Best Anti-Virus?

What's the best anti-virus program?

Any good free paid ones?

Tried Bitdefender and NOD32, NOD32 seems expensive but overall better.

Try Baitdefender or CommonSense 1.1 for starters.

Shouldn't it be NOD64 by now?

JUST

Wow. You must hate OP like the Islamic State hates rabbis. I might kill or mutilate someone who pissed me off, but inflicting Norton on them is over the line. (It was great for DOS tho.)

Immunet.

you forgot to update common sense

>>Sup Forums tells me antivirus is a meme
I hope you learned your lesson user

This. But if OP is running an AV, chances he is using a non-Unix based system, so it’s all just one big lost cause.

The first video (that common sense might not be enough) have some points but I don't see them as problems for me, but they are problems for a lot of people.
I whish these problems were fixed though, but everyone who work in a large tech company is too scared to piss off people who make malware to combat any of these issues.
But lets go through some of the attack vectors he claim can't be solved without AV.

>false positives / false negatives
This is a tricky problem, but this is a problem with an AV as well.
I think the important thing is to do the checksum check at all. I would love to see a standardized way to publish files and checksums so eg browsers automatically would download the checksum as well and compare it to the file.
>Phishing sites.
This one is on browsers. Firefox have fucked up by never fixing this problem.
1. sites who use http shouid have the same or a similar warning to sites which don't have a valid cert.
It should be annoying as hell to use sites which are not secure so every admin collect their fat useless hunk of a body and setup encryption. Death penalty to people who use http is fine with me. FUCK THOSE PEOPLE.
>Malicius advertisements.
Again, browser problem.
Shutting down for javascript exploits is on browsers, adblock is a must these days, but it is not always enough.
>you fuck up
You can always use sane backup policies so a total shutdown won't take more than an hour or so to recover from.
>Malicius attachements
This problem is more diverse than the other problems.
A good example is PDF.
Whoever thought it was a great idea to extend it beyond documents should be shot, revived and then burned alive while he watches his family get tortured to death.
I would rather live in a world where everyone is forced to share text documents because we cannot figure out how to make documents.
>fake icons
Not a real problem

>1. sites who use http shouid have the same or a similar warning to sites which don't have a valid cert.
Really though we should just remove HTTP as a valid protocol and only support HTTPS, kinda like browsers are doing with HTTP/2.

top.
kek.

sourceforge

GNU with Linux installed.

Imagine a normie or office drone dealing with these problems. They don't know any better. AV is for them.

I mean HTTP has its uses, (as with self signed certs), but all I am asking is to warn the user that there is the potential danger when doing this.
Simply giving people a warning (which then could turn off the thing forever if needed) is enough. A site with such a warning which also wants you to login should be enough of a red flag to stop any fishing site which uses HTTP.
Then you only need to crack down on all fishing sites with a cert.
And then crack down on cert authorities if needed.

As I see it, it is a solvable problem.

Linux

:^)

typical freetards, learn you are not immune please.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_malware#Threats

You need to install these:
Linux
uBlock Origin + uMatrix
Firewall
Common sense 2018

We are immune. We download programs from certified distributors, automatically.

please update your common sense.. cause holy fuck you're an idiot

>NOD32 seems expensive
You can literally chain 1 year trials

Windows Defender

common sense and windows defender
as if I need to install a third party anti virus for literally no increase in detections

This. Holy shit if people are actually dumb enough to take anything here seriously without researching stuff themselves.

Mind spoonfeeding me?

>being such a plebe that you have to use anti-virus to stay safe on the internets
The absolute state of nu/g/

Now post the list of Windows malware wintard. A few dozen compared to millions on windows is still safer than windows.

install gentoo

Literally google nod32 1 year trial keys and go to the first result

Ok Reddit.

the point wasn't which has more, just disproving the myth that Linux doesn't have that shit.

That's it? that's all you have? ok.. thanks I guess for not lumping me in with delusional idiots like you

ClamWin.

>the point wasn't which has more, just disproving the myth that Linux doesn't have that shit.

Never said Linux didnt have malware. Your just alot more likely to come across malware on windows than linux. And linux actually makes it harder for malware to infect your pc.

Is this your first day on Sup Forums? His point was Linux relies on trusted repos which is much safer than downloading some random exe on Windows.

> nod32tn.blogspot.com/

ESET blocks that adress
KEK.

How are these useful for Linux?

AV protects you from less than 30% of threats. It's useless. Not only that but it's an additional security risk itself since they're datamining you themselves and are not immune to AV disablers and malware targeting AVs themselves.

I personally like Brain 2018, CommonSense Ultimate Suite 2K18 and Keeping Your OS Up to Date 21st Century Edition.

Ublock Origin and Don't Click on Shady Shit v7.9.4.0 are good to have as well.

I think offline computers and getting stuff from companies like keys by post office encrypted by key you get online afterwards once you insert key from post office.

BitDefender just won some large test.

Doesn't work sometime
t. Windoze X peasant

Install me on your computer, to protect your data better

lol bonzi buddy was teh shit

Infinite loop incoming.

>How are these useful for Linux?
Just use ClamAV then, OP is probably using Windows.

I haven't used an antivirus in 7 years in any of my computers and I have never gotten any malware
You just gotta not be retarded

GNU with Linux installed or even better Linux libre.

this to me is not the only factor, there's performance and privacy policies too. Bitdefender seems good in performance too, but I have no idea of the privacy. I know people here meme that there's no privacy using AV, but hey they do differ in some ways, some offer better policies than others. I found av-comparatives made one chart about those, but that doesn't involve some of the great AV's like emsisoft and the categories are pretty minimum. One could go and read the policies on each AV's sites, but that takes time..

Any idea on the privacy side of different Antiviruses?

MSE, ClamWin, Immunet and MalwareBytes are good examples.

made me chuckle

How to spot a neckbeard stuck on Sup Forums
>Common sense meme

Common sense works if you never exchange files and links with anyone.

Also, modern viruses don't play "you're an idiot.wav" anymore so you can't detect them most of the time. They just stay hidden raking money off you.

Just like
at some point you will venture out of the walled garden of Sup Forums social network and your Sup Forums machine will get infected.

I recommend to use them all, the more the merrier or if you know what you are doing, just use common sense (current year +1)

as for immune see "we are immune"
as for trusted repos, please that's a bunch of bullshit. How many people on Debian based systems have custom repos/ppas? For Fedora did you know that the package is only looked over the first time it is added, after that the package maintainer can pretty much do anything to their package without being watched over?

Just use Windows defender and forget about it. Avast used to be ok but in like 2014 or 15 they went full bloat with their incessant pop-ups
