Jacob Torres
>explain that i already did. see >people who believe they see a difference are just deluding themselves because they already spent the money and don't want to admit they've been jewed.
Samuel Hill
>bestbuy also, I'm not there so I can't diagnose the problem
I think the difference becomes much less noticeable very quickly. For example I overclocked my 60hz 1080p to 72hz and it really does make an improvement in games. Going from 72hz to 120hz I doubt would matter as much.
Oliver James
the fuck? Why would you have to overclock it? My piece of shit asus monitor can already do that just by using a different modeline. Makes absolutely no difference at all.
Aaron Myers
yeah nobody is arguing about whether the pc is able to drive the monitor, but nothing in there tells me what cable they were using.
Elijah Adams
Specs look ok actually but I can't promise that this setup you have at bestbuy is perfect. Perhaps it's molested. If it's set up right there in public as display, remember that lots of people before you have used it and may have molested it in some way. Only way to tell is buy it and try it at home. You can always return it if it doesn't work. You could always try different model.
Anthony Wood
Like I said I adjusted it myself many times. These things are locked down hardcore so it's not like you can fuck with them beyond doing simple shit like changing the resolution.
Jonathan Lewis
ok, if you say so. I'll just go ahead and enjoy my 144 hz monitor over there
Henry Rivera
and you have to ask yourself what's more likely: A fake displayport cable that can somehow operate at 144hz according to the operating system and monitor or a bunch of stupid fucks on the internet claiming the latest shit they bought is the greatest shit ever.
I will gladly buy a gold plated 1000 dollar cable from amazon and go back and hook it up if you want me to.
Blake Nelson
Switching from 60 to 144Hz is immediately noticeable on my screen. Everyone can tell. Whether you think it's necessary is a different question
I suggest you try playing Beat Hazard Ultra on 60 vs 120. Should be noticeably better at higher difficulties
Isaac Richardson
thankfully I've been blessed with 60hz eyes so I can continue buying shitty monitors.
Hudson Butler
Sounds like you did something wrong, the difference between 144hz and 60hz is massive.
Lucas Cooper
there wasn't anything to do.
John Barnes
R-tard alert
Isaac Taylor
recently got myself a 75 hz freesync display to pair with my radeon and its literal perfection 60 fps is buttersmooth already, then you get that nice little 25% boost with 75 hz and it was cheap af too
Ethan Anderson
If it's a FreeSync monitor then you are a retard and it needs to be disabled. Nvidia cards don't support it and you need to get a gsync capable monitor if you want the low latency and no screen tearing or else deal with vsync. Also make sure it's enabled in the Nvidia control panel or else it's not gonna work
David Brooks
Kek >the retarded store demo didn't work so obviously it's a meme that doesn't work ever Obviously why all the pro gamers use 144hz on their own setups, because it doesn't work amirite
Nathaniel Hughes
Went from 75 to 120 and it is still noticably better. Still a lot smoother imo. Tried a friend who had his at 180 hz and couldn't really tell a difference though.
Jayden Jones
Or perhaps the fact that it's a FreeSync monitor on an Nvidia setup might tell you they don't know what the fuck they are doing
Jose Ross
wtf does freesync or gsync have to do with it running at 144hz?
Hudson Roberts
it doesn't even advertise freesync it just comes with the monitor.
Connor Williams
>he fell for the 144hz 20ms meme user, thats almost as bad as falling for the ram 3ghz 30-30-30-50 meme
Brody Campbell
Don't feel like a genius now, do you?
John Wilson
Oh we have a Linux using patrician with us.
Jacob Green
wayland doesn't even support anything other than 60hz
Levi Torres
also, it's fucking free and you're already making a 144hz monitor, why wouldn't you put it in? Maybe later on you get an amd gpu and use it?
Nathan Hernandez
Never cared about getting a high refresh rate before since 60 seems fine to me, but just googled it and watched some YouTube videos showing 60 vs 144 Hz. Literally can't see the deference. Even went through frame by frame and it looks the exact same.
Alexander Hughes
Nice copypasta. However, I will say that of all the memes that I've checked out, 144hz is the only meme that's ever checked out for. Drives me a little crazy because now 60fps doesn't feel as smooth as it once did. There is a diminishing return though. The difference between 60hz and 144hz isn't as big as the jump from 30hz to 60hz. I've never seen a 240hz monitor, but I imagine I could use one without noticing it.
Adam Carter
>Do LCD monitors have a refresh rate? >The closest equivalent to a refresh rate on an LCD monitor is its frame rate, which is often locked at 60 fps. But this is rarely a problem, because the only part of an LCD monitor that could produce CRT-like flicker—its backlight — typically operates at around a minimum of 200 Hz.
All these dumbasses lol
Gabriel Perez
i know and on a crt 75hz is pretty much fine
David Hill
Turn off window shadows and transparency. Window's window manager is a fucking mess.
Brayden Bennett
An optician takes your prescription, measures your face, and sells you glasses. An optometrist writes that prescription by refracting you, and checks for retinal diseases while they're at it. An ophthalmologist is a surgeon who will remove your cataracts or fix your squint.
Someone who is not familiar with these three terms may well conflate them, and in my opinion defaulting to "eye doctor" is better than just picking one at random. For example, in the UK many people say "optician" when they mean "optometrist".
Adam Ramirez
>It even said Freesync was also enabled which was strange considering it was running an Nvidia card Then you admit the test setup was broken?
Noah Gonzalez
the majority of high end monitors are going to come with some sync shit now regardless of whether you want it or not, just like all tvs come with 3d shit even if you don't use it. It would probably cost more to find one without it.
Christian Johnson
If the monitor said Freesync was on and it wasn't an AMD GPU, something was wrong.
