Is it a fair assessment to say that insecurity is the life-blood of the grime scene? I've listened to Chip, Skepta, Stormzy, JME, Kano and some others I can't remember. All they rap about is their ostensible greatness, their superiority of lyricism (the irony), their more credible street status, their more legitimate claims to their indifference to material wealth.
For those of you who know about grime - who's making music about bigger ideas?? So far my my findings are that the grime scene is a little embarrassing and cringeworthy.
so the same tropes as hip hop, the same things it was founded on? shocking

Stormzy is bad for it, but I absolutely hate references to hashtags and Instagram in songs.
It may show you are street status now but it means the song will age like milk.
I just don't get it.

This. I only listen to music with deep themes and messasages.
I reccomend you listen to some patrician music like Kendrick Lamar and Led Zepelin.
Most rappers only rap about money and drugs and to be honest it leaves me wondering where the real music went.

this. I wish rap was more about the struggle and things that are really in the real world, the sort of stuff eminem raps about. OP me and you are similar, it's a shame we have too good taste.
