i realized that ive only heard and enjoyed three releases this year. fuck. i sorta liked painting with, but it disappointed me, not impressed me.

What's good this year that i might not know about

sleep cycle
the colour in anything
blackstar
a moon shaped pool
barbara barbara, we face a shining future

OP here - check the five in my list, here's a short description of each so you can pick what you fancy:

>Blackstar - art rock / experimental / jazz fusion
David Bowie's swan song, the lyricism in songs like Lazarus, Dollar Days and I Can't Give Everything Away is heartbreaking as he comes to terms with his death. The other songs like Blackstar, 'Tis a Pity She Was a Whore, Girl Loves Me and Sue are less emotional but just as strong instrumentally. I may sound like I'm overreacting but this is genuinely my favourite album of all time

>The Great Cold - post / black / atmospheric metal
Small German group's debut; some of the most beautiful harmonies I've ever heard in a chord progression - if nothing else check out the tracks OREAD and AURAI

>Terminal Redux - progressive / thrash metal
I'm not usually into thrash, but this is probably the best thrash metal album I've ever heard

>Brute Force - breakcore / djent
It's a little bit of a novelty, but djent mixed with techno is a pretty damn good combination - the rhythms are insanely mindbending and the range of balance in instrumentation between metal and electronic keeps the album pretty fresh. A personal favourite workout album

>The Impossible Kip - hip-hop
Not much into hip-hop, but the imagery and symbolism from Aesop is brilliant with some pretty damn good flow. Some tracks are a little absurd - baseball coaches killing vermin, adopting a kitten etc., but the lyricism makes it pretty damn enjoyable regardless of how silly it is

jazz
Henri Texier - Sky dancers
Shauli Einav - Beam me up
Mauro Gagano - Suite for battling Siki
Joëlle Léandre - Can you hear me ?
Michael Wollny - Nachtfahrten / Klangspuren

psych
Vibravoid - Live in Finkenbach
The cosmic dead - Rainbowhead
Bardo pond - Acid Guru Pond
The spacelords - Liquid Sun
Causa sui - Return to sky

funk
Lord funk - Global warming
First touch - Knockout
Sasac - Future disc
Magic source - Earthrising
James Brown revue - Live at the Apollo vol. IV

The new Underworld album is pretty damn good - Nylon Strung is definitely up there as one of my favourite tracks of the year, but I find that Motorhome and Uva Nova are too forgettable to make the album GOAT tier

Roly Porter - Third Law
David Bowie - Black Star
Chance - Coloring Book
The Range - Potential

No 5th atm

Baaba Maal The Traveller

David Vassalotti Broken Rope

James Girl at the End of the World

Aidan Knight Each Other

MONEY Suicide Songs

>A Meme Shaped Poo
>Blackstar
>Varahtejila
>Feelin Kinda Free
>Zvi II : Death Stops Us All

Reminder that Coloring Book is better than Radiohead.

I like how this is the perfect combination of cringe and decent shit, leaning more to cringe

1.Blackstar
2.Moon Shaped Pool
3.Bottomless Pit
4.Malibu
5.The Life of Pablo

I'm big on Aesop and Bowie, yee. It's really strange to me that you consider Blackstar your GOAT.
I would never feel confident calling a release thats been out for less than 2 or 3 years my favorite.

>dream theater
'kek'

sia was my aoty 2014 so I will admit there's some possible bias but so far its been holding up.

I just heard the new meghan trainor album yesterday and really liked it so this could get a whole lot worse before it gets any better.
