What kind of system do you have it mind? Do you think it's better if the rating system was completely remove?
Practice reviewing, write one down once you're good at it, record yourself reading the review, post the vid on Sup Forums, twitter, facebook, etc. Be controversial, so you'll stand out and you'll become popular.
And add those funny random glitches throughout your videos.
if you are serious and driven you will figure it out. just think, why do you want to do this? why is your opinion worth listening to? if you can answer these then you are on your way
>What kind of system do you have it mind?
no I never use ratings nor do I have any interest in being a "critic"
>Do you think it's better if the rating system was completely remove?
absolutely not but anythings possible
*none, I never use
>become a cantaloupe
>yell
\but for real im in the same position as you man. i just started writing a music blog so maybe you could start with something like that? i have 0 followers but its just fun to write
HAH! I have actually tricked all of you!!! I have already started by own music critique website with 2 authors writing for me! I made this thread to get some constructive thoughts on being a music critic and the rating system, cause I know I'll just get ridiculed if I said I have my own website in the beginning.
Thanks alot!
www.soundovermind.com
Wi bin trickd gais
FUCK your website and fuck you motherfucker
Damn right! This is next level marketing!
I like the reviews, nice writing
Gonna keep an eye on this site for sure
>www.soundovermind.com
I'm sure my friends over at Sup Forums will know what to do with this.
Thank you so much for that comment!
Sound Over Mind aims at shining light on indie artists and helping listeners to discover new music!
You're welcome! My only real complaint is that the reviews aren't daily, but that's absolutely understandable
why u wanna destroy something that helps everyone who love music?
The website runs no ads and there isn't any hidden agenda but to profess the love for music!
Because Sup Forums
The reviews are daily now, We did miss one yesterday because I was busy but I'll be covering an album by Red Giant who released their EP "Infinity" today.
We usually release it daily at 10am EST to match with the commute time of most Americans.
...
Sweet! In that case I take back my complaint
Wouldn't you like to be better?
Just so u guys know, I am monitoring my website in real time to see the response.
Maybe you might want to get DDoS protection
...
...
Sup Forums sure delivered
Personnel army
That's the risk I have to take to archive my dreams, Anthony also face the same hardship in the beggning. I am doing this for the love of music!
Well then, keep it up
Thank you for the kind words!
You're welcome!
>Starts off with a history of the band
boring writing my friend. people reading your site know who DG are
Well, in DGs case, yeah Sup Forums knows who they are, but there are also plenty of artists who might be obscure, and then it's useful to know their history, but you can also skip the history part if you want to
Thank you Jeff Magnum for your constructive criticism. I tell my writers to assume that the reader does not know anything about the band. We have alot of non-mu readers on our site. S we need to make sure to properly introduce them to every artist so they can discover music properly.
Thanks!
Just saying, be aware of your audience. Also why does your site automatically scroll me to the top whenever I scroll down? Is it a mac bug?
Thank you everyone for checking out my website.
This is the most viewers we had at the same time.
We hope to serve both growing artists and music lovers as well.
Yes, our audience are kings to us! We cater for them, this is why we need constructive criticism for our website to improve.
That must be a Mac bug though as you're the only one who have experience such a bug.
>Radiohead (named after the Talking Heads track) are a band from Oxfordshire, England who formed in 1985. In 1992 they released the single Creep, which propelled them from their humble position of playing local venues to one of the most prominent alternative rock bands in the world. They then went on to release the album Pablo Honey....
>900 words later
>So now we get to their latest project, A Moon Shaped Pool.
I'll never visit again because you gave Lemonade a 9, but it's a nice looking design anyway so good job on that
Haha funny post, but I get your point.
We have criteria when we introduce a band:
1)Genres
2)Location
3)Band members composition
If any bands like Radiohead who are powerhouses then we just briefly introduce their history but won't go into a 900 words essay, we have wikipedia for that.
Haha, I don't blame you I told my writers to be stingy about giving scores but I also give them the freedom to express their opinion. My only requirement is that you need to be honest and have to justify the score you give.
How can I become a writer for you?
>shining light on indie artists
>the site is just copy-pasting of Pitchfork's Best New Music column
lol it was only matter of time before one of your ask that question, my first writer is actually from Sup Forums and he wrote the Death grips piece
Currently i am not that keen on taking in anymore writers because I already have a handful of them and am afraid I may lose control if I can't manage them all.
But you can still send your writing sample and resume to [email protected] I'll see if I can fit your somewhere in our team.
I know where you are coming from, but my writers were very eager to cover all of the great releases this week since Lemonade.
That is why i just told them that they can choose to review an album from a list otherwise they just keep reviewing albums they love.
We are new but we strive to improve ourselves to give the best!
Just busting balls matey, but an introduction like that can come across as stiff and formulaic. If you read the Pitchfork review (which isn't that great), they begin with a seemingly irrelevant point in order to grab your attention and make you want to read on, then they go on to tie that point to Death Grips.
I'm getting that same issue on android
If you wanna improve you should stop referring to writers on your site as your property and give them some degree of trust and autonomy.
I agree, introductions that describe the history of the band instantly put me off the review and make me write off the site as amateur.
does he unironically wear his pants like that?
DDDDDROPPED
>résumé
IT'S A FUCKING BLOG.
Are you paying these people?
Those are actually jeggings
Yeah, I agree with you. That is why we keep reviewing more albums to improve our writing skills and deliver the most interesting review. I totally get what you mean when you say tying a subject to something irrelevant.
We just did a huge upgrade to our system to support all mobile platforms, I am using Android on my S6 and do not see this bug. Can you tell me which part of the website you are experiencing this problem?
>the offices of soundovermind.com
If I scroll to the bottom of the main page and begin reading, it jumps up to the slides how of album covers when a new album is loaded
this could very well be. The site is registered out of Malaysia.
>Can you tell me which part of the website you are experiencing this problem?
On the front page if I scroll all the way down and leave it there for a couple seconds, it scrolls back to the middle of the page automatically
I do not consider them as properties, we are a collective mind of music lovers and writers. I always ask them for their opinions and have system to allow them to share their thoughts not only in music writing but improving the site.
I always tell them that we are a team but truthfully most of them just wanna write about music and nothing else.
Imagine the blaring motivational speech booming through the office
>YOU ARE MY WRITERS
>YOU ARE MY PROPERTY
>THE ARTIST'S HISTORY ALWAYS COMES FIRST
>ONLY REVIEW ALBUMS FROM THE LIST
>AUTONOMOUS AGENTS WILL BE EXECUTED
>Pizzicato strings build
soundovermind.com
I think it's just staccato.
Holy kek
Thanks for the feedback I see what you mean, I'll try to fix this problem if possible. I am just a one man army here.
It's cool, Max. No worries
I actually wish that was my office, at least I'll making more money than everybody.
I am just a college student who's about to finish his degree in marketing management.
Lol, I am like the nicest boss you can have. I even ask them how they feel after their first week. :D
