that's a pretty solid album even with all its filler

pic related is what actually killed prog

but it's not dead

Nah. It was a valiant effort but what really killed prog was pic related.

Except good prog albums continued to get made, even today.

The whole punk killed prog thing was a myth and didn't make sense anyway since prog wasn't even mainstream when punk broke out.

>good prog albums continued to get made, even today.
Can we get some examples?

but the entire album is just one big filler

The discipline trilogy wasn't released till the 80's its not all that recent but prog stayed around for a while, it just got a little poppier before DT came and sucked the soul out of it.

Gazpacho desu senpai

If Gazpacho are prog then Coldplay are prog

What are you talking about

Prog rock was already dead by then

Kinda sad since the album right before this is still the best thing to ever come out of prog.

How does one go from making an album where each an every second of it had purpose to one with so much filler?

Punk didn't kill prog, prog was already dying on its own. Punk was more an effect of the death of prog.

Frances the Mute

nice meme

Best prog album of 2016 coming through.

Didn't Steve Wilson already release an album this year?

My case still stands

4 1/2 is decent, but its definitely not the best prog album of the year.

>"Leave AOTY to me, user"

It was just leftovers from his last 2 albums, even he doesn't consider it a full album

After December 1973?
U.K.'s self-titled.
Pink Floyd's Animals
King Crimson's Red, Starless and Bible Black, and Discipline
Eloy's Ocean
Camel's The Snow Goose
Van der Graaf Generator's Godbluff and Still Life

being made today? Nothing, it's all shit.

Let's not drone RYM TOO hard now user, there are some good avant-prog, avant-meme-teen records being released.

I still think Ozric Tentacles made a load of good Prog Rock albums and the good ones came out as late as the early 90s.

They're new-agebient
Every song sounds the same too!

Fuck I hate that album so much.

epic, my friend. I'm feeling a decent to strong 9 on your meme magic

Yeah they do all sound the same, just because it formulaic doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable. I'm not saying it's great, I'm just saying they made good music.

The Power To Believe is a great prog album and it came out in 2003

why are supergroups always such garbage?

Yes is for plebs, same as Rush.

You seem to've forgot 'Relayer' was made after 'TfTO', not before.

this.

>formulaic
>prog
hmmm...

Yes might be for plebs but this is the best prog album, nothing surpases it (though some PF and KC do equal it).

>this is the best prog album
It's the best if you're a pleb and haven't listened to much prog.

You're kidding right? This is the most beautiful album in existence. Its cheesy and dated, sure, but its fucking beautiful. Also the first 4 minutes are blistering.

No, I'm serious as a heart attack.

The band is overrated. Seek more music.

True

True, since not much prog came out this year.

True, definitely one of the best prog albums ever and the best Yes album for sure.

>the band is overrated
I was talking about the album you fuckwit

I prefer Fragile but yeah, it's one of the best prog albums.
with KC's Lark's tongues in Aspic and Discipline, and IMO, Genesis' Nursery Cryme

Both the band, and the album are overrated.

Seek more music.

Also i'm 90% sure I've listened to more prog that you. Fucking Henry Cow fans are such fucking plebs.

Asia is one of the worst bands ever.

this

nope, the album is a 10/10

>Also i'm 90% sure I've listened to more prog that you
I'm sure you have. Doesn't change the fact that Yes is still overrated pleb gateway prog

What about Mirage? And Selling England by the Pound > Nursery Crime

'CttE' is very well-executed, but -- it's not even overlistening, it's just too point-A-to-point-B. I would definitely take 'Sound Chaser' over it.

Nice to see some love for NC.

Yes is gateway prog
Yes is arguably "pleb" (that being said it definitely doesn't fit the style of music I like)
Yes is an overrated band
however, CTTE is the epitome of prog

Never could get into Genesis outside of Winds and Wuthering and SEbtP.

Most good prog are either by the well-known surface level prog artists (usually only a few specific albums from each, KC notwithstanding) or the extremely obscure artists from France and Austria and stuff. The middle ground artists are usually trash, obscure prog from England or the US is usually trash, and as prog bands got older they almost always ran out of ideas.

Is CTTE the best vocal performance of all time?

On prog? dunno, but its pretty friggin good. The album is very well polished
