What is the best leather strap hole puncher?

Also is there anything more to adding holes to a cordovan strap other than putting a hole in it?

A KNIFE

Testing complete. Some initial observations
> Modern mechanical movements do pretty well. Even the low-end miyota movements (in the aevig and the shi chen) perform well (I blame my winding pattern for the shi chen stopping twice) - the aevig would easily qualify as a chronometer if it were regulated a few seconds slower.
> The cosmotrons (7803a movements) perform very well. These are still mechanical movements at their core - they use a hairspring for timekeeping; the electric nature simply removes any isochronism. The cosmotron brown, for example, is easily a chronometer even by modern standards, and the blue isn't far off (just M9/M10 disqualifying it)
> The seiko 45KS, which has performed astoundingly well on the timegrapher, did not perform up to my expectations. It makes me a bit wary of drawing too many conclusions based on instantaneous rate measurements on a timegrapher
> Some of my watches perform very poorly. Turns out unserviced vintage watches don't keep as good time. On the other hand, the cosmic, for example (a recently serviced omega 613, which was not a high-grade movement originally, let alone a chronometer) did fairly well - if it were simply regulated up ten seconds, it would qualify for modern chronometer status if you rounded down D by 0.1.
> This was more annoying than I had originally anticipated. When I do this again I might try to not do twenty-some watches all at once.

I posted all the data in CSV at this pastebin for anyone who's interested.

Told you not to buy that garbage bro

Bad light

oh, another observation for anyone who's thinking about doing this: if you don't carefully set the watch initially so the minute hand is on a minute marker when the second hand is at 60, you'll spend the next two weeks trying to figure out if the watch is running 15 seconds fast or 45 seconds slow.

YOU NASTY FUCKERS

...

>not shitflake

I need a puncher that starts at 1mm

Why do the replica forums have better watch repair experts than the gen forums?

...

Thanks for all the work you put into this. My guess as to the discrepancy you saw with the 45KS is the effect of falling amplitude as the mainspring unwound from full wind vs an instantaneous reading at full wind, in general I believe that isochronism is an area where modern mechanical movements have improved a lot over their vintage counterparts. My 52 KS has a much smaller positional delta at full wind that half.

That being said, that 45 KS still managed to pass modern COSC chronometer standards, which is pretty awesome.

...

because they are more likely to take things apart and swap pieces.

wtf is this
is it just a sloppy fake?

how does this even happen

what is wrong with that strap
a hot knife

>drop off Omega at boutique for service
>3 weeks for them to tell me that the watch is ready for servicing
>process will take between 6 and 8 weeks
>process is currently on hold until they receive some parts for it

the fuck

at least the chinese girl at the boutique who took care of me was nice to look at.

Replied when thread was dead... On the topic of Junghans

I am thinking the manual wind model at the stock MSRP from watchbuys. Are they just generic ETAs thrown into german cases or ?

Generic v7750 in the Max Bill.

I measured +7spd on my timegrapher before I sold it.

Should I go for the navy or black?

I already have a Movado museum (yeah I know) which is black.

Black goes with more. But what ever floats your boat.

My wife wants to buy me a nice watch for our anniversary. something around $600. Something "nice and handsome and manly" that she could maybe get engraved. I currently have a ~$120 Fossil watch, meaning I know fuckall about watches. Any suggestions?

Seiko Sumo

The intramatic is worth a look at least.

Honestly I would go something like this and get it engraved. Not exactly many in the sense of Hunter gatherer but is a very "refined" sophisticated watch.
seiyajapan.com/collections/seiko/products/seiko-dolce-quartz-sacm171
This for similar reasons as above

only 600? enjoy your lower middle class pleb shitter

go engrave a seiko lol

>seiyajapan.com/collections/seiko/products/seiko-dolce-quartz-sacm171
LOL SOYBOYS OUT IN FORCE

>here go make an heirloom out of this worthless macy's watch

>worthless macy's watch
Make your bait less obvious, the Sumo was at least a sensible choice to make fun of for an anniversary gift.

Yeah I was leaning to black for that reason but since the Movado is already black maybe blue would be a better pick... dunno why I'm debating so much over a

Thanks, I was looking at the handwound ones (not chronoscope) and not sure if I can justify the price.

