Dumpster Dive Thread

Any good finds lately lads?
pulled a practically new Dell m4600 workstation out of recycling because it only had a dead battery.

i found a skateboard in a dumpster back when i was like 11, that was cool

Where can I go to buy cheap comps?

I got a satellite laptop with Celeron CPU and 2gb of ddr2 for $8 at Flea market for shits n giggles

I dug my first PC out of the trash. Pentium !!, 128MB RAM, two 8GB HDDs. I installed slackware on it and I still have it around running an IRC bot.

>Dell m4600 workstation

That is one aesthetic laptop.

wtf i hate thinkpads now

I've found 2 Intellimouse Explorer 3.0(I only buy one), one Wheel Mouse Optical, 1 Logitech mini optical, 2 old matte apple monitors.

this dyke next to me in one of my classes has one of those. they look kinda neat actually

Lots of computer stuff, actually. Servers, storage, networking, etc.

Lots of racks lately, too, but I don't have room for them.

Oh, and TVs. 60" 1080p flat panels.

Corporate campuses are the best.

i once grabed a 40" vizio tv with a cracked lcd that was next to a dumpster, drove 10mins and sold it for $25.

Some HP dual core laptop with broken hinges but otherwise working.

>buying thinkpads for the aesthetics

found this

>Dell m4600 workstation

>posts mostly cases
>no solid info on whats inside each machine

Oh hey I remember the original thread you posted this on.

My apartment's electronics recycling room is a goldmine for crap late at night. To date I've found:
-Some 5 year old Panasonic micro 4/3 camera
-Some old dreamcast games
-Some old video cards (GeForce MX400 and shit)
-Working wii
-32" late model Trinitron
-3x Dell 2007FP 20" 4:3 IPS ultrasharps
-BRAND NEW SHRINKWRAPPED IN BOX Linksys WRT1900ACS router

>lazer machine
What is this?

It's much thicker and heavier than the thinkpad equivalent though

that's tight. pretty sure i almost bought that one a few months ago, is it a 17 inch display? 16:10?

Did you actually take anything interesting? That dual core precision is boring (unless it's a dual CPU one)

It's specs are basically identical to the thinkpad W520. Has a better cooling solution but is also much thicker.

we're more interested about guts. if you could open up that lazer machine that'd be dope. you can do cool shit with lazers.

I found a dead hooker once and a half eaten mars bar. It was a gud day.

In my town, nobody throwing hardware out dumpster. Please stop fixing precious shits faggot.

i found a toshiba satellite 1995 from much uni dumpster

the thing was a piece of shit but the content was really interesting: it was dedicated to researching pregnant teens which was super weird.

nothing to be found here and people arent allowed to take anything from the facilities that have something.

>out of recycling

Where?

>tfw you work at place which throws out god-tier workstations and hardware because they get outdated by a few years
>policy is everything has to be scrapped, no hand-me-downs
would even be happy to score an i7 2600k or some extra DDR3 ram

Speak English

that’s because there was no equivalent
W series were pathetically entry-level trash

Talking about socket 1155
>find broken 1155 mobo at work
>decent I/O, decide to take it home with me and fix it
>also got an i5 2400 and two RAM sticks of 8GB DDR3 for FREE as in FREEDOM
>fix that motherfucker
>everything works, but i want more power
>Check gigabyte website for CPU compatibility
>i7 3770k supported if BIOS is upgraded to the latest version
>buy that i7, flash BIOS and put that mofo in
>It doesn't fucking work

GEE, THANKS GIGABYTE

tfw no dumsters to dive

thats cool

a set of Pioneer CS-T5100s, and a 32" television.

>copier

I wonder if that has a HDD in it. Be interesting what documents you can pull off of that if anything.

School I work at. They just throw thousands of dollars into our recycling piles
