PayPal/Venmo AMA

Not sure how the board is about techie AMAs, but figured I'd give a small one a go.

Hello world, OP here; I am an agent under the employ of PayPal, to work on their app Venmo. I am an account specialist, with responsibilities in designing a particular client-side program to make life easier and more streamlined for my fellow agents.

If you have questions about just about anything Venmo related, I can tell you straight out or find out. If you have questions that can't be answered immediately (i.e. "Why am I Banned?"), I can save these answers and report back in a new thread early next week (likely Sunday/Monday night). Hit me.

Shill pls go

Not a shill, just another sheep like ye

How does Venmo make money? do they skim off the top? always been skeptical of it, yet used paypal for years

Serious questions.
Why did you think this thread was a good idea?
Why should we believe that you are who you say you are?

We get that less often than I expect, desu. Venmo doesn't charge users any fees, as you'd imagine, but we have connected with several thousand business partners, so that you can use Venmo as a payment method for those businesses. Forever21, for example, allows you to buy their stuff online using Venmo. We charge the businesses a wee fee for this, but frankly, Venmo is a money sink for now.

Fuck off PayPal.

Does Venmo report any of the user's income to the IRS? Is there a certain amount you hit then you get sent a 1099?

shut up retard
shut up retards, we finally have an interesting thread
OP, what's going on with ebay dropping paypal and what are your thoughts on it? What is paypal next move? Surely ebay was your biggest client.

to add to that, I got scammed on ebay/paypal about 6 months ago but was too lazy to do anything about it even though it was a $300 sale. What are my odds of still getting it back?

I believe that users who genuinely want to hear about this stuff should be able to ask and receive. If you don't like it, you do not have to be here.
Believe me or not, here I come. But if I can answer everyone's questions truthfully using non-public knowledge, that should say something, no?

:<

Thank you.

cool, yeah I've only used it as a peer to peer exchange. makes roommate bills/rent v easy!

other question: how's your gig pay? i know i could glassdoor that shit but whatever, rather hear from the horse's mouth

Funny thing about that drop. They told all of us about that in our system-wide "Urgent Messenger" system; we are still providing services for eBay through June 2020 as far as we know, and PayPal could not care less. We have other, secret (world domination) plans, this does not affect us nearly as much as most might think,

PayPal takes such things seriously. A user being scammed, and then waiting a long time, will definitely make the process more difficult, but by no means impossible, especially since the amount is in the triple digits.

not good

Certain countries doesn't have gift option for paypal but what can I do if want that option for my paypal account?

>But if I can answer everyone's questions truthfully using non-public knowledge, that should say something, no?
We can't know if it's true if it's not public information, unless you give some kind of proof. I belive it's customary to have a timestamped pic when you do a ama on reddit same goes here.

Not the best pay, but it offers certain benefits worth many, many thousands of dollars on top of our salaries. It is a little odd, but in short, the salary is low-ish, but the benefits are astronomical.

Depends on your country, user.

What do you propose I take a picture of? Our office is secured in a way that prohibits cameras of any kind, and I don't want to be thrown out by security for taking pictures of my battlestation.

>Forever21, for example, allows you to buy their stuff online using Venmo.
Is that a global promotion or only the US?

Aye, the number one question.

Venmo does not work outside of the United States; all logins outside of the US and her territories are blocked, and users are unable to access their accounts while abroad.

So, that makes this and every offer US only by default, aye?

No shit, but what can I do if the option is not there and I want it?

That was me asking for which country you're in, because the answer depends (on your country!)

I knew I accidentally skipped one, my bad. Funny thing, we do not report any user's information unless it is absolutely exorbitant. I've seen users who send tens of thousands of dollars a week, and although they SHOULD and are legally required to report that income/payment, we do not police accounts; it is up to the user to do so. We have weekly payment limits of up to $3,000 for basically verified users, and weekly bank transfer limits of $20,000. There is no limit on how much you can receive.

Tl;dr: we don't report your anything on Venmo unless it directly violates federal law (usually via OFAC)

Ok so, what about paypal made in germany?

can you speak on any of these benefits? genuinely curious about what paypal might offer above other companies

Germany is a tricky beast, as he has special laws regarding "free" payments. The gift payments don't have the same buyer/seller protection normal payments do, so making a gift through PayPal does run through various other laws. Every country runs a slightly different legal system regarding these types of payments. I'd have to get back to you on the specifics, if you care to know more.

Well for starters, I can speak of the incredibly friendly and relaxed office space. No SJWs preaching diversity or any such thing, no excess hostility between coworkers, it's a nice relaxed environment, often with a movie (such as one of the Star Wars episodes) or radio playing in the background. The workplace sure does change often... we just put in a minigolf/putting thing in the office for when work stalls. Good times.

Anyway, on actual benefits, certian divisions of PayPal offer different beenfits than others. Mine in particular (as a subset of Venmo) is heavily fond of students, and will pay a pretty good deal of their employee's tuition every semester. Other benefits such as retirement, health, and all of that jazz I can't speak much on (for various reasons), but I can say are at the very least up to par with the industry.

What is Venmo and why do you assume I'd know about it?

Why is PayPal's website so awfully slow? Every single page load takes like 1-2 seconds at the fast end. I don't know any other site that is so consistently slow.

Buy some Request Network bro

This is the Tech board after all, on Sup Forums. Venmo is a peer-to-peer digital wallet that people use to pay each other. Our target audience is generally young people, ages 18-26, who do things with friends (a wide range, there). People use Venmo to split bills at bars and restaurants, to pay rent, to pay back debts, etc.

We've recently received a massive spike in users, commerce, and general business, so the servers have been fluctuating at an increased capacity to match this fact. Should be fixed soon enough, we really do try to keep things sped up.

PayPal touching crypto? lol

>recently
It's been that way since I first started using PayPal, so for at least 2½ years.

>peer-to-peer digital wallet that people use to pay each other
Ah, yet another one of the globalist scams to require people to keep their mark of the beast in order to be able to do anything at all?

How much do you get paid to make a thread on Sup Forums?

How is this a scam, when it is totally free for the consumer in all ways?

$0.00, friend. I'm glad shilling isn't an actual thing like so many channers believe it is for some reason, though it only really happened once due to a corrupt political campaign. Not every company is a corrupt capitalist brainwashing machine, goy

A lot of people shill for free on here, at least you're not alone!

ITT: larping and redditors

>How is this a scam, when it is totally free for the consumer in all ways?
Since it fools you to think it is better than hard cash.

it has been terrible after the redesign. it used to be simple and fast but now its full of slow javascript and html5 responsive design memes like every other site.

and they added a stupid autoplaying video on the front page that no one cares about

It was terrible for me even before the redesign, performance-wise. While I can't say I enjoy the obviously mobile-centric redesign, I didn't exactly enjoy the old page design either. IMO, PayPal has been second only to Dell in having a bad website.

>Not every company is a corrupt capitalist brainwashing machine, goy
>goy

And with that, I am disregarding this thread entirely as a LARP circle jerk. A damn shame.
