fuck u
In popular music maybe
But this decade have seen many decent genres being created
Pretty sure you mean the 90's desu
I think you meant the 00s
It's probably the most important decade to what modern music is today.
this
Nah, there was a huge shift away from rock and electronic/synth music toward hip hop and especially this weird new popular fetish with house/club music and that was all established during the 00's.
90's*
house and techno: 80s
hip hop: 80s
alt/indie rock: 80s
even emo emerged in that decade
All modern music was born in the 80s. Deal with it.
house/club music started in the 80's though. same as hip hop (or atleast it got popular then), and electronic/synth music also became the norm in the 80's.
>that was all established during the 00's.
maybe but it started with the 80's.
It was the start of electronic music (I know there's stockhausen and musique concrete from before but the potential of electronic was only fully realized in the 80's and just started going forward since then).
Everyone realizes that when they turn 8
Then you realize it was one of the best if you developed taste
>Nah, there was a huge shift away from rock
Did you even pay attention to the mid/late 80s alternative rock movement? If Nirvana didn't get so big in the 90s and grunge didn't kill it then who knows what other great shit could have happened.
These, the more I think about it the more I realize that at least three fourths of the modern music I listen to is in some way a retread of what happened in the 80s. The 00s were the decade of literally nothing happening outside of really bland p4k core indie "rock" becoming the norm to like.
really though it was shit
I mean aside from Talk Talk everything sounds terribly aged, which isn't the case for any other decade
70's is pretty shit tho
I think everyone here will agree that 2013 was the worst year for music in the last 16 years, t b h.
>tfw you realize you don't like any music pre-1981
2014 was worse
hip hop was born in the 70s
house was a continuation of disco, also 70s
indie was a continuation of punk, also 70s
idk what you mean by emo there but i bet it came from the banshees or something, also 70s
nah, 70's is one of the best decades
80s was the beginning of pop trash.
seriously i dont know how people actually unironically listened to shit like this
shut your whore mouth
2000s was the worst, everyone was too busy fucking around with the internet to make good music.
>these vocals
is this some kind of parody or something
rateyourmusic.com
>it's a "Sup Forums unknowingly hates on the Talking Heads" episode
>tons and tons of amazing underground music
>the mainstream was mostly shit but there was some good new wave and synthpop in it
>objectively the worst decade in music
Kill yourself, pleb.
>you don't like any music pre-1981
You can't seriously be that pleb, the 60s and 70s had tons of awesome music.
On the surface the 80s look the worse, granted, it feels like an era of excess and not much us, silly make up, big hair etc.
But once you get passed that and listen to more 80s stuff you start to realise that 80s was a huge turning point in music and pop culture in general and has a huge wealth of interesting and important music.
Honestly, i think it's the greatest period in pop music, better than the 60s.
that was funky as all fuck.
Desert Rock started in the 80s with Across the River and Yawning Man so it wasn't all bad.
Even the first Sons of Kyuss demo was from 89.
This, the 00s were pretty shit. The vast majority of underground rock was a retread of stuff that was done in the 60s-80s and mainstream rock was post-grunge, pop punk, emo pop and other shit.
00's are the worst, 10's are shaping up worse
who?
I want to say that the 10s are worse than the 00s but we still have 4 years for the 10s to redeem itself
00s at least blog indie going on, which was not great but it felt like something new happening. This decade is completely devoid of ideas.
Every single rock song from 80s was literally just stupid masterbatory bullshit about wanting to rock.
"i want to rock! (rock!) I want, to, rock!"
"Eeeyeyeye, want to rock n roll all niiiiiiight!"
"girls, rock your boiiiis!"
"It's a long way! To the top, if you want to rock n roooooll!"
"rock you like a hurricane!"
And people have to nerve to bitch about rap being retarded.
80s mainstream rock was fucking terrible but 80s underground rock was incredible.
Are you kidding me? Nah mate.
All of the best angry music came out of the 80's.
The 80s were just a worse version of the 00s though.
What the fuck are you smoking? 80s underground rock music is far better than all 00s rock music.
hip hop came from jazz music: 19th century to the 20th century
disco was a continuation from funk: 60s
punk was a continuation of garage and protopunk: 1960s
idk what you mean by blues but i bet it came from 21 pilots or something, also 2010s
you can do this with literally anything, what's important is when those genres actually developed
ITT: people who have listened to less than 27,000 albums that think their opinion on music matters
>lol i only listened to the top 80s album listed on RYM i know my shit!! xDDDD
No it wasn't, faggot. It was everything the 00s had to offer only less fulfilling and fleshed out.
what if I listened to 26, 999 albums
lmao pleb
what the fuck are you listening m8 lmao
this is both objective and correct
>3 of these songs are from the 70s
The 80s didn't have post grunge and nu metal, therefore it can't be the worst decade.
