Just giving this beat, and any of the others, away at this point. Message me if you want them.

The reason I started producing hip hop was because some friends told me they wanted shit to rap over, but if/when we "record", I end up just using being their pro-bono audio engineer as I properly mix their Panda freestyles.

I've decided me, and my band, are selling our turntables and buying guitars.

Sample, from this: nounss.bandcamp.com/track/school-bus

To be honest, I wanted to build samples from post-punk and shoegaze tracks, but it hasn't been as easy or successful as relying on the classic genre choices. So I've decided to make my own post-punk and shoegaze, and just move the beat production to a more side project.

Not to take up more of your time, but could you check out Birds? My friends think it's too much of a bummer to be a hip hop beat.

Turn down the 'Out' on your drum samples to get rid of as much annoying white noise as possible as well

>Turn down the 'Out' on your drum samples to get rid of as much annoying white noise as possible as well
Thanks, I mostly work in Pro Tools, learning Ableton now though.

Also, really appreciate the feedback. I very rarely can get solid insight from a rapper about my beats, which I think leaves me in a bubble, so this was a huge help.

soundcloud.com/themacheno
>electronica, occasional beats

i'm not trey chops

but you should just do more processing on your drums in general
transient shaping, compression, EQ, distortion
i can elaborate if you want

also layer multiple drum samples together
especially for the snare

No worries, Pro Tools is good though. Industry standard.

Ableton I thought was moreso for the electronic crowd, but I still use FL Studio 10 lol (personal preference)

We all have to start the journey somewhere, so I have no problem sharing my knowledge.. JUST NOT MY SECRETS!

>billinski.bandcamp.com/album/who-are-you

*TREY CHOPS

Oh, well thanks for replying too, it was helpful.

I've been out of practice with processing and just general baseline audio maintenance, plus I have the bad habit of doing none of that shit due to my current /prod/ setup, which isn't very resource friendly. I think I'll return to the books I once studied, and make sure to always make everything sound as good as I can when I can return to my normal set-up.

Yeah, Pro Tools is what I use to record my friends, but I'm kinda starting to fuck with Ableton's capability's of combining MIDI and audio elements as well as it does. Never tried FL Studio, I might give it a shot someday though.

And I'll bookmark that bandcamp link, will check out later.

Really digging rap with backing tracks like that. Keeps it really fresh.

I like what I'm hearing, but I wish there was a bit more layering going on. Also, I sometimes wish you chose different patches for lead bits, but that's just my taste.

This is slightly too experimental and ambient for my personal enjoyment, but some of the tones are really cool and there's a lot of depth to it.

These work quite well as instrumentals too and I'm sure you could do some really interesting rap stuff with them.

I'm not really into dubstep but I like the more IDMish things going on here. It takes slightly too long to get going if you ask me, but overall it's a nice track.

Thanks for the rec!

It has a very fun and chill atmosphere. I'm too much of a beginner on the producing side of things myself to really give you advice regarding that.

That's some really immersive ambient! You get sucked right in. I like a lot of your artwork too.

What is there I like, but if I were you I'd work on the vocal production a little more (I know nothing technical about this so I can't give you any specific tips) and add some layers to the backing track every once in a while in a track to make it more interesting.

This is really intense and atmospheric, but if I were you I'd make the songs a bit shorter; it's a lot to take in at once right now.

This is great, loving the vocals and backing vocals on Dominoes. I know pedals and effects tend to be more of a priority in the type of music you guys are making, but I was just wondering, what guiatars/basses do you tend to rely on most?

What Are You Waiting For, was that all you? I really liked it either way, and I'm intrigued by the list of other genres you've got posted as well.

Yeah, all me. Wrote the main repeating riff and some variations, recorded that, then jammed the rest out around that (stereo amp setup for one of the guitar tracks, clean on one, distorted on the other). I ought to remaster it at some point, since my production skills have improved over the last year or so.

Thanks for the rec brofam!

