The point of these threads, is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to, and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.
We track our progress using calendars, which we fill with the albums we listen to on each day and a rating of some sort for all of them. There are templates in the following posts. We encourage you to write the albums' titles and the artists' names somewhere on your calendar. We don't have any tools for creating these calendars, we use simple image editing softwares. You can predetermine a schedule for a month or you can report back on whatever album you randomly picked every day. Many of us make our schedules interesting in various way, popular ones being genre restrictions, new releases, and recs from the /daily/ community.
We had a plug.dj room, which we used to shitpost for a little while. It's now forever empty, so if you want to spend a little time there, it is too late. You can find the temporary substitute here though:
Hello. What is everybody listening to today? I'm gonna finally listen to expansions and probably nyarl's rec (I forgot its name) as well. If I have some more time I'll catch up on either of my charts.
Jordan Walker
I thought this was over.
Writing the review for Death In June that none wants to read soon, thought it was really good
Juan Thomas
I'll read it senpai dij in my jam
Kayden King
>What is everybody listening to today? probably sex noises and whatever noises come up in the non-porn film I watch later this is for Symbols right?
I've listened to it so I'll give it a read, lad
Grayson Hernandez
This I really liked it. Specially the nazi imagery. Thought i'll have to give it another listen so i can make a nice and fancy review. Also is the singer of C93 in some of these songs? Or are their voices really similar
Brayden Green
>Specially the nazi imagery woah bud
Benjamin Edwards
>Also is the singer of C93 in some of these songs? Probably, they collaborated a lot.
Carson Sullivan
Tibet has vocals on Dædalus Rising, Ku Ku Ku, This Is Not Paradise and But, What Ends When the Symbols Shatter?
Anthony Perry
Yep its david tibet alright, they collabed lots. Both are also on Beauty Reaps the Blood of Solitude which is one of the best neofolk albums imo, you should check it out.
>implying the fascist a e s t h e t i c isnt what makes DiJ
Parker Gonzalez
But, what ends? Tibet is there. Daedalus rising or this is not paradise for example iirc. If you dig the album check out Michael Cashmore's (from c93) project, which also has Doulgas and Tibet singing among others.
Lucas Perez
F i n a l l y
Nolan Wood
>(from c93) Does this even mean anything at this point?
Ryan Kelly
what makes you ask that, sdc (from c93)
Connor Young
Expansions is very nice.
Just finished listening to pic related. I'm currently in a choral fascination phase and this one got some pretty damn good parts along with the usual Gubaidulina business with eerie and pulsing string sections.
Isaac Campbell
Memes (from c93)
Robert Parker
Well current 93 is Tibet's project alone but I usually think of Cashmore and Stapleton as core of the band (even if they don't get really involved nowadays). There's of course, McDowall, Boyd, Douglas and all the people Tibet has played with but I don't think of them as band members of current 93 like I do with Michael and Stephen.
Ian Davis
Is this the birth of an epic new meme (from c93)?
Dylan Williams
Oh and I listened to some album from Beat Happening. It was average-ish I guess. You'd fucking hate it. Might listen to either Wayne Shorter or some more McCoy Tyner later today (maybe Coltrane's Meditations or sth)
Lucas Stewart
shit (from c93)
Brody Young
Which one?
Gavin James
Sdc93
Leo Ortiz
which Shorter are you listening to?
Austin Brown
Turn Me On I think? I don't know if that was the exact title. I liked that they changed between the man and woman singing because that man would've been unbearable for 45 minutes, but I didnt find the rest all that interesting. The instrumentation was nicer in the more dreamy parts (I thought these were mostly where the woman sang so maybe it was just because of her voice). Overall I didn't really connect and the lyrics weren't all that interesting either.
Blake Campbell
Haven't heard any yet so either Speak No Evil or JuJu
Henry White
Speak No Evil is great
I bought Juju in Japan but haven't given it a listen yet
Owen Harris
Yeah I got more interested in him when I saw he's on Free For All, which I've been really loving lately.
Eli Nelson
Stapleton is the only one who Tibet himself considered an integral part of the band, but frequent collaborators such as Cashmore and the others you mentioned, as well as Balance, Wakeford, Blackshaw, Wood and many others had significant enough impact on C93s output to warrant a (from c93). Maybe if you exclude those who are more famous for their own projects than for their collaborations with Tibet you'd have a short enough list of (from c93)s to have it actually mean something.
Yes (from c93)
Literally me.
Grayson Gonzalez
I really like that album, but i can imagine why it wouldn't really be something for you.
Would you describe your state of mind as Crowleyesque?
Caleb Ramirez
how does it compare to Moanin'?
