Trying out Linux for the first time (VM)

Trying out Linux for the first time (VM).
Did I choose correctly?

Should have gone KDE instead

That looks like KDE.

No no, it's that X something.

Took me a while to figure out how to take a screenshot, lol.

How do I check the running processes? I want to kill Steam.

to shut down steam right click its tray icon.
also check your software center app thing for a task manager because i dont know it manjaro xfce has one by default

htop

Task manager, start typing steam

The start menu is there, click on that shit and search for sytem monitor. They also have manjaro user guide for noobs.

ps -ef
or
killall steam

weird. Steam won't turn on no matter what.

What's that desktop?

why would you recommend a beginner terminal based software
launch steam-runtime from the terminal, itll print out any error messages

Remove it.

The desktop environment is the KDE, with the Manjaro skin. The wallpaper is one of the stock KDE ones I think, either that or it's the stock Manjaro one.

>why would you recommend a beginner terminal based software
terminal is more intuitive than finding random buttons, all you have to do is type htop and hit f9 on steam. i also have no idea what else is an option.

ksysguard is the KDE process/system monitor. It should already be installed.

>Manjaro now has (or will soon have) Microsoft Office Online installed by default
Lel

Launch it in the terminal to see what errors it has.

should've gone with ubuntu, fedora, or even antergos if you want to go the arch way

manjaro still seems not very well polished to me

...

So then download that driver

There's so many unnecessary packages that comes default with Manjaro. I hate it.

Oh this crap. On the Arch wiki to the Steam/Troubleshooting page. That error is something to do with Steam packing it's own versions of common system libraries that have slightly incompatibilities. Long story short you need to either A: delete the binaries it brings along or B: launch it using steam-native and install the "steam-native-runtime" meta package that contains all the dependencies Steam expects.

that looks really really pretty actually

If it works - yes. That's simple.

>that shitty distro which is based on the shittiest NEET distro.
You made a terrible move.
Delete that shit from your HDD, download and install debian or any of it's flavors instead or even straight out fucking ubuntu if you so desire.

>majaro
dont complain about linux when it fucks up

if you do this you can enjoy 5 year old binaries on a private computer

Mangina is never the answer

i had the same problem this fixed it
LD_PRELOAD='/usr/$LIB/libstdc++.so.6 /usr/$LIB/libgcc_s.so.1 /usr/$LIB/libxcb.so.1 /usr/$LIB/libgpg-error.so' /usr/bin/steam
then let it update

i've been using manjaro with xfce for a good while now, never had any real issues at all. its great. literally just use whatever you like and works for you. this board is full of massive autism. this site is literally the most toxic place to get any kind of information whatsoever. also niggers.

That's xfce brouh

Use arch with no de, then run this larbs.xyz for a pre riced i3. Super comfy

Will it run as shitty on a real PC, as it does on the Virtual Machine?
