I needed an accordion for a live set for my shitty folk guitar/oboe duo and we clearly set out what needed to be played- notation, playing it on oboe, I even dicked around and got a rough version on the accordion even though I'd never touched one before, and every time the two accordionists we'd procured said, 'so like this?' and played something COMPLETELY wrong, even though they could shred and sound impressive on their own.
It's like the accordion is such an antisocial instrument because it sounds like a cat being raped as you learn, so you never develop any ability to play as part of a group. One of the most essential parts of the brain just is not there.

For the most part accordion is seen as a folk instrument only, and most of the time no one takes it too seriously, and this goes for the players too.
The more I know and learn about my instrument, the more I don't like accordionists

Hussong for English Suites
Motion Trio did a classical album with Chopin, Brahms, etc
and most players get to know Bach at conservatory, so there's plenty of records on him

This was the song that convinced me to buy an accordion an teach myself. 1 1/2 years later I can competently play 20+ songs! I play it every day. Love it.
Not Op but I play Shenandoah which started as a shanty. Not what you'd think of when you think shanties though.
most instruments that are hard to play sound like a raped cat when you learn. Violin. Oboe, french horn. etc. Its still a great instrument.
There seems to be a lot of anti accordion sentiment ITT. not really surprising considering the diet of popular music that permeates Sup Forums. Uneducated people tend to shit on things because other people told them to. hating on accordions is one of those things. If you had ever heard an accordion in the flesh played by a great player, you'd know how wrong you are.
These soldiers would fucking punch your lights out in WW2 if you trash talked accordion like you do. Respect this traditional instrument and the music played on it.

My dad has some accordions and I brought one out once when my friends were over at my house jamming on their guitars. I don't know the second thing about playing them but playing a few keys slowly and evocatively seemed to really impress them.
