/pcbg/ - PC Building General - R3 edition

News: Ryzen APUs will release on Feb. 12. The 2200G (99USD) and 2400G (169USD) are similar to the R3 1300X and R5 1500X respectively, but they have integrated graphics. The 2200G has 8 Vega CUs and the 2400G has 11 CUs, so they're in the same performance tier as the RX 550 (8CUs) or GT 1030. They both only have one CCX.

repostin. not interested?

I am excited.

>estimated tax
shit... I forgot about tax. I might have to rethink my build. It's already at the top of my budget.

Nice purchase though. Assuming someone didn't just repackage their old mining card.

I think the chance of that is low seeing how I brought this straight from amazon.

Is the GPU a bottleneck in this?

Nope. Not interested, faggot.

id consider spending a bit more on a better PSU

Around $1000 US Budget, already have peripherals.

Looking at this, where can I put some more money in for the most benefit?
pcpartpicker.com/user/pcbg/saved/#view=w6vK8d

>where can I put some more money in for the most benefit?
In a Cat5e cable.

Also, consider Ryzen.

Buy "Z" motherboards is not very cost efficient with locked CPUs. Either get the 8600K or wait for the "H" motherboards to drop.

That said, you can also go for Kaby Lake Pentium chips if gaming is the only concern. They will perform better than Ryzen at lower price.

All parts delivered. First time assembling despite having 2 systems before. Nervous as fuck, wish me luck bois.

Been Googling this a bunch and have read through a bunch of opinions on forums spanning through the years. Want to know /pcbg/'s take.
When overclocking your system, is subjecting it to strenuous stress tests (from overnight to 24+ hours) still the only foolproof method, or is it something the old folk just kind of brought on? Regardless of how mild the OC or if only using the system to play games—that don't have the name Battlefield in them—and not exhaustive tasks like folding, video rendering, etc.?

In the middle of overclocking my CPU and memory for the first time and am currently just running Cinebench 5 times in a row with no breaks (if fail, change something),10 Very High runs on IBT, then an hour of AIDA.
Memory has been passing fine through 400% (0 errors) on HCI MemTest and 1 hour (0 errors) with Google's stressapptest through Bash (github.com/stressapptest/stressapptest).

According to many online I'm only doing the bare minimum while others say just using the PC with one's normal load usage is enough, only tinkering with it if you come across an error down the line. So which is it for the modern day?

Go intel instead of poozen. Everything just werk.

Good luck and have fun, user. That's a pretty pricey build for one's first. I'm envious.

So what are you working with on the B350? Or you haven't actually switched yet?

Question about bottlenecking I got a system with an i5-4670k 16gb ram and a gtx 1080ti but often get sub 20fps in some games. The i5 should be more than powerful enough I would have thought but could the 1080 excessive power be tanking the CPU?

what games? and no i5 shouldn't be bottlenecking

Pubg, fortnite and raindow 6 asking for friend it's 1080p 60hz monitor.

I'm stuck for reasons why FPS would be so bad with such specs

How can I see how many hours/years of life my mobo has experienced?

Is this good?

No, go for a XFX or EVGA PSUs if you're on a budget.

Shame. I kinda like the orange colored VS letters. Welp

>getting sub 20 fps in fortnite
something's wrong on your end, i got ~60fps in fortnite on a stupid intel igpu.
obligatory: check if monitor is plugged into the gpu and not the mobo, update your drivers etc. just google "gpu underperforming" and you should have a lot more solutions, iirc some windows 10 updates can cause fps to tank but dont quote me on that

For what it's worth, my i5 4570 shoots up to 100% usage while playing siege. It's a known problem, but I don't think there's a solution.

pcpartpicker.com/list/ZXCfM8

The last thread I posted in I was told to switch out the 120mm fans I had for 140mm, so I did. Anything else I can do? I already bought the 1050 so that's the one that's going it my computer for now until GPU prices go down.

I can't get my pc to connect to the monitor, I'm using the HDMI output :/
Help a noob out

any reason for that ram? there's 3000mhz pcpartpicker.com/product/wTCrxr/gskill-memory-f43000c15d8gvrb for the same price.
also get a bigger ssd. mx500 for $17 more has double the capacity

Probably bait but, unless you're running an APU or the the like you'll need to hook that up to your GPU instead.