>nu metal
>worst
go back to encyclopedia metallum 15 year old neckbeard. pls.
Kill yourself.
...
>defending Nu-Metal
nu metal > most thrash metal
Shit taste.
One time someone told me on here that some company basically had a monopoly on all commercial and consumer synthesisers in the 80s and that explains why the "80s sound" is so empty yet also recognizeable
You know what decade was really garbage? the 1680s. Wow, thanks Pachelbel, another Cannon in D major that nobody asked for. Just what we wanted, sellout.
>prefering non boring music to shit decaying patch wearing 50 year olds listen to
>bad taste
Man do you think those guys that were total cronies and wrote comp after comp for the church on command, ever got lime really sad and depressed when they were writing that stupid stuff
Also where can I find more composers that blend the art music tradition with folk and native tunes, all of that?? I listened to some of Dvorak and I loved the dam thing!!!!
Nu Metal is anything but non-boring music, save for a selected few bands.
my point was it's a lot less boring than most thrash.
early 2000s pop was GOAT late 2000s was terrible
and the vast majority of underground rock this decade is a retread of stuff done in the past. In fact, most music in general has a fetish for the past.
The rules are
decades before 1910 in decreasing order > decades after 1910 in increasing order
>the 80s were shit
man this is some heavy bait for a thread
>RYM users who have listened to 27,000 albums once each think they know shit about fuck all
lol
>80s was the beginning of pop trash.
You are spelling 50s wrong
there's also smetana who writes that patriotic music. also chopin puts a lot of polish stuff in his music, listen to his mazurkas.
>go back to encyclopedia metallum 15 year old neckbeard. pls.
>enciclopedia metallum
>callinng mallcore (yes, they use the name mallcore for nu metal), metal
Actually its like this
1990 > 2000 > 2001 > 1940 and before decreasing in order > 1950 and after in increasing order
But at least 50s had Doo Wop!!! I love that dang Doo Wop man me and my dad still cruise in his 58 Thunderbird listening to the crows, the Delta rhythm boys, all that good stuff man.
My dad can still do the twist!!!
the teen angst boner against nu metal originated from encyclopedia metallum and teens wanting to 'be cool like the cool metal veterans at metallum'.
I dont get the hate for le wrong generation,
isn't current music, going to be the future le wrong generation?
the anti numetal thing existed since before 2002
>he's from le right generation
you realize we live in an age where classical is non-existent except for conceptual pseud memes, right? and that pap musicians who are considered innovative are literally dude-weed-lmao-tier sound collage artists with limited understanding of structure let alone anything else?
90s>60s>70s>80s>10s>00s
The 930s were way worse.
music died at 9/11 2001
actually it started to die on this day,
oh wait.
if superman on 1985 decide to kill you on the year 2007 and on years 2002 he say he will kill you because you have a green tatoo and people with green tatoo should be killed
did you were killed at at the year 2007, 2002 or 1985
70s>60s>80s>90s
This decade has been awful so far. Easily a contender for worst decade in music.
hair metal was the buttrock of the 80s
But zen arcade, you're living all over me, and those two talk talk albums were released in the 80s
>pixies
are overrated
Artists are always progressing forward, cultivating new ideas and refining old ones. If you think the 2000's or 2010's were shit, then you simply haven't listened to enough music. Art, science, literature... it's all moving forward, and the plebeians who've grown too complacent with what they have will get left behind.
>literature is moving forward
"no"
If you don't, at the very least, think that poetry is moving forward then you're honestly hopeless.
You're overrated.
>Across the River and Yawning Man
Digging this stuff, thanks
kek
what the fuck is all of this kek
>he thinks album is the only format in existence
>he's a learned man
nice b8 faggot
i'm sure you didn't give any examples of good contemporary art because you're one of those elitists who don't like 'spoonfeeding' the plebs
if you were to assume this stance for the benefit of further faggy b8ing, be advised that that is literally the tactic feminists use when they have no argument (i.e. le educate yourself meme)
>implying cinema and literature is moving forward
Name some modern poets who are better than W. B. Yeats.
That's a load of pretentious bullshit and you know it. If art truly did get better over time then all old art would either be forgotten or dismissed.

>tries to prove the pop music of the 80's was shit
>posts fucking genius of love by tom tom club
jesus christ dude you messed this one up
Name some modern rock bands who are superior to all 80s rock bands. Protip: you can't.
Yeah because music is limited to rock iamrite?