Cool spooky beat. Good attitude in the rap, but the vocal production needs some work. It clips in places and I don't think that's an intentional effect.

Cool atmosphere and song. However, I do wish there were some more layers and there was a little bit more punch in the background.

Really cool. The only thing I'd change myself was to bring out the "normal song" a little bit more. Occasionally I found the current mix to be sort of jarring, but that's my taste. However, that's only a minor complaint since I thoroughly enjoyed the track.

Some really diverse and interesting stuff. Is that top track some kind of neo-black metal? I like it. Minor note: As a guitarist I'd say that you should improve your vibrato a little bit. You can do a lot with vibrato and right now it sounds very shrill and impersonal.

---FEEDBACK---

love the retro movie/game feel. deffinately cool. production wise, I personally would have played around with stereo effects a bit more to add a bit of interesting energy to it.

mixing needs work, but the actual track is nice

nice ideas, but nothing sounds finished. sound design is sorta boring and mixing needs a lot of work. You should try making these into entire tracks.

Interesting. Actually kinda like it

sounds like the score to a weird indie film. also, a bit muddy.

nice stuff man, really enjoyed it.

iPod commercial music

We actually don't own any pedals and just use built in effects from our amps (Fender Mustang and Fender Princeton Chorus) and for guitars we mainly use a MIM strat or a Epihone custom pro. For bass we use a Fender deluxe P Bass.
Glad you're enjoying our tunes :-)

>NOT abstract watever music

because since you're a grill its not really your fault

>Some really diverse and interesting stuff. Is that top track some kind of neo-black metal? I like it. Minor note: As a guitarist I'd say that you should improve your vibrato a little bit. You can do a lot with vibrato and right now it sounds very shrill and impersonal.

Thanks, it was kind of an attempt at thrash metal as played by a funeral doom band. Dropped A tuning.

The vibrato thing is true, I've noticed it myself. It's something I tend to use a lot more in blues and folk, but for some reason I always forget to in my lead playing on heavier stuff, unlike pinch harmonics, for instance.

Your work is really interesting in that it somehow manages to form a really good wall of sound, completely filling out the whole sound while keeping the drums really up front. Really good work on the EQing and compression there. Great base for vocals.

That's great dude! That's kinda the set-up I'm going for, solo looping and layering. It's really a confidence-booster hearing someone else do it so well.

>just use built in effects from our amps
Never would've guessed, but my roomie does get his favorite tone out of his 20 dollar practice amp. I'll check out those instruments, and definitely keep listening.

Thanks, man.

I don't understand!

I have abstract grill friends

soundcloud.com/signal-gul/cyber-hallucination

oh game music fun
it feel like clean future music

you are good at speed metal i think

i like retro style music

My main tip is to just have drums to play over before you start working your entire song out. Figure out that you want four or five fills at various points so you already know where they're going to be, then play your main riff over that and have the other layers react to your first guitar riff. Solo looping I'm not that good at, due to decent looper pedals being expensive. EQing your various guitar tracks slightly differently and panning them helps a lot in keeping the layers distinguishable from one another, but if you're stuck with mono like with a looper pedal, just switch pickups and use a clean boost or an EQ pedal to achieve the same separation, I'd say. Jamming with yourself is easy as fuck!

Copied to a text file, thanks a bunch.

I'm not planning to use real pedals, especially not a looper, just straight through Guitar Rig for now.

I'm a bit rusty with guitar, and have briefly touched a bass, but I saved up some cash and I plan on probably picking up some Korean made knockoffs that my guitar friend swears by. My friend jams with just a practice amp and a looped beat, and it looks like great practice, so I'm excited to give it a go.

Thanks, I was aiming for intense and somewhat atmospheric sound, but at the same, I do agree that sometimes some parts linger too much, even though I didn't want to cut the bits shorter, because I felt it would be too brief.

Lo-fi depressing hip hop has really grown on me, and this track is a nice example of what I dig.
