C93 - Thunder Perfect Mind
You might like them

Exuma - S/T
Comus - First Utterance

if you liked Exuma:
Dr John - Gris Gris

if you liked First Utterance:
Nico - Desertshore

How about Campfire Songs

Akron/Family - s/t sound kind of similar

try You'll Never Get To Heaven, it's not as electronic as Sweet Trip though.

Did you listen to Feels by Anco yet OP?

You could try Yellow House, not that they're that similar though. I assume you've already looked within AnCo's discography itself? If now, Campfire Songs. And one of Avey's side projects, Pullhair Rubeye, is similar. It's with his ex-wife, and they released it in reverse, but you can get a re-reversed copy pretty easy online.

I'm happy and I'm singing and A 1,2,3,4,5,6 by Jim O'Rourke

grouper

Judee Sill - Judee Sill

Anna Meredith - Varmints

None of these will sound like Sung Tongs.

This is the closest I've ever heard to Sung Tongs.

parquet courts - monastic living

rec me something non zappa related pls

Akron/Family definitely sounds kind of similar

Ariel Pin - Pom Pom

Francois Virot is 10/10, nice to see someone else who appreciates him
Have you heard his new album?

I'd love to hear a good rec

oh shit he has a new album?

...

Yep, check it out, tracks 1, 2, 3, and 6 are all amazing and rival the stuff on Yes or No, they're pretty progressive and he included some electronics in some of the tracks

Talking Heads : Remain in Light

how in the fuck...

thank you for this

Already got that, never really saw them as similar though

He's pretty much the modern day Zappa

Check out DFA Records bands

James Murphy is a co owner and has bands that might be your liking

sweet, thanks man

...

cba to get a picture but Pallbearer-Foundations of Burden

Aoki Takamasa + Tujiko Noriko- 28
Dorine Muraille- Mani (Colder and a bit more abrasive glitch folk)

...

Frontier Ruckus- The Orion Songbook

Anything like this?

Check out E2-E4

...

...

But they're not similar at all

nothing

Either Vision Creation Newsun, or take two hits of acid and listen to Slanted and Enchanted turned up as loud as possible.

The Ascension of Archibald Balloonhead

...

I kinda see what xhe means, but I was after the noisier side not the rhythms

The vocals are reminiscent of mid-era Skinny Puppy

and what i mean by that is that e2 e4 reminds me of a track like surf solar

>This is the closest I've ever heard to Sung Tongs.
Then listen to this:

youtube.com/watch?v=93oGaf2-iW4

The whole album is extremely Sung Tongs-ish. Not even remotely as good imo, but still a fun listen.

...

>xhe
i... is that a typo? please be a typo

ebin

Off-topic, but as someone who has never listened to Animal Collective before, how should I try to get into them? Just work my way chronologically through their discography or go straight to their more acclaimed projects, like Sung Tongs or Merriweather Post Pavilion?

decent non-meme hypergrunge when
I just want to feel like I'm in the universe Lopatin thought of when he made this
what type of stuff do you like fampai, I can rec based off of that

triggered?

I'm actually seriously curious. I don't really care either way.

it's probably just a meme desu

this is the track that got me into them

>inb4 unknown pleasures

animal collective - danse manatee
has there ever been anything similar to meet the light child anywhere else
the only album I can think of with a similar aesthetic to it is gang gang dance - god's money, and even then it's not nearly as good

Sung Tongs sounds nothing like RYM's "freak folk" genre chart

Have you listened to Built to Spill?

Early Talking Heads

Haven't been able to find anything like Danse. People always rec Black Dice from around the same time but that's more just from association/

Yes, Built to Spill is amazing! I love Perfect from now on, Keep it Like a Secret and There's nothing wrong with Love. Their discography is great.

Half-Japanese

thanks for reminding me to listen to black dice, but yeah, they really aren't too similar. if only the more extreme stuff on danse was combined with the type of stuff on hollinndagain and the semi-live nature of campfire songs, I think if danse was done like that and was actually a good album overall it probably would have ended up being my favorite album of all time.

...

I love Scott Pilgrim so much, but god that album artwork is a mess

panabrite? i think you're looking for psychedelic noise

rhys chatham - a large number of guitars

I need that dynamic ambient noise with that almost rock shit mixed in

NO HECKER OR YELLOW SWANS

oo-ray, man with potential and love is a stream are other great ones. i dont like it when its static or has no melody

rec pls

dj shadow
wax tailor
nujabes

for the more hip hop side of it

mum for the indietronica

Does anyone have something similar to Campfire Songs and Young Prayer?

>inb4 Natural Snow Buildings
I want something with a sort of warm vibe but anything is welcome

this isn't bad but doesn't scratch the same theatrical itch as TDH. Thanks though!

...

I am also curious and have also heard NSB

I think Just Another Diamond Day is slightly comparable to Young Prayer

That makes sense because Vashti was a huge influence for AnCo during their acoustic days and I really like her stuff. I was hoping for something a little bit spacier though

Yeah, I've wanted something more sparse and free form like CS, but I haven't found anything yet

The best thing I've found so far is this live version of Young Prayer

youtube.com/watch?v=EOHZGglVtSI

There's also some good sparse acoustic stuff on Animal Crackbox if you haven't heard that

Earlier today someone recommended Jungle Heart. I was hoping to find some other bands because I feel kind of guilty on listening to one band

I usually dont like ambient very much but this album blew me away

Man, what the cuk thats my favourite album

holy fuck this is so good thank you for sharing

Something with a dreamy, ethereal atmosphere similar to this album?

Preferably something not associated with Phil

I think it was me who recommended that, and still, all the tracklistings I've seen call it Jungle Heat. I'm not convinced that the guy who corrected me was right.

Do you listen do Robbie Basho or the Incredible String Band? They're both good, but still, they don't have the same space, sparse feel as CS

I would suggest Jane - Berserker. It's a Panda Bear side project that is perfectly warm ambient techno with Panda vocalizations.

Maybe pick related? I love Clear Moon

I've tried ISB before but never really done a whole album. That was more by way of Nick Drake. Any recc's on where to start? Never heard of Robbie Basho. What kind of stuff does he do?

Kayo Dot deserve much more attention because of Hubardo. Should've been the next Sunbather/TMS

Hell yeah dude I love panda bear but never even knew this existed. Will for sure check this out.

For ISB I'd start with 5000 Spirits or the Layers of an Onion. Robbie Basho was an American Primitive Guitarist. His music was a lot denser than acoustic AnCo, though. If you want to start wit him, try The Falconer's Arm