James Evans
It's moaning x192939288292
Jaxon Wright
Dog Faced Hermans - Those Deep Buds The main issue I have with this is the tonal inconsistency between tracks, and it is a big issue I quite liked it otherwise
Duke Ellington et al. - Money Jungle Quite lovely small band stuff, which i gather is rather rare for Ellington especially liked the bits with the piano, and the bass, and the drums
Esmerene - Lost Voices again, quite nice post-rock with a slightly higher brow approach than I've come to expect from Constellation bands (i.e Godspeed, Silver Mt etcetera) Really meandering and steady, great for a walk in the park or through city streets
next (I know that I say this every time and never actually do it, but this time I really mean it, for really real.)
Landon Gutierrez
It doesn't. Free for All is hard bop. Very danceable. Plus it has Freddie Hubbard stealing the show.
Austin Harris
Listen to Apocalypse Girl! I relistened recently and while I found it average last year, I really liked it now.
Jackson Ramirez
This is a better answer probably. (Still x382829929584992 tho)
Brayden Turner
99% Crowleyesque 1% Kafkaesque
Carter Wood
isn't Moanin' hard bop too though? >Still x382829929584992 tho Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers strike again
Jason Bailey
3 >Boredoms - Super Roots 8 >noise rock
Not bad, Jungle Taitei has this really great freak folk vibe and the laughter Robot hemp mix is really hypnotic. Didn't care for DJ Let's TRY & D.I.Y. Drum Machine Mix, it didn't work for me.
>Boredoms - Super Roots 9 >noise rock
Livwe!! is a solid track with these lush synth chorus that sound digitally heavenly. Then this killer meditative drum solo comes in almost about have way to mix and mingle with the chorus.
>Boredoms - Super Roots 10 >noise rock
The last of the super roots is pretty joyful with a song ANT 10 that I can't help but personally feel as though it the boredoms take on shopping music, Its the high energy and overall friendliness of the track that gets to me. Breaking off of this track is a series of remixes that blends in with one another that makes this whole album feels like just one track of tribal drumming, digital bleeps/bloops, and chanting.
I'm not even gonna listen to this cause I don't want to spoil the album for myself
I think I'll give it a listen tomorrow
if not tomorrow, then sometime before Monday at least
Aiden Bennett
Both are hard bop, free for all just shows some signs of avant-garde jazz.
Logan Reyes
It's great. Not all that hidden though, especially here on Sup Forums.
Charles Young
I've never met anyone who's listened to it irl, just started going through Sup Forums. I've found a lot of great stuff on here though. I'm doing the 365 challenge and am looking to find some hidden gems. Any other great stuff you've listened to lately?
Colton Johnson
Cool. Iirc Dinosaur Jr.'s frontman was got sent the tapes by her daughter or sth and put them out, so I guess it's mostly his discovery. I made loads of discoveries but don't really know what you like! Tell me some of your favs and I could probably help you more.
Carson Watson
I stayed up late last night watching Björk interviews and performances on youtube, and then I couldn't sleep cos I was so jacked up on magical energy I love Björk so much
If you like Sibylle Baier, check out Jessica Pratt- on your own love again I adore that record
Ryan Anderson
>cos I was jacking off on... FTFY
Austin Rodriguez
Best part tbqh Fucking knew it. His voice doesn't sound as unique as in his own songs (from c93) though
David Cruz
Hey /daily/ today I am shit posting from class because easy shit math why do I even come Listened to Bela Bartok's string quartets last night and I don't really have an opinion because I'm not very versed in traditional classical. I will be doing further listening however so they must have been interesting enough. What to listen to next? I'm thinking chamber or choral but I'm up for anything good / necessary.
Ayden Hernandez
linear algebra is neat
Brandon Phillips

Jose Roberts
No work to do at home today, that's nice.
Have some nice memes lined up, will listen to them.
Jacob Young
it's worth knowing Bartok revived the heavy chromaticism of Gesualdo (300 years before), while also drawing inspiration from the folk music of his native Hungary.
Adrian Thompson
An EthyBoy sneak peak. Feedback?
I really want to emphasize this is the starting point and that diving into the live stuff is where the magic is at, but also I think it's good to be acquainted with the source material and that some of these are still important on their own
Cooper Diaz
maybe do like the King Crimson chart and specify an order for related albums?
Jack Clark
ok friendos, which sounds better for the listenalong?
Stephen David Heitkotter - Heitkotter/Black Orckid (outsider psych/garage rock from early 70s, guy had schizophrenia and is now committed, two 10+ minute tracks) or The Lyman Woodard Organization - Saturday Night Special (p nice instrumental jazz-funk-soul from mid 70s)
David Richardson
Maybe put the essential live albums directly beneath Live/Dead, and movie the comfy area over to the right? That way, the entire left side of the chart is live jam stuff and the entire right is their pop rock stuff.
Easton Peterson
Not a bad idea. Do you have that chart?
Jonathan Russell
first one sounds like it could be great
Landon Lewis
Expansions was pretty good, great atmosphere. Also listened to this swell free piano trio, lots of fun. Pick whatever you prefer and fuck democracy. But in case you don't, second one sounds better for me.
Andrew Reed
Second one. First one sounds like garbage.
Liam Fisher

Luis Gomez
