I've been browsing Sup Forums for a while now, and I can attest this much : there are people overly paranoid about shills, botnet (a term they use without even knowing it's meaning) and big brother. I know this is a technology board so of course I knew that stumbling upon tinfoil hat linuxians would be a common occurrence, but the level of retardation and utter fear of closed source software that can be witnessed here is really something else.
Personally, I've been using Brave Browser both on my computer and my android device, connected to my Google account. For saying this simple statement people will go mad at me and insulting me.
You completely miss the point and the underpinning principle.
Nicholas White
>I know this is a technology board so of course I knew that stumbling upon tinfoil hat linuxians would be a common occurrence, but the level of retardation and utter fear of closed source software that can be witnessed here is really something else. Welcome to Sup Forums, newfriend!
Nathan Mitchell
I'm just highly suspicious that in the course of a few weeks, almost every screenshot has Manjaro in it.
Eli Flores
>I came to Sup Forums expecting normies who didn't care about data mining and the impending dystopia I for one am glad you did not find Sup Forums to be reddit with pics.
Ian Hughes
Really? Well Manjaro now has Macroshit Office online preinstalled...
Nathaniel Davis
Stop using brave OP, use UC Browser instead. It blocks ads naturally and it is the quickest navigator for your smartphone. You will have great experience with your favorite websites I assure you
Lincoln Ortiz
Sup Forums is closed source. Yet, open source fags, keep using this site.
Ignore them.
Blake Gutierrez
>use Chinese Botnet Browser fixed for ya
Christian Clark
Oh, really now? Okay, I'll make sure to check it later. Thanks for the advice! It's true that I started noticing some... performance issues on Brave, lately. See, this is what I'm talking about in my OP. You're immediately jumping to conclusions without showing any proof. And, once again, you're using the buzzword botnet
Evan Howard
Except that user actually has a point. UC browser is proprietary.
Matthew Butler
Proprietary software don't necessarily mean that your data is collected. Moreover the app is free so there is no payment included. It's like open source apps but with a more professional vibe
Brandon Russell
Yes. I can't help it, though.
Jackson Adams
>Proprietary software don't necessarily mean that your data is collected. >Moreover the app is free so there is no payment included. You can't possibly be this dumb... How do you think this browser makes money?
Jaxon Turner
But your data IS collected. There were lots of threads about it when some websites reported that UC Browser leaked personal data. Can you at least do some research before shilling it here?
Jordan Howard
t. big brother botnet shill
Jeremiah Cruz
>proprietary >no payment included So, they literally have to sell your data to stay afloat.
James Lewis
Global rule 8. No commercial promotion.
If you see, any shilling, it can only be the mods. Can't really blame them for wanting to supplement their income, seeing Hiro doesn't pay them fuck all. Cheap fucking prick.
>Proprietary software don't necessarily mean that your data is collected. Even quite a few open source applications (Firefox and Atom spring to mind) now have analytics built in. What on earth makes you think it's any different for proprietary software?
Joseph Phillips
>Aren't we overly paranoid about "shills"?
Angel Scott
I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as Linuxians, is in fact, GNUnians/Linuxans, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNUnians plus Linuxians. Linuxians are not operating systems unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNUnian system made useful by the GNUnian corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNUnian system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNUnian which is widely used today is often called Linuxian, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNUGNUnian system, developed by the GNUnian Project. There really is a Linuxian, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linuxian is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linuxian is normally used in combination with the GNUnian operating system: the whole system is basically GNUnian with Linuxian added, or GNUnian/Linuxian. All the so-called Linuxian distributions are really distributions of GNUnian/Linuxian!
James Reyes
Remember, this is a guy who, in that same post, claims that being closed-source gives it a "more professional vibe"
Samuel Gray
>It's like open source apps but with a more professional vibe >professional vibe Last time I used UC browser it pushed news stories into my notifications by default and stuck a search bar in the Android pull down that I couldn't get rid of. If that's professional, I have a virus to sell you.
Lincoln Cox
At first I thought the shilling accusations were stupid and too paranoid but now that I have spoken to a few people in the marketing industry who have to shill daily on even smaller sites I think it is safe to assume when you think it is a shill it is.
Lincoln Taylor
It's an interests boards (a hobby board almost), and the whole point of the free soft ideology, unless you're a FSF shill, isn't to burn down your brand new ultrabook, buy a thinkpad and sit in the middle of nowhere leeching off your neighbours satellite internet while using tor through 3 chained proxies. It's a conscious decision to bring soft more under your control when possible. Sup Forums culture always magnifies these things into total flamewars, so just try to mute down the posts. They might be a shitpost, but just like with jokes, there is a core of a thought somewhere there. So extract it, and throw away the fluff. Unless you like fun.
Gabriel James
Isolated case and easily identifiable
Nicholas Robinson
Let me give you a small analogy. Would you be ok with someone else setting up surveillance cameras in your house to monitor your every action? Of course not, that would be an invasion of privacy. So why are you ok with being spied on through your computer and cellphone then?
Ian Wood
>online >installed
Chase Williams
Of course, that's a valid point.
Chase Carter
>It blocks ads naturally
But Brave organically blocks ads. It blocks them right from the glacier source rather than a water treatment facility
Anthony Phillips
Chrome is a marvelous way for Google to keep the Web on a leash. Actually, mining data with it would make them run the risk of getting caught spying on people and losing market share i.e leverage on Web standards.
Juan Myers
I thought your search results were based on stuff you access often. Spotted the pajeet.