Come on mate apply yourself.

black is the only one with day/date wheels that match the dial

I've always been curious. I have pic related, and I don't understand buying a device that only does one thing and cost so much. Is it a status thing or something? Smartwatches do way more and the most expensive one (minus crapple watch) is like $350.

all smartwatches are ugly and gigantic and have no technological aesthetic value

Only parts of smart watches I like pretty much makes it a fitbit. Speaking of which I am bidding on a Alta HR to wear on my right wrist.
Reminder that now is the time of year to buy unwanted Christmas gifts that have been opened and tried a little and are "like new".

I really like the look with a blue/white NATO strap - but unsure if it actually looks good.

I mean if you think they're ugly, I won't argue with you. That's your opinion. But don't be mad that they won't fit on your manlet wrist

I got a Moto 360 when it came out. I don't think they're necessarily ugly but there is really no craftsmanship or quality on smartwatches. When you look at a nice watch (and they can be inexpensive too) the dials, the case, etc just make the difference.

>manlet
will they ever learn?

vimeo.com/6780321

>/fa/

this looks way better than the alpinist desu
I mean the green is unique and flashy, but I have a watch with a similar green and it doesn't go with anything

>so new you can't link to another board

>manlet
Wristlet

>mfw 8.5 inch wrist, srs

Mine are about that, measuring with a tape on one hand was 8.75 but a bit loose because I couldn't hold it tight and take a pic.

Does storing your watches in the dark damage lume somehow or it doesn't matter?

Can anyone comment (owners) on the durability of Junghans crystals?

really good, and cheap dear friend
please review perfect thank you!

dial feet break off

fuck, I thought it was /csg/ for a moment

Lume is like the mushroom; the longer you keep it in the dark, it will grow and eventually infest the entire dial (look it up).
Paradoxically, light is actually bad for lume, even though it is itself luminous.
UV light will kill lume like any mold.
Keep lume always in a cool, dark space and away from sunlight.

...

what the fuck am i reading

Any Seiko SARB

get the black. then polish that bezel up.

THICC

Well done mate, interesting read

good job user

I like the look of this but it's pretty small
This is a different 5 but even this is a bit small

cream

just get a mi band

What is this?

most 5s are the same size, 'scale' is fine for my 6.5" wrist

10/10 this is awesome.

that quartz accuracy tho

watch lume is one hell of a drug

where did you get the strap?

I feel like there are people in this thread who will take it as fact, I’m expecting r/Watches to have a PSA about it soon

Serious question — why isn’t North aligned with 12 o’clock? I don’t think I understand how these work.

you can turn it with the bottom crown.

it rotates

...

Won an auction on a “grail” watch yesterday :3

Its a project watch but everything about this is just perfect in my eyes

My Mako II
Whats the difference between the Mako and the Ray? Besides a few design differences

>Besides a few design differences
Nothing.

Nice watch, user. What all do you need to do to it?

The dial is a bit dirty, and the acryllic is scratched, besides that the movement Probably Needs a service, and a new strap

at a local watchmaker shop, was meant for my late pop's vintage Seiko with 19mm log width but ended up on this.non-branded but genuine leather, good match?

I'm working on a cheapshit watch right now and it has a Miyota GP10, that's like $15-$20 at maximum.

It has a better executed large date complication than that garbage from ALS that gets posted here sometimes.

What's the worst that can happen if I set it to "gift"? I'm tired of getting raped by customs.

That's pretty neat.

Orient Bambino Small Seconds

$325

>tax evasionis defined as the purposeful, illegal attempt to evade the assessment or the payment of ataximposed by federal law

...

If only they had the balls to get rid of the date.

Date is dope

The first day I wore my first watch someone asked me what the date was at work and all I had to do was glance at my wrist, instantly made the purchase worth it.

F91w just arrived. Aweee yeah.

a breggay classick with a decisecond subdial

It looks like shit.

A date complication is useful, but this one is terribly executed.

Just bought one, too bad it's going to be months before I have a use for it

What is the most aesthetic and durable divers watch for ~150$

literally just the dial and bezel

dunno about being the best fit for a pilot watch but it's good quality at least

and hands and bracelet
