Now that the dust has settled, let's talk about this particular record. What do you think of it? Putting his influence aside:
>Do you think it still holds up to this day?
>Do you see yourself forced to like classics? >When you're going for a rate, do you consider its historical value or mere enjoyment?
For me, it's a solid 7
Now that the dust has settled, let's talk about this particular record. What do you think of it...
My brother gave me this for my birthday when I was 12 or something hoping to make my music taste the same as his.
>For me, it's a solid 7
I think that's fair.
>hoping to make my music taste the same as his.
Did it work?
What about Tago Mago?
I wonder who could be behind this post...
Putting how influential it is aside, it's an average record and I currently have it as a 2.5/5 but I can see myself liking it more if i'm really in the mood for that kind of rock.
Could somebody please explain to me what conceptual link "Frownland" could possibly have with "Veteran's Day Poppy"? Is there anybody who honestly believes this isn't just a collection of re-recorded B-sides, placed in alphabetical order with a hipster-friendly cover and a nonsensical name? That Captain Beefheart's addled brains didn't simply run out of creativity around 2 years ago, and after the utter flop of Safe as Milk they've now given up writing truly new music altogether?
>Did it work?
I like several bands he likes and I really liked the band he was in, but overall his taste comes off as a bit indiecore to me.
After Heroin the album kinda tanks but the first half is amazing. 7 or 8 is perfect.
European Son and I'll Be Your Mirror are goat, dude
European Son has a couple good parts but nah
How can anyone think it's not shit?
with or without historical context, the absolute best rock album i've ever heard. i can listen to it at any time, any place, and get something out of it. every single song is branded into the flesh of my soul permanently. i will never again find something that i love enough to listen to literally 100s of times, from the summer after middle school when i was first getting into music to now as i have one semester left of college.
It's ok. Sunday Morning is the only track I really like.
I loved it so much when i was a teenager and developing a taste. But these days I just cannot stand Nico's voice, she's a genuinely terrible singer
I like white light/white heat better but it's my second fav VU album, 9/10
she has that german accent, not everyone is gonna like it, I liked it personally
forgot to add that i think pic related is a lot better record, just more innovative and exciting overall
right, genuinely terrible singer is probablyh a huge exaggeration
I don't really like the rock'n'roll leaning songs.
Sunday Morning, Venus In Furs, Heroin, Black Angel Death Song are all super cool.
Waiting for the man is alright.
better record coming through, Lady Godiva is god-tier
>more innovative
LOL LOUD LOL EXCESSIVE SPOKEN WORD INTERLUDE
half of it sounds as fresh now as it did then. the other half sounds like a product of its time.
for me, I enjoyed it, but not because of any historical value. It's purely based on personal enjoyment. 8/10
I think it's a pretty good album, undeniable charm, good honest performances, some darkness some beauty. 1969 self-titled is probably my favorite album of theirs, even though it's not as 'forward thinking' it's still quiet good soft rock and pop.
As far as it's influence? Well, there were plenty of avant-garde groups in the 60s, and there were plenty of pop groups too, The Velvet Underground just happened to combine the two very effectively and made an impact on the future musicians that bought the albums.
Groups like Sonic Youth to Broken Social Scene may not have been able to make the music they made had it not been for The Velvet Underground and Nico. I think it's just kind of indisputable how big of an influence the album is. Sure, there aren't a massive amount of bands that cite them as an influence, but how many modern bands still cite The Beatles as an influence? It's just sort of an implied thing.
10/10
its great. Solid 9/10
couple of things though:
>what a clon
>why is Black angels death song not after Heroin?
>why is european son so awful
>tfw no nico gf
>tfw no nazi heroin junkie to be your mirror