I don't speak nerd language. Simpler terms please. What cable do I need?

put the cord into the hole

Can I get a quick rundown on budget CPU coolers and thermal paste?

Planning on getting an I5 8400 standard clocking.

You've plugged the came into the motherboard.
Plug it into the graphics card. Ryzen chips don't have integrated graphics

>came
cable. Fucking autocorrect

LOL thanks

Ryzen doesn't have an iGPU

How did you know I had a Ryzen

Because Intel chips have (shit) integrated graphics and you wouldn't be bitching about no monitor signal then.

I've gotten almost everything else for my build minus the cpu cooler and storage, smaller things. Not a budget build and for gaming, and mostly for dick waving. Anyway, 8700k or 1700x, or even 1800x should I find one for a reasonable price? Using a 1080ti.

I just ordered it last night m8. And not sure what you mean by that - the rest of my rig or what am I doing with it? Nothing but shitposting, vidya, and sometimes painting - will be neat to try painting/sculpting in VR. As for rig, Corsair Carbide 300R windowed case (regret it) with their CX750M PSU and AF120 fans, XFX Radeon RX480 GTR 8GB GPU (so fucking glad I bought it for $250 before shit hit the fan), three Western Digital 1TB HDDs and an ancient 500GB Seagate HDD. Cheap Dell 24" 60Hz monitor that I never had an issue with, though with the G29 wheel pushing me further away, I might go for something larger, higher resolution, and maybe a little higher refresh rate.

1800X's got real cheap after the MSRP slash on them. 1800X is currently $345, which is $5 under the new MSRP and $155 under the original MSRP

holy shit. clean the room user

JUST.jpg

Why is there a framed picture of a Miata?

Too much effort.
it's muh shitbox

When will crypto die?
youtu.be/bjvYL123w4w

Yes user, you could do it but it would be better to go for a 1050 ti at least, also consider getting a hdd for extra storage and a Seasonic Focus Gold 650 instead of the M12II 520
pcpartpicker.com/list/yqnypG

The GPU prices are getting more and more insane every week. Should I go with 2400G instead of 1050ti? - I'm slowly realizing how shit gayming is. Sister wants to play Life is Strange on 1050p, that's probably the most demanding game I need to run.

560 is better if you're getting Freesync. Otherwise it's a toss up. Nothing really wrong with the 560. And people hated the 1050Ti until the RX 570 was priced out of reach.

>Too much effort.

What do chicks say when you take them back?

Faster ddr4 and a better ssd (mx300 m.2 or mx500)
pcpartpicker.com/product/zgJkcf/gskill-memory-f43200c16d8gvk

>Paying for lighting
>M.2
>Gaming X

>What do chicks say when you take them back?
why must he take chicks home? He drives a Miata. Clearly he loves the D.

Chicks don't care about that stuff. Both my ex gfs didn't complain to me about my messy room.

Although, it's nice that my current gf cleans my room for me.

I just replaced my 770 with a 970 and now my computer is making a pretty loud noise any idea of what it is?
vocaroo.com/i/s0VkgY9Odctz

2400G's Vega 11 should smoke anything at low to medium settings at 1080p, and you can OC both the CPU and GPU to get a bit more performance.

>Paying for lighting
What's wrong with aesthetics?

Also Life is Strange isn't that demanding. My i3 3110M with Intel HD 4000 can run the (((linux))) port really well, but the windows version sucks ass.

*on an Intel HD 4000

Are there any upcoming monitors to replace the current crop of dodgily made 1440p 144hz IPS G-Sync displays? One of my monitors is about 5 years old and I have to run it at a much higher brightness than my 1-year old monitor to keep them looking similar, but they’re also slightly different panels so it’s almost impossible to keep their colors as close as possible. I really want to upgrade but if everything modern comes out of the factory broken then it feels like I’m trapped with my decaying hardware.

And for refence, I have Asus MX239H and MX259H.

