Album Reviews

Which site has better reviews? Pitchfork or RateYourMusic/Sonemic?

Post examples.

RYM is definitely better than p4k

Can't really compare them since Pitchfork is a company and RYM is just a bunch of amateur neckbeards like us voicing their opinion on music. (doesn't mean we should follow Pitchfork tho)

>Reading reviews

I think RYM has better taste in general, and I'll trust hundreds of regular music listeners over one pretentious Pitchfork writer.

But your opinions should never be influenced by other opinions.

I'd rather a site like RYM where I can read reviews from many different perspectives and tastes. I don't typically read reviews anyway.

I like that RYM is open to every point of view, even those who review music I find politically odious.

No other site will have users into both Hip-Hop and RAC.

RYM as a small fraction of their reviews aren't garbage.

> p4k gave a 10 to a kanye album

they're just dickriding flavour-of-the-month stuff with no real courageous stances.

+ they always make whole articles from some stupid shitheads tweets and that pisses me off real bad

yes, kanye is certainly flavour of the month stuff

I know right ?

In terms of writing p4k is certainly better, despite all the reviews that would make that hard to believe had one not read the one on RYM. Don't care about score.

I really hate how RYM is completely biased towards some genres. Almost all review for electronic music are automatically bad just because it's electronic.

are pro-RAC people even allowed to have their reviews published? the nazi stuff has a super heavy-handed warning above it (especially the part where it says "we do not agree with these beliefs) and they wouldn't be allowed to post anything beyond center-right on the forums or shoutboxes. they even deleted the politics forum and outright banned any political discussions on the forums

there are so many dance classics with a sub-3.00 average and like 20 ratings, or better yet, aren't even added in the site yet

Both are filled with shit opinions, but RYM has some funny reviews at least.

Turkey_Beard, Horse_Mouth and asadv (pictured) still have their reviews up.

At one time, a really funny right-winger IronPriest666 had reviews, but because his politics didn't jive with the mods, they deleted his reviews and lists.

rym is better because it has more reviews, pitchfork will never review some of the things i listen to but there are plenty of RYM reviews

p4k's writer roster consists of emotionally dead millennials who feign an interest in trap and black culture to distract from the fact that they are all horribly non descript individuals.

I think it's more about finding new music that appeals to your tastes.

>IronPriest666
lol

these

His username was shit, but rest assured, he was a funny user.

He had some of the funniest lists. One of my personal favorites was "Music Loved by Trailer Trash"

>p4k's writer roster consists of emotionally dead millennials who feign an interest in trap and black culture to distract from the fact that they are all horribly non descript individuals
That, and they're completely vanilla in taste.

> projecting this hard
Second part in completely true tho.

>muh projection

NOBODY CALLS IT SONEMIC

Not yet, at least.

It's not projecting. Just follow some Noisey and p4k writers on Twitter and you'll see. Future and Beyoncé memes a plenty

RYM by a landslide, Pitchfork is such a joke. Most albums aren't reviewed unless they're big names, their writers are pretentious, and you're getting a review from just one person who represents a company after profits which must maintain its base of readers.

Serious question. Why would you ever listen to an album that you rate "7/10" when you could be listening to a 10/10? Is it because at that moment it's better than anything else, because you're in the MOOD for it? personally, I'm either into something or I'm not. I would never listen to something that I thought was just ok. Ratings are meaningless

TMT

I usually agree with the popmatters reviews.

A 7 shouldn't be just "ok".

because we aren't autistic

RYM has so many advantages over Pitchfork, even if you ignore Pitchfork's pleb taste. If the RYM community gives a bad average rating to Kendrick or Beyonce's new release, you can't
a) Have them fired, because there are no bosses or leaders other than a few users respected for knowledge or good content
b) Cut their funding, because they're sponsored by their user base
c) Accuse them of being racist/sexist, because there's so many of them and you rarely know the race or gender of reviewers
Meanwhile, P4k has to give tons of hyped artists like Grimes or Mac DeMarco good reviews regardless of quality, because if they don't they'll lose readers.

The only problems with RYM is that its community loves dadrock and Scaruffi-core.

Organizing intangible things into a 1-10 number scale to help you digest them is literally the most autistic thing