>G-Sync
Freesync will rule the day. The cheaper implementation will win out.

Coin mining on Intel HD when?

Can anyone recommend a good (safe) program for connecting a PS3 controller to a PC?

never. Raja Koduri will fail at Intel just as he did at AMD.

just use an XBox 360 controller with the wireless dongle like everyone else.

scp toolkit nefarius fork

however it was recently abandoned and the github made read-only so don't expect fixes. there are upcoming community solutions to replace it.

I would, but I'm too used to the PS and I already have a controller from it.

Thanks senpai I'll check that out. I remember trying it once before and got memed on, but that wasn't scp.

Not your CPU that's the problem. What's your graphics card?

There is no indication that NVidia will ever add Freesync support.

Just a friendly reminder that getting a refurbished office PC with a 3rd or 4th gen i5(i7 if you get a lucky find) and 8-16gbs of ram is the absolute best deal poorfags can get right now.

All you gotta do is throw in a low profile 1050ti.

Nope, Ryzen 2200G/2400G within your budget and 1x8GB 3000MHz stick.

Room to grow instead of buying a refurb DOA turd.

Your also getting graphical performance worse than a 1050 if you do this while also being more expensive.

Amazing for a first build, good luck man

A Corsair TX750M is good and also futureproof for single-GPU gaming, right?

what's wrong with the gaming x trio? Reviews and benchmarks shows that it actually beats strix in terms of temps, noise, and even performance in games (tho it's only like 1 or 2 fps better).

Sure but at that price this would be better
pcpartpicker.com/product/jWFXsY/seasonic-focus-plus-gold-850w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-ssr-850fx

Modern GPUs rarely use more than 250w at full load.

Yes, it is.
Also correct, go with this.
Not Vega

no shit sherlock. Freesync is AMD's equivalent tech that accomplishes the same goal at a cheaper price to implement. Freesync is actually gaining marketshare because it's cheaper to buy and implement. Freesync is also royalty-free.
Nvidia will never implement Freesync because it means putting an AMD logo on their boxes. It's kinda like building the titanic when someone else makes a modern cruiser ship and you're too stubborn to do anything but go down with your ship

Run Vega in power save mode, loses like 5% performance but uses literal hundreds of watts less power

Any actual benefit to windows 10 pro vs home?

Ability to use a VM and a few other specific features. IMO, the VM alone is worth it

Okay, and AMD graphics cards are so rare to find that they basically don’t exist, and they don’t have anything to rival NVidia’s top-range cards.

Couldn't you just use virturalbox for free though?

AMD cards are only rare because miners love them. The 570 destroys the 1050ti and 10603gb, and the 580 is better than the 6gb 1060.
RX Vega 56 is better than a 1070. The RX Vega 64 trades blows with the 1080, and the Vega Frontier Edition out-computes all Titans short of the V. And even then, it's a close fight.
>and they all support freesync

>compute

You don’t run a room-sized supercomputer so who fucking cares

The 2160p 144hz IPS panels should be out this year, but who the hell knows? They first demoed them over a year ago.

M9i is all you need for an 8400. Works great. Step up to an evo if you want but m9i is plenty

>You don’t run a room-sized supercomputer so who fucking cares
machine learning, 3d modelers, and miners.

Stock Intel can handle locked chips, but it may get a bit noisy. The $20 212 Evo should run that thing near silent.

Then you wouldn't be buying a 1050 at all, you have an iGPU.

Grow up and stop playing games. Just a friendly reminder.

Food for thought: Ryzen 5 1600 is a pretty similar cpu that comes with a great stock cooler with preapplied thermal paste if you really need good value for a budget

Oh, so you're the same butthurt guy who keeps replying to my post telling people to get a console. What's your problem? What can possibly be triggering about my friendly reminder posts?

Don’t kid yourself, you don’t have a need for machine learning on your home PC.

Because Sup Forums is ruining this thread and your enabling them.

I'm not the console guy, I'm the 2200/2400G guy.
Haven't seen the console guy, but he's probably right if you're looking to just game.

>implying you aren't the same person

and you have no need for a 1080ti. You get one because you want one.
